On tap at HotD.

A: Murky orange color with a thin lacing. Sits on the glass.

N: Lots of wood and earth in the nose. Pine and some cherry. Some slight vinegar and acetone.

T: Loads of pine and cedar. Oak and an aggressive bitterness. Some rosemary here too. Slightly sour and a moderate sweetness.

M: Mouthfeel is pleasantly carbonated with a light touch. Makes this easy to take down.

O: Another in the pantheon of sweet and sour. Very tannic and could use some refinement.

Serving type: on-tap

On tap the tasting room. I was told this beer was made for the recent "Cheers to Belgian Beers" festival in Portland.

The beer pours a tan toffee brown color with good head retentation and lacing. The nose was pretty complex in this one, and changed considerably as the beer warmed. Initially, I got a lot of brown sugar, caramel and chocolate, but with some underlying light sour and rootbeer as well. As the beer warmed the nose opened up considerably, as I then also got considerably more rootbeer, some vanilla, and a lot more sour notes. There was some noticeable light citrus and tropical fruit in this beer as well, along with some underlying yeasty spice notes. The flavor profile was most of the same, and again, the sour component become increasingly noticeable as the beer warmed. The sweetness in this beer really dominated the flavor profile initially, but as the beer warmed, the sour and light citrus seemed to counter it pretty nicely. The beer also finished with a nice dollop of hoppy bitterness. Mouthfeel was medium bodied with a long finish, and as I told the bartender, the beer was lot richer and more full bodied than I would normally expect in a 6.5% abv. beer.

Not sure how much of this I could drink, but it was a definite treat to be able to taste it in the HOTD tasting room. At least for now, it's featured as the current "from the wood" beer offering on the menu list.
