This exceeded my expectations. 2012 bottle

A: nearly black with tan head

S: a lot going on - cherries, plums, dried fruit, grapes. Slight smoke and rich malts

T: great balance between the fruits above and a smoky backdrop. Charred wood, peat. Some tannin and oak. Sherry-like in many ways. Very warming but no alcohol burn or taste.

M: fully mouth coating creaminess. Sticky but not too sweet

2012

Pours like a red-tinged adam - really nice pink-stained beige head, minimal retention through duration, never looks completely flat.

Very nice aroma if rich dark cherries, cherry juice, sherry, bourbon, leather, tobacco and some dark chocolate. The cherries integrate well and the double barrel aging is very balanced.

Taste is very rich and full. Dark cherries with a little tartness, leather, nice heat from the aging, some bourbon and sherry. Very well rounded and balanced. Mouthfeel is great - full and not sticky, slick with appropriately minimal carbonation.

Great take on Adam - seems to be drinking perfect right now with everything in balance.

Received this as an extra in a trade. 2011 Vintage

A - A vigorous pour into my Duvel tulip results in not a single wisp of head..or carbonation really for that matter. Just nothing.

S - Aromas of black cherry, bourbon, vanilla, caramel, older dark fruits. Hard swirls actually bring up a weird vegative/rotten fruit thing.

T - Taste is pretty nice, good wood, bourbon, sweet caramel and malts. Nice vanilla and dark cherries. Like someone else said, sherry. Faint chocolate. Quite tasty

M - Sigh. As I feared this stuff is entirely and completely flat. Cmon...

O - Overall this was a pretty big let down. The nose is pretty good, the taste is awesome though the lack of any carbonation hinders the flavours. Was quite excited to try this beer and it was an enormous let down thanks to it being completely flat.
