Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: charlzm on 01-02-2014

This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

In the style of the strongest monastic beers (Quad). This ale is a reason for the description “Liquid Bread”. We use Belgian Malts, Styrian Golding hops, and very dark Belgian candy syrup combined with a fruity and somewhat spicy Belgian Yeast Strain.

Consumed at the brewery on December 30th, 2013.

Very dark, murky caramel color. Only a tiny rime of head.

No aroma (maybe served too cold?).

Sweet. Cinnamon and yeasty dark bread. Some toffee, anise. Sweet.. Did I mention sweet? Treads a fine line between too sweet and sickeningly sweet.

Some carbonation tingle but also slightly watery.

I've never had Westvleteren 12 (which this beer is allegedly a tribute to), but it must be better than this to have such a legendary reputation.

Growler from Appalachian Vintner. 3/16/14. Very good representation of the style. Nice lacing. Candied sugar, dark fruit. Sweet, but not cloying. High drinkability for the ABV.
