The tweet read "Adam from the Wood" on tap. Finally I wasn't working and was able to make it down for a glass. $8.50 for a 12oz pour. Get TulipSnifter her own because I want one for myself!
A: Very dark brown and opaque like prune juice with a tight half finger of espresso like head that slowly recedes to a fuzzy thick glass ring. No lacing but who's expecting any? 5/5
S: Smoke, leather, and tobacco are all adjectives I've used with regular Adam. They're all here as well but more intense. Add the wood, and coconut comes to play as does dark fruit and strong brown liquor. 4/5
T: Sweet decadent fruity sugars, beautiful bourbon, rum notes, raisins, smoked meat, chocolate heavy on the cacao, heavy handed alcohol, and more of that wonderful tobacco. 4/5
M: The alcohol is a little aggressive at this point and my tongue has some tingling alcohol burn going on. Some time in the bottle (whenever it actually get's bottled) should help reduce that alcohol bite. Thick and appropriately carbonated with a cleaner finish then I expected for such a big beer. Not too sticky. 4.5
O: A truly wonderful beer. Just like the base Adam, it's one of a kind. Call me crazy, but I think I actually prefer the non-barrel aged base beer though. That could be due to (as I stated in the mouthfeel) the alcohol being too big and hot at the moment. I'd love to stash a few bottles of this away for a year or so and see if that helps it integrate better. Just let me know when these are getting released and count on seeing me in line. 4/5

My first Hair of the Dog experience! Big thanks to Dan for sending this my way.12 oz bottle split three ways and poured into a tasting snifter.
A- Flat as my high school girlfriend. No head ever forms with sparse carbonation appearing in disappearing within three second. Color is a deep, rich mahogany with some light pushing through on the fringes.
S- What a bouquet. Caramelized raisins sprinkled with brown sugar. Backing all of this up is some firm oak and vanilla.
T- Drink this just below room temperature. I started drinking at refrigerator temp, and wasn't a huge fan. Once it warms, though, it opens up beautifully. All the sweet flavors mentioned above are balanced out by the superb oakiness. So smooth with hardly a trace of the 12% alcohol.
M- Again, drink it warm. Body felt thin and awkward, again, like my high school girlfriend. However, as it warms, it matures and the body is more robust, complimenting the flavors beautifully.
O- If you read this, heed my advice: don't bother letting this get too cold, as it must be had warm. Unless, of course, you enjoy muted flavors and a thin mouthfeel. I thoroughly enjoyed this beer and am eager to try the cherry variant.

2014 vintage poured into 3 Floyds snifter.
Pours opaque black, no carbonation, the end..
Aroma is huge charred dark fruits like raisins, figs, prune. Spiced rum, smoke, leather, oak, scotch, dark caramel, and hints of cognac. Tremendous nose on this and like Cherry Adam is among the best for Old Ales.
The taste is huge leather, caramel, fig, smoked maple syrup, old raisin, shaved wood, Brandy, and vintage rum. Sweeter than base Adam, with deeper booze and dark fruit flavors. Also has an earthiness to it but it's possibly the oak tannins reacting with the smokiness of the beer.
Mouthfeel is slick, sporting a light heavy body. No carbonation, I think Cherry had a just a bit. The lack of carbonation really isn't a spoiler. Just makes for a different drinking experience.
This is wonderful. It's meaty yet sweet like dessert. But it's not cloyingly sweet as the oak really drys out the finish. I think the lack of carbonation is what gives the impression that the beer is sweet since there are no scrubbing bubbles to clean the palate. I love the aroma, enjoy the flavors, and would be ecstatic to have this around all the time. I still think I prefer Cherry Adam though.
