This was my beer for dinner at Botegga's restaurant in Birmingham. On draft, this beer had a dark honey-orange hue and had a potent and promising smell. The head was probably taken off by the waiter as it was barely contained in my glass when it was brought out to me.

This beer is a beer Alabamians can be proud of. Its flavor is very well balanced and even though it has a substantial feel and "weight" (?) to it, this IPA is not overpowering. The finish is particularly nice for an IPA; easily a beer you can enjoy all night.

This will be enjoyed again and may easily serve as a "base" IPA for future tastings.

Came to the table in a standard pint a slight hazed deep burnt orange with a nice looking one finger creamy/frothy head that nver really leaves,I really liked the creamy texture of the head.Aromas were of herbal and grassy hops along with somewhat sweet bready malts, not a big citric resiny bomb.Flavors are alot like the nose with grassy and leafy hops giving off their flavor profile but not in your face,a camel maltiness hits quite hard as well. Not a big hopped up IPA but there is nice herbal hop notes.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #52 (May 2011):

Hazed-over dirty peach color; some sticky head on the glass. Big piney and citric hop nose, grapefruit sting and orange blossoms with a dried grass, tannin-like maltiness. Very smooth, stodgy medium body. Lots of pale biscuit or cracker-like malt flavors build a decent base for the quite prominent hop character to bounce off of. Hop resin flavor pushes past the bitterness. Mild warmth from the alcohol; dried stone fruit and apple meat. Hop flavor goes a bit herbal but still holds on to a citric rind taste. Yeast and graininess show up again in the semidry finish. A worthy stab at the style, and a crowded style it is. As the benchmark is set high, this one reaches it with some stretching.

One of the best IPA's out there. It doesn't leave you wanting for much other than a little more aroma and a little more More full body feel. Soothing crisp from one of the best breweries.

A-nice color, light orange but not thick/syrupy orange like high IBU (nappa smith)

S-Smells great however not an intense aroma like some IPA

Taste-Extraordinary and dependable. Balanced, won't sear your tastebuds and somewhat refreshing.

Mouthfeel-Medium. Not thick but a good foam up front

Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this can.

The beer pours an orange color with a white head. The aroma is strong and is made up of bready malt with some orange citrus notes. The flavor is more of the same. I get a lot of bitter oranges with some grass and pine notes mixed in. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Had this beer while traveling through Alabama. Who would've thought it, this is an oustanding beer. I was really impressed with the balance on this beer. Poured a slightly opaque orange to amber. Willamette hops really shine in this beer. Also really like the retro feel of the can. Can't wait to try other Good People offerings in the future.

Nice, hoppy IPA. Poured a beautiful dark gold in the pint glass with a two-finger, fluffy white head. Great, spicy, earthy hop aroma from the start. Taste was a delicious assault on the bitter tastebuds, with piney, citrusy notes. Really hoppy brew, but well balanced with the malt backbone. I like this beer and have had it several times. Always a good IPA!

Orange/copper color, nice two-finger head with good retention and lacing. Aroma was piney up front, with some nice citrus and pineapple notes, with a sweet malt smell in the background. The flavor was similar to the smell, with the pineapple most prominent. Mouthfeel was medium bodied and very smooth, easy to drink a lot of these. Overall, nice beer from a good up and coming brewery, can't wait to try their Snake Handler DIPA>

(Served in a tulip glass)

A- This beer pours a hazy orange body with a lumpy butter cream heat that last and sticks to the glass. There is a big carbonation of bubbles that pop off the bottom and push to the surface.

S- The green slightly dank citrus hops are juicy with a woody character coming through as it opens. There are some caramel malt smells coming through as the beer opens in the finish.

T- The big green citrus orange hops have a gentle sweetness to it with the hops grown all the way to the finish. There is a nice pungency hop flavor that lingers with just a bit of bitterness, and some biscuit malt hints come through in the after taste aswell. As the beer warms there is a fresh pale malt flavor with some chalk notes under the hops.

