A limited, seasonal offering for the fall. A weizen nose with grainy, clove, and spicy flavors dominating the fruitiness experienced in other familiar weizens.

Not a style I have had any of before, so I can't say how this matches up to other Roggenbiers.

This beer is all about subtlety: the smell, the taste, the mouthfeel: it's all subtle and delicate. In the hands of a less experienced brewmaster this could very easily have been "bland" instead of "subtle", but the brewmaster's skill brings this out to be a very easy to drink beer.

Smell is lightly spiced, with hints of cloves, pumpkin pie spices, and bananas.

Taste is delicate with hints of caramel, warm brown sugar, bananas.

Appearance is similar to a Dunkel, misty brown.

Mouthfeel is smooth with light carbonation "prickles" on the tongue.

A very easy to drink beer, try it with fish or on its own :)

A- Pours a dark amber with a one and a half finger head.
S- Smell is somewhat spicy, somewhat smokey. Malty and a bit sour.
T- Same as aroma. Starts malty and a hint spicy, becomes a bit sour in middle. Rye is definitely noticable here. Some fruity flavors, particularly bananas. Imagine a somewhat sour rye dunkel. Fits description of style well.
M- Prickly carbonation and a bit of slickness that didn't seem to fit right.
D- All in all an interesting beer that fits the style well.

m - clean and slick.
d - not very familiar with this style but i enjoyed it very much.

My first roggenbier. I've actually never before seen a roggenbier for sale, anywhere -- even when traveling. And a quick check in BA's database confirms it's an exceedingly rare style in the U.S. So i don't have anything to compare this to.

A roggenbier is fermented with traditional hefeweizen yeast, but it features a large percentage of rye in the grain bill in place of wheat.

This one's fairly dark copper in color, making it dunkelweizen-ish. Smell is hints of banana and clove. Taste follows through, with just a faint hint of tartness. I was a little disappointed i couldn't detect more of the rye. I think it would be very enlightening to sample this side by side with a dunkelweizen for comparing and contrasting.

Very drinkable. Light and refreshing from my perspective. I had a lot of this last night at Barktoberfest.
