Made in 2008, 11% abv. Poured very slowly into snifter, so that sediment stays in the bottle. Chesnut brown on the countertop, but copper and clear when help up to the light. Not much head at all, rather a tan film that stays on throughout.
Woody aroma, leather, toffee, figs, subtle citrus hops.
Rich, toffee, dark fruit up front. Bitter, fruity citrus yet very refined. A little molasses sweet. The citrus is there, but is not a prominent presence. Velvety mouthfeel. Hoppy yet so smooth and delicate. Little bitter on the finish, with a nice dose of the hop, leather and wood. Does not drink like 11%. Just like I remember from past years @ the Toronado...very good barleywine.
2007 bottle- Fluffy finger of off-white head. Rather striking in the glass.
