Batch number 80 poured into a tulip.
A: It pours a dark chestnut brown color that is completely opaque. The head is one of the most impressive I have seen. Two fingers and more and it just refuses to let go of the glass. Amazing retention and a ton of lacing.
S: The nose is full of roasted malty goodness, caramel, brown sugar, rum soaked raisins, vanilla, tobacco, and toasted pumpernickel bread round out the aroma. The yeast brings some spice and doughy goodness for good measure.
T: A huge rush of roasted malt greets the palate with some smoke in tow. The caramel goodness is not lost followed by some notes of tobacco, vanilla, apples, and dark bread. The finish is surprisingly dry with a touch of hops.
M: Thick and full bodied. The carbonation is so diesel when I swish it around in my mouth it expands to the point where I can almost chew it. Literally. Crazy.
O: I absolutely love this beer. Thanks to Alan Sprints for dusting off an old world style and spreading the love. Seek this out.

Poured into a teku, dark brown and murky, with no head. Smell up front is smoke, a dark fruits, raisins, figs a hint of cherry skin. Getting a lot of smoke in the taste. It's a subdued smoke, not like a rauch or anything, but it's definitely there. Was not expecting it and it overshadows some of the other flavors. No carb issue here. As it warms, some of the dark fruit, caramel, burnt sugar flavor is coming out. Super complex. This might have gone over my head. Worth a try for sure. I'll try some with some age on it, see how that compares.
