Fourth stop on our walking tour of the SE. Picnic tables outdoors, nice big bar with a/c indoors. Took a couple of seats at the bar and were served ice water before we could even say Hello. Nice.

We decided to order a taster flight which included Lila, Ruth Fred and Adam. We enjoyed all of these beers. If you are researching for a trip here, include this stop. We are huge IPA fans and didn't know if Hotd beers would be for us, but the answer is YES. Followed up with a pint of the Blue Dot IPA. Different, but really good. A nice respite from all of the beer we had had so far on our visit. The service was attentive and friendly.

We bought two bombers of the Blue Dot to share back home, and a nice tulip glass.

walking here and finally arriving felt like a great lifelong dream had been realized, a pilgrimage completed. the beer and vibes inside did not disappoint! wow! cool place, tiny system, wrap around bar, some outside seating, avant garde art on the walls, and a beer list to rival any i have ever seen. one of the original makers of these elite level strong ales, it was great to finally get to drink all these famous beers. place was really hopping, but the service was attentive and helpful, fun and knowledgeable, and really cool to chat to. i think she was the sister of a brewer or something, cool lady. in any event, all the beers were amazing. i loved the 2008 matt from the vintage list, otto, and fred from the stone, but all the beers were amazing. pretty cool they keep all these old bottles around, and they really arent that expensive for what you get. cool glassware too. we had a meat and cheese board and it was filling and delicious and nicely curated, a perfect companion to a lot of these big interesting beers. i cant say enough about this place. it blows my mind how much they have been able to accomplish for themselves on such a little system. this is an absolutely must visit brewery, possibly my single favorite from my recent oregon trip. absolutely not to be missed.

I've read so many good thing about this place it was on my must see list for Portlandia. It's in an industrial area by OMSI so this make for a good lunch stop. The area is a bit sketchy but don't be too intimidated. The taproom/restaurant is a huge open space with good lighting. A flight of beers provides a good range of their beers, I found it just delightful, amazing, so full of flavor. We got the cheese sampler, bread, and chips so we had room for food trucks later. I also got their cherry stout from the wood which was like drinking a fruit wine. I got a souvenir glass, it came wrapped but I should had checked it then because it had a defect with a sharp edge. I MUST return here.

Started off the second day of my Portland beercation here with a tasting flight. HotD has a spacious tasting room, and during the hour or so after opening my party had no trouble finding seating or getting service. Beers were surprisingly hit-or-miss, as I had heard, although I think their big beers remained across the board excellent.

A bit tricky to find, but don't give up. The beers are exceptional, particularly the "From the Wood" series. Try a flight for maximum impact. Our waiter was very attentive despite the crowd. We had some bread on the side, which was great to pair with the beers. The glassware is really cool and their logo can't be beat. We bought a t-shirt, glass and hat to go. Hair Of The Dog is another "must" in Portland. Their beers are exceptional. I wish I had tried more. Took a look at the brewing area in the back, which is very visible through a window, including the famous concrete egg.

It's definitely an older building but I dig that kind of vibe. Not the biggest place but plenty of seating. Cool PNW-centric art. Lots of vintages available including a $1500 bottle of Dave from 94'. Enjoyed a 3 year vert of Adam from the wood for a much more reasonable price instead ;) Service rating gets a bit of a downgrade cuz I was curiously asking questions about the brewing process and the bartender seemed almost annoyed that I was asking. Sorry? Did not try the food but it smelled great.

Before I lived in Portland, this was a must visit. Now that I live in Portland, this is a must visit. Always enjoyable, especially with their beer not really being distributed. Pretty simple exterior and interior, with a few touches of local artwork and exposed wood beams bringing home the PNW feel. The beer and food are always on point. They have a rotation of their staples along with a few offerings "From the Wood" or on an additional handle. You can come here every couple weeks and have something new! On top of that, they offer a wide variety of their vintage bottles for consumption in the tap room. Not many places offer their beers from 3, 4, 5 years ago and beyond! And it's especially cool to try them next to their more modern brethren. Food is great and locally sourced from what I can tell. Pretty diverse menu for the size and definitely something for everyone. Just go here. Stop considering it and just do it.

Great spot. We visited in Sept and they had the garage doors open to make a larger room. Open room with the kitchen half exposed. We sat st the bar mid afternoon and had great personal service. Personable bartender. Only downside was they only had a handful of draft beers to pick from. I could see how parking could be an issue in the evening.

Loved Hair of the Dog. Very wide, open space with seats at the bar or surrounding it like you would see in a restaraunt. The service was very friendly and the beers were all excellent. I can't comment on the food as I did not eat there, but the food I saw other patrons order looked amazing.

The food is always on point. Love the Brussel Sprout dish.

Wish the beer selection were better. Frequently have empty taps, run out of items and the beer list is incredibly short compared to most places nowadays.

Love the building and the quiet yet accessibility. Feels like drinking in an old warehouse brewing district.
