Notes/Commercial Description:
Big coffee flavors dominate early only to be wiped out by an enormous about of Willamette hop flavors. One of GPBC’s most requested beers. Complex and full of flavor yet amazingly sessionable. Brewed with coffee from Primavera Coffee Roasters here in Birmingham, AL.

Growler purchased from Gus's in Auburn, AL.

Pours black with a one-finger tan head. THe head dissipates into a wispy layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of smooth coffee and roasted malts. As it warms hints of dark chocolate waft out.

Tastes similar to how it smells, though not as deep. Roasted malt flavors up front are joined quickly by coffee flavors and a hint of dark chocolate. These flavors carry through to a mildly bitter ending that leaves a bit of coffee lingering on the palate.

Mouthfeel is alright. It has a good thickness although I was hoping for a bit more silkiness due to the oatmeal.

Drinkability is good. I finished the growler with the help of a few friends and could easily do the same with another.

Overall this was a very solid coffee stout and I'm intrigued by Good People's other offerings. Worth a shot.

I Had this beer on tap at the Good People brewpub and was impressed (admittedly, I had low expectations). It wasn't life changing, but dependable enough for me to buy a six pack the next day. Unfortunately, the bottled version is much too carbonated and somewhat overhopped. The Williamette hops are more apparent than the coffee by a wide margin, and the mouthfeel is almost shockingly rough for an oatmeal stout, generally prized, of course, for a soft yet robust chewiness. This beer is certainly off the mark for its style, and sadly fails carve out a satisfying niche of its own. Perhaps worth a try if you place a great value on trying new things. It is not a complete failure, but neither is it a worthy successor to its esteemed predecessors (FBS, Sam Smith Oatmeal Stout).

Visited J. Clyde's in Birmingham and had a chance to try Good People's brew. Took the chance to try the coffee stout that was on tap. The beer poured very dark/opaque, rich with a creamy head & decent carbonation. The scent was strong coffee/espresso aroma with a nice smack of hops. The taste had even more coffee that was fairly well balanced with sweet malt. The mouthfeel was good, decent body to this beer. Probably could have two if it were snowing outside...but on hot days...I would stay away.

A - Pours with a dark coffee color with a dark brown color and a pale white head that doesn't last long

S - Coffee and roasted malts are smelt easily after opening and while pouring. Secondary smells of dark chocolate.

T - Simi-sweet chocolate upfront with a slight coffee aftertaste and dark malt following

M - Not too thick just about right on the oatmeal stout front

O - I like it. Not as much as some of my favorite breakfast coffee stouts like Wake-n-bake and FBS, but I will definitely make sure I have these in my fridge for those chilly nights. Very reasonably priced too.

Such a great beer. Pours a deep black with tan head. Nose starts out with coffee, roastiness, etc. Taste is great. Deep roasty flavors, hints of coffee and semi sweet chocolate. Oatmeal lends the stout a smooth, velvety mouthfeel. Truly one of my favorite beers.

Poured on tap at local bottle shop.

A: Poured pitch black with one finger head. Some lacing.

S: Cold coffee. Roasted malts and maybe a hint of chocolate. Not as pronounced as I was hoping for.

T: Coffee of course mixed with roasted malts. I was hoping for bigger flavors, but they are a bit muted here.

M: A bit thin for my taste. Reminds me more of a porter than a stout, and with oatmeal in the name, I was hoping for more body.

O: A good coffee stout, but not my favorite of the group.

Got to sample this from the kilt wearing guys at DLD. Thanks for the couple "samples". Here are the notes that I took.

A-Poured into my Dogfish snifter. Nice deep dark brown color. Nice 1/4 inch off tan head that leaves nice lacing around the glass.

S-This smells of malty goodness. Has nice hints of burnt coffee and chocolate. The roasted malts I think take the backbone of this beer.

T-Nice toasted malt taste upfront with a faint hint of hops that sneaks up on the taste as it goes down. You can taste the chocolate more after the first drink. Also, the oats shine a little more once you sip on this for a while. This is a very nice tasting beer good to it's style.

M- This is a very smooth feeling beer. I wish it was just a tad more carbinated for my pleasure. Left a kind of soapy like residue over my tounge that took me a little while to get rid of. It's a little heavy but not as much as one would expect. Nice silky feel to it.

D- I am kind of picky when it comes to stouts. This one not only had me going the entire time but I also went on a walk to get another sample as soon as my first was about gone. I would drink this as a semi-regular if I could get it here.

No canning date, poured into a snifter

A- pours a pitch black color with a small khaki colored creamy and foamy head that eventually reduces to a thick ring around the edge

S- chocolaty malt with some smokey notes, fresh coffee, oats, fig & raisin

T- big dark chocolate bitter-sweet flavors up front with a dose of creamy espresso quickly following. Light smoky malt mixes with creamy oats, with a hint of caramel and dark fruits. The finish gives some herbal hop notes with more espresso at the close

M- medium body with medium carbonation leads to a big foamy mouthfeel with a smooth and creamy, dry finish

O- nice coffee notes and super drinkable from the oat smoothness, very good

What can you say about a coffee oatmeal stout?

The smell: first a confession. I don't normally drink coffee, because most coffees are coarse and harsh tasting. However, the nose on this baby is coffee, coffee, glorious coffee! The rich, warm, dark brown smell has to be smelled to be believed!

Taste: this is the reason why I drink coffee on occasion... the taste is rich, smooth, lightly effervescent on the tongue, lively, and bright.

Mouthfeel: the initial coarse mouthfeel on first serving disappears into a gorgeous rich creaminess as it reaches a pleasant cellar temperature.

Appearance: not *quite* black.. hints of very dark woody brown lurk under the blackness.

A devastating combination with pumpkin pie, and I am looking forward to trying it with cheesecake.

If you like coffee, or you like stouts... try this beer. Outstandingly good.
