The wife and I stopped at Hair of the Dog on a bright, sunny Sunday morning in January. Winters in Portland sure are nicer than in New York City! A beautifully renovated industrial space, sort of like a massive loft. Airy and sun-filled, and pretty empty to boot. I like the atmosphere and would hang out here often if I lived in Portland.

Outrageous beers on tap, including Doggie Claws '09 and '13, Adam, Little Dog, Greg, Fred and a special "Brandy Barrel Fred with Strawberry". The selection of bottles is to die for: Fred from the Wood, Bourbon Fred, Michael, Otto, Collage, Matt, Cherry Adam, Adam from the Wood 2011 (this one cost me twenty bucks but was rather delicious). Some bottles to go: Otto, Adam, Fred.

Basic food, we just had a simple plate of bread and butter. Service was rather sad. So bad that my wife and I had to laugh. The bartender was either annoyed or rude or hangover or all of the above, but he sure was not nice. His face made it clear that he was not happy to serve me, and he bitched my wife out for using the little tasting glasses as cups for her non-toxic painting water. It was ludicrous.

Shit is pricey here, but so worth. The beers are truly unique and incredible, and the space is so nice and comfy. I'll forget the bad service and can't wait to go back!

This place has SO much hype behind it but didn't deliver anywhere close to what anyone had said. After touring 20+ craft breweries in the Portland area over the last month, the only thing this one stuck out as was for being the absolute worst spot, hands down and without a doubt!!! I wouldn't recommend their beers to any of my friends and wouldn't wish this place on even my worst enemy! A group of 4 of us tried all of their beers on tap and couldn't finish a single one. The service was horrendous, but at least it was better than their brews...didn't try the food, so I can't speak one way or another about its quality. I'm not one to write a bad review, but I have never in my 20 years of drinking craft brews have ever experienced such repulsive and completely unpalatable beer! I wish them the best, but if they don't get their act together, more people will realize the hype and they will quickly be out of business!!!
