Batch 74. A somewhat fresh bottle poured into a wine glass. Adam glugs into the glass as a clear deep mahogany liquid, somewhat blackish sans the light. A thin tan head doesn't linger for long yet keeps a surface ring and offers decent lacing, yet comes up a bit short for a bottle conditioned brew.
Sweet cherry liqueur initiates the nose, with some chocolate and cherry/fig to follow. Quite vinous in nature with some chocolate malts and a bit of light alcohol. Very clean on the nose and without a robust hop character. Piney hops initiate but dissipate, along with some notes of smoke and leather, rather quickly.
More fruit on the tongue, cherry and raspberry, along with diffused chocolate and with a great depth of character. A light carbonation lingers for a long finish. The notable smoke and leather presence was evident initially, but dispersed after some exposure.
Offers a smooth feel with a light carbonation befitting the beer quite well. Quite drinkable and quite an illusion at the same time given the strength of this brew.

Poured into a teku, dark brown and murky, with no head. Smell up front is smoke, a dark fruits, raisins, figs a hint of cherry skin. Getting a lot of smoke in the taste. It's a subdued smoke, not like a rauch or anything, but it's definitely there. Was not expecting it and it overshadows some of the other flavors. No carb issue here. As it warms, some of the dark fruit, caramel, burnt sugar flavor is coming out. Super complex. This might have gone over my head. Worth a try for sure. I'll try some with some age on it, see how that compares.
