12 ounce bottle purchased from Liquid Solutions in Oregon for four dollars and some change, Batch 69, has been in cellar for close to a year, split with my dad tonight, poured into my new Urthel tulip
A-Very dark brown with red highlights, looked more like a stout to me, the head was massive and well over three inches, it was a light tan and very frothy, stuck around for fifteen minutes, left some of the craziest lacing I have seen
S-Blackberries, caramel, leather, tobacco, figs, other dark fruits, faint hoppinesss but probably died down with age, toffee, lots of booze, and milk chocolate
T-This tasted like a mix between a barleywine and an imperial stout, in other words it was very complex and like nothing else I have had, was nothing like the Alesmith Decadence Old Ale I had, especially not the barrel aged version, lots of sweet cocoa and dark fruit up front, finish was still a little dry from some hops that were left over, got sweeter as it warmed, caramel definitely came to the surface and dominated for a while, this one was definitely a sipper
M-Boozy, hot, sweet, and pungent mouthfeel, body was very thick almost like an RIS, taste lingered a long time as well, could have used some more carbonation in my opinion
D-Could barely get through my six or seven ounces, hard to get down and heavy on the stomach, wish it was a little smoother, alcohol is not hidden enough and you can feel that ten percent
Hair of the Dog has brewed yet another great beer, this would only get better with age too, this aged version on wood is probably incredible, glad this beer is now available near me at Beverage Warehouse, will be drinking more of this stuff in the future, recommended

Appearance - The beer poured a dark malty color with a very modest head, which is appropriate for the style.
Smell - The aroma is quite malty and perhaps borders on being syrupy.
Taste - My initial impression of the taste is the sweetness of this ale. There are notes of sweet malt, nuts, tobacco, and oak. The oak is remarkable as this is not a barrel aged variation. The beer is warming on the way down, but it is certainly not hot.
Mouthfeel - The ale is almost sticky, coating the tongue and mouth. It allows for this taste to linger.
Overall - To this point, this is my favorite edition of the style. I like it a lot.
