This is courtesy Weefisheads, a good man and a good trader.

Pours a murky dark, rather intimidating burnt sienna haze. Kind of off from the barley wines I'm used too.

The smell is huge. Buttered rum, brandy, toffee, hops, hops, more hops, and a side of hops.

The taste is beautiful, it hits you with sweetness, then it moves to hops, glorious hops mixed with a malted toffee, and a rye finish.

Very creamy mouthfeel, smooth and easy, not a tongue destroyer.

Pair with a bread pudding, sweeter scones, and sweet breads.

Vintage 2005:

Dark copper color with lots of sediment stirring about. The head is of tan foam with very nice retention and leaves some fair lacing.

Lots of sweetness, mostly in the form of caramel. There is a fairly strong soapy pine scent as well.

Wow. After six years, this beer is still really pretty hoppy and surprisingly warm from the alcohol. A great blend of malty sweetness, but the hops have not disappeared and join in the fun. Very tasty beer.

The carbonation is a bit lower, not surprisingly so after six years. The body does not feel as big and full as an 11.5 percent beer should. The overall feel is good though.

A beautifully aged barleywine that is just solid overall. So glad I am having the chance to enjoy this. Made for the ages.

12 ounce bottle with 2009 date. Pours an orange/copper color with a small off-white head.
Moderate aroma of sweet alcohol, malt and fruit.
Sweet (but not cloying) caramel and honey. Lots of subtle complex flavors. A bit of cherry, orange, dark plum and apple. Some earthy/piney bitterness. Also hint of spice.
Medium-full body with velvety smooth texture. Almost no carbonation.
Tastes more like a dessert wine than a beer. Very smooth.