M- This beer has a medium-full mouthfeel with a tight fizz and no alcohol heat.

O- This is a big full bodied IPA that has nice depth and some good malt support pushing through as the beer opens. It is very drinkable and thanks to coldchill for sending this to me.

The can pours out a dirty orange but bright sort of brew, which settles with opacity in the glass. It raises up a bubbly off-white head that doesn't quite make it to one finger but holds up and drops thin patching.
The nose is quite aromatic with hops, big and biting with pine resin and sharp grapefruit, with pithy orange rind note, spicy herb, and grass. The balance from the malts is very dry; it would be a little more well-rounded with a hint more sweetness, but it works pretty well and shows off the hops.
There is a certain sweetness from yeast and malt that shows in the flavor, mostly via some red apple and a little tropical fruit-like note. The spicy herb is there, with lots of citrus and resinous pine as the nose displays. Malts show more biscuit and malt here to even things out.
This beer is semi-dry in the feel from front to back. It's crisp and has some smoothness until the grains build up in the back of the throat. There's a note to it that's biting, and it's not crispness. Something just goes a little too sharp. It's pretty good overall, though, and a good beer in a tough style these days.

12 ounce can poured into a snifter.

A- Cloudy orange/amber liquid. Huge frothy pale white head. Extensive lacing. 4.5

S- Smells melony, of pineapple, and a bit of catpiss. Nice but for the catpiss. 4

T- Nose is better, but this taste ain't bad. Touches of pineapple, grapefruit and orange match with biscuity malt. There's a light caramel malt flavor too. 3.75

M- Medium-bodied, zesty, moderately bitter and also has a pronounced malt toastiness. Doesn't drink quite as smooth as desired due to some yeastiness and carbonation, but it's still good to drink. 3.5

A nice brew. I get down.

Review from notes.

A: Pours a hazy orange with a very large foamy head, tan in color. Great retention with the foam dissolving very slowly, but not as much lacing as I was expecting based on the head formation.

S: Tons of orange and orange peel right away. A little bit of pine and some heavy caramelized malt.

T: More orange, but not as much as the aroma. A little bit of grapefruit and some pine, but they are cut by a bunch of caramelized malt which brings with it a lot of sweetness.

M: Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation. Slightly dry finish.

O: Overall, it was ok. If the beer had tasted like aroma I would have been a bit happier, but not a bad showing. The flavor profile was a bit malty imo.

By far my favorite IPA so far. Pair it with anything or pair it with nothing. Always good! It has a bittersweet smell and a very bitter taste. You can really taste the hops! Whatever they do to make this beer, its working! The sweet forward flavor and the biiter bite of an aftertaste are great!

Appearance - Poured into a snifter to reveal a hazy, golden brew with an off-white 2 finger head sitting atop. Fair retention, giving way to a thin, broken layer of surface suds. Lacing clings to the sides in rings and chunks, and exhibits strong stick.

Smell - Distinct aroma that hits on pineapple juice, floral and citrus hop notes and a caramel malt base.

Taste - More reserved in the flavor than what's found on the nose. Not much in the way of bitterness, instead opting for slightly sweet, juicy notes of orange and pineapple. Light caramel malt body. Finish is much the same.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with moderate, slightly tingly carbonation. Smooth, easy drinking brew. Semi-dry finish.

Overall - Solid IPA. Nice flavor profile, but seems to lack that extra umph to take it that next level. Safe might be a good description. I could definitely stand to drink this again, but I wouldn't trade for it.

12 oz can poured into snifter canned on 6/18

A: dark ruby and amber color light inch or so soapy bubbly head the drops down to just a residue

S: resiny and floral with a good bit of maltiness to it

T: just a fleeting hint of grapefruit and then floral and very malty

M: medium to lighter side a little bit of residual bitterness around the edges of the tongue

O: Too malty, they need to dial up the hops and down the malt, I thought I had this on tap once and it was very fruity I'm not getting much of that now. More of the floral hops shine through.

