Tons of rye (by commericial brewery standards) in this one. Columbus hops dominate. Really solid American IPA with balanced bitterness and malt with rye spiciness. Love the hop profile and the absence of any cattiness from the hops. Good People are on the path to greatness.

32 ounce growler -> Highlands Brewing snifter

A - medium to dark amber with a foamy one finger head that is the color of lemon meringue. Retention is basically limited to a thin ring and there is a moderate amount of lacing.

S - very bready, with some pine, and floral notes as well.

T - the caramel malts contain a lemon like sourness giving way to a big rye bready finish.

M - nice and thick with decent levels of carbonation.

O - If you can get this stuff by all means do. It isn't canned yet, but it is worth seeking out.

On tap at Mellow Mushroom in Mobile. First time I've seen Mumbai Rye south of Birmingham, nice.

A- bronze-ish appearance is good. Delivered with a solid 2 finger head.

S- spicy rye and a orange lemon citrus split the nose a perfect 50/50. A little pine and some faint malt finds its way in as well.

T- rye, pine, and a little citrus taste great, all working together perfectly.

M- solid full feel here. This is where one might thinks its more than 6%, nice full mouth.

D- this one could get you in trouble. Goes down great with the pizza and spicy crushed red pepper. Really a nice beer.

Hands down my favorite Good People beer and I believe it will be one of the beers that puts them on the craft brew map in years to come. I'm a huge rye beer fan (I still haven't had one I didn't like, even the "surprise! it's rye!" beers I didn't expect) but this one takes the cake. The color is a clean, golden amber and the smell is evocative of air after a spring rain in the woods with hints of malt. This beer is truly quaffable. I mean it. It's smoother than James Bond at a "Porn Star and Vodka" convention. The hops give a thoroughly pleasant earthy-spicy zing while the smooth, rich malt is punctuated by a roasty, toasty highnote thanks to the delicious rye. If you don't try this beer when you have the chance then you will truly miss out on a needed life experience. I have drank this beer first thing in the morning at 9am and believe me, Folgers can go f*** itself. ;)

This is a delicious and interesting brew from the folks at Good People.

A spicy, earthier cousin of their regular IPA, the Mumbai utilizes the natural kick and complexity of the rye to harmonize with the piney notes from the IPAs hoppiness.

I love rye beers and this is one of the best I've had. The rye asserts itself from the get go, but doesn't overwhelm. The hops and malt balance this beauty into complex, but easy drinking suds.

Great aromas of spicy rye and dank hops in the nose.

Dry and clean in the finish, this a beer you'll want to grab for the next once you're done.

A really enjoyable beer overall.

Visited J. Clyde's in Birmingham based on research from Beer Advocate. Wanted to try some of the brews offered by Good People and they had five on tap. The Mumbai Rye, great name, poured a clear amber color with a nice head and fantastic sticky lacing all the way down the glass. The scent was big hop that dominate the smell. Earthy, spicy, with slight citrus was present. Taste included rye spiciness at the start, but the hops take over the flavor and leave with nice bitterness. Very enjoyable and distinct hops flavor. The mouthfeel is very nice, beer had full body. I could enjoy a couple of these without issue.

Growler, big thanks to Stacey & Michael from Huntsville for sharing!

Pours clear amber with a two finger off white head that leaves a bunch of spotty and drippy lacing and holds a good cap.

Hoppy aroma of pine, citrus, grassy & floral with a shot of rye to go along with it, very good strength.

Flavor is more pine, citrus fruit and rind, very nice spicy rye kick, a dash of caramel malt sweetness, followed by moderate bitterness, dry, lingering finish.

Mouthfeel is medium, almost creamy, low to medium carbonation.

One of the better Rye Beers I've had and a great hop kick to play along with it. My first Good People brew and I'm quite impressed!

A brewing historian at the University of California- Davis has postulated that beer is one of the reasons humanity ceased its wanderings and set about the task of building stationary communities. Beer provided us with a safe drinking supply, a way to store carbohydrates for extended periods of time, and a balm for aching muscles and weary hearts. Beer became one of the defining characteristics of a community; it was a shared resource that bound people together. When the daily labor was finished, beer refreshed us and nourished us. The fellowship we had gathered around a crock of local brew gave us a chance to relate to one another and form common goals. Thousands of years of brewing tradition and knowledge have culminated in one batch of beer in Birmingham , Alabama . Mumbai Rye IPA from Good People Brewing Company is the beer we deserve.

When Amber at the J. Clyde set my pint in front of me, I knew I was at the edge of something important. Mumbai Rye has a bright maple color and retains a creamy silken head of froth with a tireless enthusiasm. Rather than simply allowing light to pass through, the beer seemed to gather it up and give it back to us. The aroma is spicy, malty, and abundantly hoppy. My mind swimming with the promises issuing forth, I drank with gusto.

The next few seconds seemed to stretch into a lifetime. I became a spectator as my taste buds raced back and forth between malt and hops. Spicy rye walked hand in hand with toasty caramel sweetness, the two becoming one. They are the altar upon which the brewer placed the sacraments of hoppiness, and I must genuflect. Herbal spice, warm mandarin orange, sharp black pepper, lemon zest, the grassiness of a sunlit meadow in springtime, the resinous pine of our forests in fall, and fleeting honeysuckle are only the beginnings of what this beer is. Mumbai Rye climbs to the summit of Mt. Hood and claims it in the name of Liberty . The mouthfeel is smooth, velvety, and life-affirming. The carbonation does not merely effervesce... it exhilarates. The finish induces a sense of awe like the ghostly moments of a fireworks show concluded, when the air is full and alive.

I am young now, but that will pass. My eyes will dim and memory will fade. But I'm glad that I had a chance to pass on my experience of Mumbai Rye IPA before time could claim me.

At the J. Clyde on draft. Horray!

This beer pours a golden amber brown with a creamy white head. Mad lacing. Looks good. Did I say the sticky lacing was beautiful?

All doubt that this was a beer other than a rye is shattered after the first whiff of this beer. Hops and citrus round out this beer with a malty end.

This beer has a hoppy front end that is more than a pleasure, well balanced with the rye and malt flavors. The finish is fresh rye bread and mild bitterness.

This beer has a medium body with good carbonation that creates a frothy body to the beer that is very pleasant.

I could drink a lot of this beer. A good rye; check it out.

(Had on cask at The Nook's (Huntsville, AL) third anniversary party.)

Poured a bright orange, very odd for the usually more subdued copper/amber pale ales; very little head and no lacing. Very hop cloying scent, huge citrus and slight grassy, but with no malt backing. Same for the flavor; had a huge hop flavor up front with a cloying citrus hop aftertaste without enough body to mellow it out. Went down smooth, but very sub-par for a cask ale.

on tap at The Nook in Huntsville, AL

A- light amber w/ good clarity for an IPA. a finger of white head reduces to a film and collar. decently heavy lacing

S- pale malts mix with the rye to create a nice biscuit like aroma. some floral hops are about all I pick up besides that. quite muted in the aroma and lacking the citrus components I love in the nose of an IPA.

T- an improvement from the nose. pale and rye malts blend in the beginning. not very bitter at all. the rye shines again in the finish though, and almost reminds me of the character of sour mash whiskey.

M- light/medium body. crisp and refreshing. could be a great summer beer.

D- goes down super easy. no challenging flavors get in the way of taking this one down with speed
