Killer Whale Cream Ale by Bold City Brewery Jacksonville Fl. 5.5% alcohol.

A- Pours a calm yellowish orange fluid that produces a small white head leaving light if any lacing.

S- Slight citrusy scent and mild malts are in the nose.

T-M- Taste is a small bite of citrusy hops and mild malty backbone. Mouthfeel is smooth but lacking on the creamy side but all and all drinkable.

O- Drinkable as hell if at the right price.

Bold City Cream Ale
Poured from a 12 oz bottle into my DFH Signature glass
A: Pours a cloudy, straw colored yellow with no head.
S: Like a generic lager with some lemon and a little funkiness.
T: Bland, tastes like a cheap lager i.e. Budweiser; I thought this was supposed to be a cream ale, where’s the ale? Where’s the cream? Maybe some slight lemon flavor.
M: Same, Generic and slightly skunky despite only buying this two weeks ago.
O: Not impressed, better than PBR that’s about it. C

Hazy golden in color. Aroma hints of yeast, bread and a flour tortilla, wheaty bready. Not an awful beer but not my favorite

This is a light ale brewed in Jacksonville Florida. It is a easy beer to drink, and if you want something simple to enjoy while talking with friends. It is far better than any of the corp light beers, but dont expect a IPA here either.

A- light golden colour, small head about the size of a finger.

S- bread, roasty

T- just like the smell, a very bready taste, sweet

M- light, thin, smooth

D- very drinkable, little aftertaste.

Well it fits the style its a ale like bud, decent but nothing great in fact most of Brain beers with the exception of the IPA and white wheat ale, taste all about the same good but bland. I mean its beer, it gives you a buzz and its local fresh and cheap, if it was not Cheap I would not buy it to be honest. Seems its too 7 b like to me, the guy needs to break out and do something different.

A: clear yellow , no yeast, its filtered, little head when poured into a pint glass maybe 1/2 inch tops

S: some bread, very very faint hops

T: crisp, clean, bland, some what pilsner like, BMC like, not my favorite, some light bread, no hops

M: lite body, kind of watery

D: it goes down ok, but has a twang after taste, I did not think it was that great its decent but I did not want another.

Bold City Brewery "Killer Whale Cream Ale"
12 oz. can, coded "344 14 14:35"
$2.29 @ Total Wine @ More #901, Tampa, FL (uggh, I could've bought it at Winn Dixie in Jacksonville for $1.66)

Killer Whale Cream Ale pours a hazy (not to style) deep gold body beneath a short-lived head of bright white that drops to just a thin collar and leaves little lacing behind.

The aroma is clean with the exception of a light touch of sulphur and some yeastiness, and expresses a pleasant combination of grainy malt and apple-like fruitiness.

In the mouth it's light and crisp. A touch more carbonation might give it a little zip.

The flavor delivers the malt promised in the nose, with a wider, fuller character. It remains grainy in a good way, and backed by a minimal amount of hop flavor it becomes a bit grassy. It's only lightly sweet, and a limited, restrained bitterness balances it. The gentle fruitiness gives it life, and it's really quite pleasant and easy to drink, finishing dry with some residual grainy malt and a hint of grassy and leafy hops.

Although it doesn't quite match the specifications for a mainstream "cream ale" (mainly clarity, some aromatics), it's quite a nice beer in its own right (and I don't know any craft brew drinkers who are too into clarity). Quaffable might be a good word to use to describe it!

Was in JAX fro a Monday evening Football game and stayed at the Hyatt that had the Killer Whale Cream Ale on tap. The beer is a light ale brewed and is very easy to drink, The beer poured a light clear golden with thin white head. The smell included grain and barley. The taste was similar to the smell a very bready taste with slight hints of sweetness. The mouthfeel was light in body but smooth with mild carbonation. Overall is was a decent cream ale and very drinkable.

Good beer. Tasty. Smooth, and absolutely no hoppy taste. Could use a higher ABV, but hey...it's pretty decent.

