Hair of the Dog just recently opened its tasting room at its new Yamhill location and the response has been great! I went there last night with my wife for the first time and will be repeat customers in the future.

It was a nice day yesterday so the front roll up door to the tasting room was open to allow a nice breeze in. The location itself is near a train crossing and in the span of a few hours we had to hold our conversation for half a minute while the train went by. The train and industrial feel to the place lent to a certain counter-culture feel that will receive a ton of support from beer geeks and HotD fans. There was a central bar and several tables around the perimeter. The restrooms were easy to spot and accessible unlike a couple tasting rooms I've visited.

Our waitress was extremely attentive and quick to bring us our drinks. Alan Sprints was there in the kitchen but seemed approachable for any beer related banter. It was a family affair for him as well because a couple young boys the spitting image of him were walking around the room as well.

The beer! For $12 Misty and I shared a half dozen 3 ounce taster glasses of the HotD beers available on tap. Greg, Blue Dot, Fred, Adam, and 2007 Doggie Claws were all great but the 1 beer that we both needed our very own 12 ounce tulip of was Fred from the Wood. For $6.50 a piece I got to try for the first time I beer I called "my new favorite beer" in my review. While that is a little spendy for beer in Portland, I think it was absolutely worth it. Apparently last week Cherry Adam was on tap in its place so expect that sixth tap to be an ever changing one.

Go to Hair of the Dog, get a beer, and enjoy one of Portland's finest. To that extent, if its one of Portland's finest, its in the elite list for the planet!

Started off the second day of my Portland beercation here with a tasting flight. HotD has a spacious tasting room, and during the hour or so after opening my party had no trouble finding seating or getting service. Beers were surprisingly hit-or-miss, as I had heard, although I think their big beers remained across the board excellent.

A bit tricky to find, but don't give up. The beers are exceptional, particularly the "From the Wood" series. Try a flight for maximum impact. Our waiter was very attentive despite the crowd. We had some bread on the side, which was great to pair with the beers. The glassware is really cool and their logo can't be beat. We bought a t-shirt, glass and hat to go. Hair Of The Dog is another "must" in Portland. Their beers are exceptional. I wish I had tried more. Took a look at the brewing area in the back, which is very visible through a window, including the famous concrete egg.

It's definitely an older building but I dig that kind of vibe. Not the biggest place but plenty of seating. Cool PNW-centric art. Lots of vintages available including a $1500 bottle of Dave from 94'. Enjoyed a 3 year vert of Adam from the wood for a much more reasonable price instead ;) Service rating gets a bit of a downgrade cuz I was curiously asking questions about the brewing process and the bartender seemed almost annoyed that I was asking. Sorry? Did not try the food but it smelled great.

Before I lived in Portland, this was a must visit. Now that I live in Portland, this is a must visit. Always enjoyable, especially with their beer not really being distributed. Pretty simple exterior and interior, with a few touches of local artwork and exposed wood beams bringing home the PNW feel. The beer and food are always on point. They have a rotation of their staples along with a few offerings "From the Wood" or on an additional handle. You can come here every couple weeks and have something new! On top of that, they offer a wide variety of their vintage bottles for consumption in the tap room. Not many places offer their beers from 3, 4, 5 years ago and beyond! And it's especially cool to try them next to their more modern brethren. Food is great and locally sourced from what I can tell. Pretty diverse menu for the size and definitely something for everyone. Just go here. Stop considering it and just do it.

Great spot. We visited in Sept and they had the garage doors open to make a larger room. Open room with the kitchen half exposed. We sat st the bar mid afternoon and had great personal service. Personable bartender. Only downside was they only had a handful of draft beers to pick from. I could see how parking could be an issue in the evening.

Loved Hair of the Dog. Very wide, open space with seats at the bar or surrounding it like you would see in a restaraunt. The service was very friendly and the beers were all excellent. I can't comment on the food as I did not eat there, but the food I saw other patrons order looked amazing.

The food is always on point. Love the Brussel Sprout dish.

Wish the beer selection were better. Frequently have empty taps, run out of items and the beer list is incredibly short compared to most places nowadays.

Love the building and the quiet yet accessibility. Feels like drinking in an old warehouse brewing district.

1st stop on day two of a recent PDX trip, stopped here for lunch.

Vibe is pretty cool, open and industrial looking. Fairly busy, but plenty of seating and space to spread out.

Quality is outstanding. As most people know, HOD makes some of the finest beers in Portland, if not the entire state of Oregon. While the selection was good, I found myself wanting a few odd ball one off beers but I don't recall any.

Service was quite good, the lady that served us was friendly, talkative and prompt.

Food was quite a bit above average. I enjoyed my lunch, as did others at our table.

Overall, one of the better beer spots in the city. Definitely put it on your must visit list.
