Hair of the Dog's beers are a hot topic of discussion among beer lovers because they are some of the best beers in the world some of the time, but variation in carbonation and the odd infection are more common than I'm used to seeing from a brewery. Personally, I've always had good luck with their stuff but I have a couple friends who have sworn off HOTD due to bad experiences.

That said, this is a beer nerd's paradise. Such interesting and amazing beers. I love them all, and I love the structure of the beer lineup with a few core recipes, and then variations of each. Above all though, I love the emphasis on aging and the fact that you can drink a 13 year old Fred, a 18 year old Adam, or 8 year old Doggie Claws right off the menu. The pricing on the old bottles is certainly steeper than buying fresh beer but I think they are very reasonably priced for what they are. I paid $14 for a 13 year old bottle of Fred.

The service was efficient but not overly friendly - I wanted a lot of things (t-shirt, growler, poster, beer) and it was a challenge to get them all, both times I went there (different servers). They wanted to just give me my bill and that's that. The service wasn't slow by any means, I'll give them that!

We had sandwiches which were alright but not made with culinary enthusiasm. Perhaps the snack dishes designed to compliment the beer would have been better, in fact I'm pretty sure that is the way to go here. I think the menu could be improved upon, but the name of the game here is the beer and in a city full of amazing brewpubs, this is my favourite.