I am trying the IPA after trying the Brown Ale...so I dont know if the taste is being affected at all...nevertheless....The appearance is great....from a can...no less. The clear nice copper color with frothy white head that is lacing quite nice. The smell good spice and apricot citrus. The taste is bitter from teh citrus grapefruit/apricot tones. There is some malt present but it is not balancing all that well. The mouthfeel is affected byut the bad balance and I would not receommend this. Brown is better than IPA.

Solid canned IPA from Good People. Herbal pine and grapefruit aroma. Smooth citrus fruity bitterness that turns a little earthy in the finish. It's clean and drinkable for the strength. I'd have another.

decent ipa from the good folks at gp. pours an amber color with a light, white head. some lacine evident on the sides of my pint. nose is lacking; the beer was super cold, whichich probably is inhibiting aromas. a little mango, a touch of breadiness is all. on tbe palate i taste more tropical fruit, something earthy - almost funky like wqshed rind, alpine cheese, and a pleasinf dry finish. medium mouthfeel with lingering bitter qualities. id drink again, and i appreciate the balance on this beer with a 6% abv.

notes from 12/29/2011

4/5 Pours out a nice dark orange with a great white, two-finger head with great retention.

2/5 Smell is really malty upfront. Way more malt in the nose than hops yet the malt isn't very sweet - just a little. In the back there is a little piny hops but its hard to find.

2.5/5 Taste is also very malty upfront and definately sweet caramel. However the sweetness is offset pretty well with some pine from the hops. Basically no citrus, lot's of sweet malt, and quite a bit of piny bitterness which balances to some degree. Not a great beer but not too bad either.

3.5/4 Mouthfeel is medium and nice for the style.

Alabama beer on a hot summer day. Love it. My first offering from Good People, really excited about this one. No bottled on or freshness date can be found.

A - Poured from a can into a pint glass. Pretty cloudy amber color, darker than expected. A careful pour still yields a three finger white head that takes forever to dissipate. Leaves little patches of lacing as I drink.

S - A nice hoppy aroma with a sweet malt compliment. Citrus, piney resin hops are the star. I like the aroma, I just wish it were a little more potent.

T - Similar to the nose. Initially this IPA has a nice malt sweetness with just a little hop bite. Then towards the end, you really get slammed with hop bitterness. Citrus and grapefruit hop flavors are left on the tongue.

M - Mouthfeel is right where it should be. Medium creaminess with lively carbonation.

O - Overall, this is a solid IPA. Doesn't compete with the Union Jacks and Stone IPAs of the world but I'll seek it out again because it's from Alabama. Support your local brewery!

No freshness date, poured into a pint

A- pours a clear golden-orange color with a small foamy and creamy white head that retains nicely

S- nice mix of citrusy orange peel and piney hops with some leafy and minty aromas. Sweet candy-like malt aroma with some bready notes to close it out

T- citrusy hops follow the aroma with flavors of orange peel and grapefruit juice, leafy and grassy notes, candy-like sweetness with some sweet toasted bread malt. The finish gives some piney notes with a nice bitter linger

M- medium body with medium prickly carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and finish

O- very good IPA that showcases some nice citrusy notes, well balanced malt allows the hops to shine

The copper coloring is light almost to an apricot and the appearance is cloudy and almost murky. The head rose in a billowing layer of marangue like foam that left a thick sticky lacing.

The citrus aromas are sweet, thick and pulpy. Tons of grapefruit and lemon can be found with a natural sour and bitterness.

The flavor is sweet with lemon juice and grapefruit pith. The sour flavors are held at bay by a caramel malt sweetness and a tea leaf character to the barley. This IPA blends so well but then showcases a phenomenal citrus hop character.

The feel is thick, lightly astringent and has moderate carbonation.

For a non-Imperial IPA this has great character, great variety and just flat tastes good.