A: Straw yellow, no carbonation in the body, but the head is the largest I have ever seen on any beer, including many Belgians. With no agitation, the bottle overflowed with foam on opening, filled up a half pint glass with seven fingers of foam, then a full pint glass with 7 fingers of foam. Still beer in the bottle, and more foam is oozing out! Foam is off white and fluffy with large and small bubbles.

S: Phenols, some belgian style yeastiness, fruitiness, some german pilsener hops. Seems like a pilsener crossed with a Belgian pale, but much lighter.

T: Very light, the Belgian yeastiness comes through, as well as the pilsener hops, some hard water.

M: Light watery body, low carbonation.

O: Love the bottle, carried this one thousands of miles to China where I’m enjoying it near the end of summer. Light and refreshing, would pair with lots of foods, especially pizza, hot dogs and hamburgers, summer fare.

Bold City Killer Whale Cream Ale
12oz bottle into a pilsner glass

A: Pours a crystal clear, straw yellow with just under a fingers width of bright white head which dissipates down fairly quickly to only a thin outer ring. Looks like a budweiser, except slightly darker. Leaves no lacing.

S: Toasted white bread. Thats about all I get.

T: Lots of grain, some adjunct type flavors. A touch of spice. Not awful, in fact, better than I expected, but still not very good.

M/D: Heavy carbonation, medium bodied, drinkability is good, but for such a light beer it better be.

O: A decent example of a pretty dismal style. I dont really understand the concept of craft beer and adjunct ingredients. A craft brewery brewing a cream ale is like a woman getting a breast reduction, it just doesn't make sense and quite frankly should be illegal. Overall, not terrible, but I would not ever purchase this.

Poured on-tap at the Bold City Brewery, the beer was served up in a pint glass. The beer pours a pale yellow-gold coloring, slightly hazy, with not a trace of head. There is a slightly sour malty aroma, with some slight musty overtones. Round and smooth bodied, yet it remains light in mouth. The beer has roasty/toasty flavors, with a smokey and roasted aftertaste. Smooth finish. This is well-bodied, which is different for the lager taste that this cream ale carries with it. Interesting brew, and I think it might have been a little bit better out of the growler after it had some time to settle and warm. Either way, I would drink it!

Doesn't pour like a traditional cream ale and has a little more carbonation than you would normally expect from a cream ale. Great taste and smooth finish; absolutely no hop but leaves a subtle buttery aftertaste.

Pours a thick, creamy yellow color. Haze shows readily, even when held to the light.

Sweet in the nose, with some banana aroma. Perhaps a bit of a citrus aromatic hop as well. Not unpleasant.

Definite "cream" taste reminds me almost of a non-alcoholic cream ale from my youth. Again some banana taste as well.

Excellent mouthfeel, very rich and creamy, with an excessively clean and crisp finish. Very pleasant all around.

Nothing really in the way of enjoying this. Dry and crisp in the finish leaves you wanting something else. Low ABV makes this extremely easy to drink. Soft creaminess does not disappoint.

A: Hazy yellow, with a slight orange tint. Small white head, decent lacing

S: Grains, corn

T: Sweet malts and corn taste, then a slight hop bitterness, very slight sweet aftertaste

M: Thin, smooth

O: Very nice lighter beer. To quote Forest Gump, " I could drink about a million and a half of these". Nice alternative to an American Lager.

Thanks to Earlycsquid for sharing this one at the monthly bottle share held at Flask Fine Wines in Studio City, CA.

Pours a hazy yellow with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, earth, and grass aromas. Taste is much the same with grain and grass flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of toast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with solid grain forward aspects all around.

Serving type: can.

Had this a few times around town before I decided to render judgment.

A: pale yellow in color, some head not much, I think its too cold.
Temperature check yep its 36F right out of the tap.

S: sweet bread, and some malt nose, with a faint detection of hops. not much here.

T: humm can you say bud? very light in flavor, some sweet malt, not yeast, spicy faint hops. very bland.

m: light body. medium carbonation

D: well tastes and drinks like bud to me, which I hate, some since I hate this beer, not much to say, other that so long.

