2010 vintage..poured into my largest snifter, because these HOTD beers can get out of hand with the carbonation..
Appearence is nice..pours a deep ruby red..substantial head with a gentle pour, boatload of sticky lacing...this is has all the look of intense brew..
Smell is frankly, quite nice..very strong...where the hops were, I imagine, is the nice sort of sweet ice tea nose..malt heavy, smells like a young barleywine..
taste is intense, Malty, sweet, fig, dark fruit, some hop bitterness..very heavy on the toungue.a bit of a boozy presence, but it is to be expected....
Mouthfeel is odviuously nice and substantial, for this style, and for HOTD, abundance of carbonation and heavy malt make for a bit of a chewy presence, which I enjoy immensely..
overall this is a sipper, but IMO a marvelous example of how a heavyweight American Barleywine..I am dying to try this fresh...
