Pours an orange-amber color while yielding a nice, creamy head. Generous lacing on the side of my glass. Crisp, earthy malt aroma with some subdued hop notes as well. Nice! Taste is so soft and delicate. Caramel and faint chocolate with a mild residual sweetness (wildflower honey collected on Mt. Hood apparently doing its part). Stellar! Mouthfeel is flawless. Quite smooth but semi-full. This is pure joy to drink. Alcohol never intrudes. Quite the drinkable brew.
I am kicking myself for not making the trip to the brewery a few weeks ago to get the barrel aged stuff. Maybe a bit to uninvolved for some barley wine aficionados, but to me this strikes a perfect balance between complexity and drinkability. Cheers to Alan for a great brew.