Killer Whale Cream Ale
Bold City Brewery
Style: Cream Ale
pint glass from a growler @ home, 10/10/09

Bought a growler with the wife and some friends to enjoy at home. I enjoyed the brew while it was fresh, it lost it's carbo after about 6 housr in fridge, but was enjoyable up until then.

A 4.0 - Light yellow golden/straw in color. Ok head & retention. Little to no lace.
S 4.0 - Aroma of grains, fragrant toasty corn/rice smells.
T 4.0 - Taste as it smells, corn aromas evident. Roasty corn sweetness.
MF 3.0 - low-medium carbonation, could be the growler as it was better at the taproom.
D 4.0 - @ $10 for a 1 gallon growler it's good for a cream ale. I would much rather drink the Hefe, Duke's Brown, or IPA - which will be my growler refills in the future.

Had this on draft...nice head that goes away fairly quick...very lite, with a name like killer whale you would think very heavy, but the exact opposite...the cream note is very subtle...enjoyed this on tap, not sure about a can...will try again soon, very pricey in my area!

If I have to have a light beer, let it be this. It's light and refreshing and actually has some fruity notes and no off flavors. This beer will pair with those lighter meals like salads that imperials won't. It's a golden color with a high carbonation which makes this a nice bubbly delight. The craft beer to train people on..

A: Poured a hazy gold almost amber color into a pint glass, the head was relatively large white in color it dissipated rather quickly leaving a fair amount of lacing.

S: At first there is a hint of yeast, a subtle sweetness that is then over taken by hops, on the whole however the scent is weak, one has to really sniff right over the glass to draw in the scent.

T: The taste is light slightly bitter upfront, towards the end a very very mild sweetness is noticeable mixed in with a malty character

M: On the whole it has a very light feel, not very much carbonation though not flat the best way to describe it is thick though this is contradictory with its light character. I am not sure if I really like or dislike this seemingly contradictory feel it is admittedly very unique.

O: I'm a bit mixed on this one, the flavor is enjoyable and its slight complexity keeps one coming back for more, however the weak scent and what i would call bizarre feel are turnoffs. Perhaps this can was an outlier perhaps these are the desired traits of the style I'm not sure. Overall though it's not too bad and for something that is just as drinkable as a Bud and not much more expensive it's not a bad deal either.

Arrives clear and pale yellow with white head that drops fairly fast but leaves a smattering of lace.
Smell is malt, tortilla chips and not much else.
Taste is weak like the nose with malt and tortilla chips, some yeast and faint hops.
Light body though heavier than a lager. Lightish effervescence. Not bad but nothing to recommend it either.

A pale gold with a short white head that vanishes quickly.

Aroma of grain with a hint of hops and sulfur. The grainy aroma carries over to the taste, which mixes cereal flavors with notes of bread and some mild hop flavors.

Creamy body that's a hallmark of the style.

Something for those who aren't fans of bitter brews. An option for the times you want to drink a lighter ale. This is a lawnmower beer.

I have had this one before but a friend of mine loves it and brought some over so I am reviewing it this time around.

A: thin white head on a hazy golden-yellow body. Not exciting but par for the style.

S: musty light malt flavor. typical grain and grassy notes as well.

T: more grains, bread and light malts. very subtle fruity notes if you search them out.

M: light body and highly carbonated.

Overall: maybe I am harsh on these because I am not a fan of the style but to me a cream ale should be creamy and most usually are not.

Poured into a pint glass at kickbacks
Reviewed from notes

A-Pours ultra gold. Oddly thiny fizzy head for a cream ale with not much lace or bubbles.

S-very very light aroma a little sweetness and some very faint indistinguishable hops.

T-A mild amount of sweetness and a splash of citrus and no creaminess. Weak flavors all around and a funky odd aftertaste that lingers.

M-Oddly the mouthfeel saves this beer for the most part. Its almost what it should be for the style maybe a little on the fizzy side.

D-Drinkability of this beer is as high as it is light. I did not really care for its flavors that much but if you did this would be a very drinkable beer for you. I did try the Dukes brown ale after this and enjoyed it much better but didnt have the time to review it. In the future however I will pass on this one.
