Large but simple, obnoxious but very likable, unfiltered...Bubba. A big American version of the classic Pilsner style. A simple malt bill is complimented by a ridiculous amount (nine additions...nonuple hopped brewed??) of flavorful American hops. A golden straw colored beer encompassing a huge hop aroma and flavor profile. All the qualities of a clean/crisp pils with lots of citrus and floral flavors.

Utterly fantastic. This baby's hopped to Jupiter and back. I don't know the full hop bill, but I've heard Liberty takes center stage on this. Got to be dry hopped with so much face-smacking aroma popping out. Flavor is mostly hops but with a nice lager smoothness. I get a bit of lime and some other citrus out of it. You can tell it's got a little more alcohol than Budweiser Select 55, but I wouldn't have guessed 8.2%, for sure. Drinkable as hell.

I haven't had as many Imperial Pils as some other styles, but I've had a respectable smattering of them and this is my favorite by a pretty wide margin. Some of them get a bit sweet but Malone either got this sufficiently dry or the IBUs balance it out to keep it from being cloying.

Only ding is that the appearance is cloudy. Not sure if that's some yeast or traces of hops from dry hopping or protein haze or what. In an IPA I dig some cloudiness but in anything with "pilsner" in the title, imperial or otherwise, i expect clarity. Doesn't really detract from my enjoyment, but got to point it out.

Pours a slightly hazy yellow with a nice foamy head.

Smell is sweet grain and some booze. very pleasant smelling.

Taste is perfect for the style. Great grain presence and sweetness on the aftertaste. Hops balance this beer perfectly.

Great mouthfeel. Light but not watered down. Perfect carbonation.

I try not to hype on hometown brews but man this is such a great beer. Love this brewery.

Had this one on tap at the J. Clyde, the only place for the GP special releases. The color is the classic pilsner gold, and just a little cloudy. Nice soft, effervescent head despite the ABV. The aroma is very intense, with lots of tropical fruits and orange zest. The taste of this beer is nothing short of spectacular. It has the kind of rich hop profile you would expect from a DIPA, but with the crispness of a lager. At first, it's like getting hit in the mouth with a pineapple, and then comes citrus and flowers and a few other things I just can't pick out. I've had a few other Imp pilsners, but this one stands so far above them as to be in its own category. The mouthfeel is almost to light for the ABV to above 8%, but it is perfect for this beer. If this beer had any sweetness to it, it would be fruit juice. WARNING: This beer is dangerously drinkable. The imperial pils is definitely my new favorite Good People offering among an already stellar list.
