The wife and I stopped at Hair of the Dog on a bright, sunny Sunday morning in January. Winters in Portland sure are nicer than in New York City! A beautifully renovated industrial space, sort of like a massive loft. Airy and sun-filled, and pretty empty to boot. I like the atmosphere and would hang out here often if I lived in Portland.

Outrageous beers on tap, including Doggie Claws '09 and '13, Adam, Little Dog, Greg, Fred and a special "Brandy Barrel Fred with Strawberry". The selection of bottles is to die for: Fred from the Wood, Bourbon Fred, Michael, Otto, Collage, Matt, Cherry Adam, Adam from the Wood 2011 (this one cost me twenty bucks but was rather delicious). Some bottles to go: Otto, Adam, Fred.

Basic food, we just had a simple plate of bread and butter. Service was rather sad. So bad that my wife and I had to laugh. The bartender was either annoyed or rude or hangover or all of the above, but he sure was not nice. His face made it clear that he was not happy to serve me, and he bitched my wife out for using the little tasting glasses as cups for her non-toxic painting water. It was ludicrous.

Shit is pricey here, but so worth. The beers are truly unique and incredible, and the space is so nice and comfy. I'll forget the bad service and can't wait to go back!

It's definitely an older building but I dig that kind of vibe. Not the biggest place but plenty of seating. Cool PNW-centric art. Lots of vintages available including a $1500 bottle of Dave from 94'. Enjoyed a 3 year vert of Adam from the wood for a much more reasonable price instead ;) Service rating gets a bit of a downgrade cuz I was curiously asking questions about the brewing process and the bartender seemed almost annoyed that I was asking. Sorry? Did not try the food but it smelled great.

Before I lived in Portland, this was a must visit. Now that I live in Portland, this is a must visit. Always enjoyable, especially with their beer not really being distributed. Pretty simple exterior and interior, with a few touches of local artwork and exposed wood beams bringing home the PNW feel. The beer and food are always on point. They have a rotation of their staples along with a few offerings "From the Wood" or on an additional handle. You can come here every couple weeks and have something new! On top of that, they offer a wide variety of their vintage bottles for consumption in the tap room. Not many places offer their beers from 3, 4, 5 years ago and beyond! And it's especially cool to try them next to their more modern brethren. Food is great and locally sourced from what I can tell. Pretty diverse menu for the size and definitely something for everyone. Just go here. Stop considering it and just do it.

Great spot. We visited in Sept and they had the garage doors open to make a larger room. Open room with the kitchen half exposed. We sat st the bar mid afternoon and had great personal service. Personable bartender. Only downside was they only had a handful of draft beers to pick from. I could see how parking could be an issue in the evening.

Loved Hair of the Dog. Very wide, open space with seats at the bar or surrounding it like you would see in a restaraunt. The service was very friendly and the beers were all excellent. I can't comment on the food as I did not eat there, but the food I saw other patrons order looked amazing.

The food is always on point. Love the Brussel Sprout dish.

Wish the beer selection were better. Frequently have empty taps, run out of items and the beer list is incredibly short compared to most places nowadays.

Love the building and the quiet yet accessibility. Feels like drinking in an old warehouse brewing district.

1st stop on day two of a recent PDX trip, stopped here for lunch.

Vibe is pretty cool, open and industrial looking. Fairly busy, but plenty of seating and space to spread out.

Quality is outstanding. As most people know, HOD makes some of the finest beers in Portland, if not the entire state of Oregon. While the selection was good, I found myself wanting a few odd ball one off beers but I don't recall any.

Service was quite good, the lady that served us was friendly, talkative and prompt.

Food was quite a bit above average. I enjoyed my lunch, as did others at our table.

Overall, one of the better beer spots in the city. Definitely put it on your must visit list.

I visited Hair of the Dog recently on a vacation through the Pacific Northwest.

V: Another great spot in Portland. There was plenty of bar seating, with several indoor tables and a few outdoor tables.

Ser: I had great service during my visit. I was primarily interested in several of the vintage bottles for consumption and my server happily went through each selection with me offering her opinion and preferences for each. She didn't simply recommend the most expensive bottle every time and she was spot on with her analysis regarding the bottles I purchased.

Sel: There was a large selection of both their standard line up and a few limited releases on tap along with a good size vintage bottle list for onsite consumption.

Overall, a great spot in Portland that I think is starting to be taken for granted in the beer community. If you like old ales, you have to stop in at Hair of The Dog during any Portland visit.

First stop on my Portland pub crawl. It's a great place. 12 taps; 2 ciders and 10 of their own beers. The usual suspects and a few new rotating ones. Bottles are basically various vintages of their awesome HotD beers, including the infamous Dave for an incredible $$$$$.

Nice place, basically a warehouse with garage doors, big old wooden pillars for support like an old factory, but bar and table tops are bright shiny new oak. Light beer decor on the walls, big open feel. It's a little out of the main area of Portland, industrial area but not hard to find.

Food was great, the Ruben was amazing. Food prices expected for Portland, beer prices average as well. Bartender was friendly and helpful, pretty knowledgeable. One of the few places I can remember that actually gives you a water without having to ask, and the food was very quick.

My wife and I tried a sample of all of their beer on tap. I feel that all of their beer is well balanced and not one flavor overwhelmed the beer. Overall I would say this is a place worth visiting.
