Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Hair of the Dog tulip. 2011 vintage, so 2yrs old at this point. Bought for $5.49 at Total Wine in Tustin CA.

A - Very cloudy (dirty) brown and not a pleasant shade;-) Off white head leaves excellent lacing.

S - Brown sugar, dates, cat piss (in a good way).

T - Again leads in w/ sweet brown sugar, dates and finishes in a slightly black pepper, spicy note w/ a dose of catpiss hops (after 2yrs!!). Everything is very smooth, no alcohol burn. All flavors meld nicely. Nothing overwhelms.

M - Full body and very creamy. Carbonation is soft and is perfect for the body and style.

O - Great beer! The age has really mellowed it in a great way. Would even let this age a few more years as it doesn't seem to have degraded and might get even better.

2008 Vintage

This is a beer I've been waiting to try for some time now. Served this at about cellar temperature, in a snifter, from a twelve ounce brown bottle. Can't remember who traded this to me but thank you very much.

Appearance: Doggie Claws pours out a slightly hazy burnt orange color that is quite pretty. Poured this gently to not disturb the layer of sediment at the bottle of the bottle. No head what so ever, just a few thin streaks of foam. No lace, beer has a thick look to it.

Smell: Hoppy, just like the bottle states. Nice malty profile sits right behind the hops. Thick aromas of yeast with booze soaked raisins and cherries. A nice full, but somewhat tame nose overall.

Taste: Wow! I'm impressed with this beer. Hops are a bit subdued in the flavor, but give off bitter medicinal notes. A sweet malt backbone makes a nice base for this brew, and brings some balance. Short notes of raisin add a fruity character that gives this beer more depth. Alcohol seems to be pretty well hidden, but not completely. The eleven percent ABV does warm in the dry bitter finish. Very complex.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied mouthfeel that borders on syrupy. Carbonation is quite low but fits this beer nicely.

Drinkability: This one is a sipper in my opinion. Too sweet and boozy to slam down. Enjoy this one slowly.
