A-Almost black in the glass when full, but more of a clear ruby when held up to the light. Not much carbonation or head.

S-Cherries, oak, bourbon, malt, caramel, some dark fruits, very faint vanilla.

T-Starts with some semi tart cherries, then a bunch of caramel and malt. Bourbon and oak follow that up with dark fruits in the finish. As it warms the vanilla comes out more.

M-Medium to lighter in body, not much carbonation.

O-Improves as it warms, currently the cherries are in the forefront, age might tone them down but it is still a yummy beer. (555 characters)

12oz bottle into HoTD tulip at the brewery. 2013 vintage.

A: Pours a ruddy caramel color with a faint bubbly collar for a head. The bottom of the bottle is pretty chunky, that left a ton of heavy floaters in the glass.
S:I get notes of booze soaked fruits, caramel, sweet bourbon, dates, spicy barrel, and juicy candied peaches and cherries. Very sweet overall.
T: Sweet caramel and toast, bourbon barrel, currents, leather and tobacco up front. Very smooth and integrated. I get notes of vanilla, spice, cherry, honey, and chocolate in the finish, with lingering bourbon, slight cherry, and tons of leather in the aftertaste.
M: Thick and chewy mouthfeel, slick and low carbonation, tingly and sweet. Sips very well, not hot at all.
O: Amazing flavor, great barrel character with sweet fruits. Fantastic, a real treat. (820 characters)

Not sure what was going on with this one, maybe a bad bottle.

Tons of sediment - huge chunks, looked like a sample of Mississippi water. Tried to use a sieve but didn't help much.

Aroma of a big malty barleywine, but had a lot of fruit and fruit juice flavors - peach and citrus. Wet oak, brandy, tart cherry, caramel. Very smooth - hot and boozy, very little carbonation.

Not sure what was going on with this one. Did not come together well (450 characters)

Deep amber body with minimal head.

Deep boozy nose, with a hint of fruit.

Peachy taste with a bit of cherry aftertaste. Neither taste is overbearing, and impressive in spite of being difficult flavors.

Fine carbonation, relatively pronounced.

Pretty good, but the coriander is fighting with the fruit. (305 characters)

On tap at Hair of the Dog. Served in an HotD taster glass.

Appearance - Darker than Fred. Deep amber. No head. Looks flat... much like other Fred barrel treatments I've had.

Smell - Bourbon, cherry, and oak are most prominent. Pale malts. Earthy hops. A little bit of the original Fred back there, but it's a lot of barrel and fruit.

Taste - Cherry and bourbon again. The peach is faint, if nonexistent and I'm just imagining it since they told me it's Peach Fred. Maybe the Peach just cuts the intensity of the Cherry a bit. Pale malts are strong enough to make Fred come through all of this. Some apples and a slightly bitter finish that are more reminiscent of the base beer.

Mouthfeel - Pretty low in carbonation and rather hot. Not overly sweet like other barrel treatments from HotD. The weight and alcohol is expected for this size.

Overall - Really tasty. Not without the hurdles of a huge beer. Good fruit and the base beer stands up to all the craziness they've done to it. (988 characters)
