A: Mildly cloudy light copper in color. Forms a very large, fluffy, tannish, yellowish colored head. Great retention and excellent lacing.
S: Aroma is a strong blend of malts and hops. The hops are fairly pungent. Pine, grapefruit, and a strong dose of fusel spice.
T: Taste is strong and not at all nuanced. There is a pretty good malt backbone. Some caramel malt. Then there is a lot of hops. Orange, grapefruit, herbal spice. But the hops are overextracted and there is a borderline soapiness. Finishes with a tannic astringency that leaves the beer with a bit of a dirty quality.
M: Medium bodied. Appropriate carbonation. Strong, astringent bitterness. Slight soapy quality.
O: I have mixed feelings about this beer. I enjoy it for it's in-your-face hoppiness and alcohol levels, but at the same time, there is no nuance to this beer. It's just full of malt, hops, and bitterness, with little restraint.

A friend brought a sealed growler back to New York with her.
It poured a lovely head.
There's definite evidence of hop-bursting and dry-hopping with a good amount of hops.
The aroma is flowery with hints of grapefruit. It's one of the best Double IPAs I have ever tasted.

A: Nice solid but opaque orange with a white head that just has a slight tint of yellow in the middle.
S: Peach, fresh orange, tropical fruit and papaya.
M: Fresh orange, peach, papaya, tropical fruit, taste is basically the same. Almost a bit sweet.
M: Full side of medium bodied with typical IPA carbonation levels.

On tap at the Mello Mushroom is Tuscaloosa. Served in a chilled goblet.
Golden color with off-white head that lingers pretty well in glass.
Smell is malts and some sweet fruit. Not as much hop character as I expected.
Taste is sweet malts. Much maltier than expected. There is some nice hop fruitiness, but definitely not as hoppy as I would have expected for a DIPA. Moderate bitterness in the finish.
Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied with average carbonation.
Overall this was good, but a bit of a disappointment given the ratings. Perhaps the hops have fallen off a good bit. Not sure how old the keg is. I will definitely try this one again to see if this was just an old serving.
