Another bottle split courtesy of Unclejedi. This guy always floors me.
Pours a very murky, reddish brown in color. Actually looks like a little bit like rusty water. Not too appealing visually to be truthful with you.
Smell is tart and a bit floral. There's more of the tart character in the flavor. This is very smooth in regards to mouthfeel. There's a strong oak flavor in the finish of the beer. It's a decent beer, but I honestly had higher expectations for this beer.

Got this at The Foodery in Northern Liberties in Philly. It cost a pretty penny so I'm hoping it's good.

A - Pours a deep copper colour with lot's of cloudiness. One finger of off white head and good carbonation. No lace, no retention.

S - Lovely aroma of tart cherry, plum, wood, sugar, some dustiness. Great mix of sweet and tart.

T - Quite tart, dusty, less of that cherry/fruity character. Sweet fruit and tart cherry coming out more. Clean and solid. Flavour started out confusing and muted slightly, but it develops well and becomes more tart and complex.

M - Good carbonation, fuller end of medium bodied, and a dusty sorta funky finish.

O/D - A confusing take on the Flemmish Red style. Quite tasty and complex with some odd notes, but overall a pretty tasty one. I think this was about $30 so I'm a bit confused on the hype/rarity, but I'm trying to enjoy it for what it is. What it is, is good.

12oz bottle poured into HF stemmed fest glass. Thanks Michael (black13) for sending this to me.

A- Pours a dark ruby red with a slight orange hue to it, decent translucency for how dark it is, nice consistent carbonation (nice to see that for how many flat HotD beers I've had), slight white head forms that recedes to a wispy layer leaving some light layered lacing.

S- Distinct cherry smell, complex malt background, oak, and a bit of sherry. Not the best flanders I've smelled but I like the fruit presence balanced with the barrel presence, at first it seems fairly one-dimensional but there are a lot of nice subtle complexities.

T- Nice cherry presence balancing with a perfect amount of sherry that complements the cherry nicely, slight oak, nice malty backbone. Not tart at all like some flanders, nice fruit presence especially after having been aged about a year and half.

M- Medium bodied, very smooth, carbonation fairly light but perfect in my opinion, very drinkable- I could probably crush a couple bottles of this.

O- I had no idea how this was going to be going into it but I was actually fairly impressed. By no means did it blow me away or would I say it was my favorite Flanders but it was definitely a quality beer worth trying.

12oz singler, from brewery

2012

I'll reiterate that this beer is horribly overpriced, though I was kind of forced into purchasing it via the anniversary pack. It's not particularly offensive, but its very weak for a flanders red. My bottle was actually nicely carbonated and had a lovely garnet body. Woody, muted tart cherry, vanilla, oak. Not something I would pony up for in the future.
