A bulbous creamy white head sits atop a light golden pils with Little carbonation. Mose is mostly gas. malt lingers in the background. taste holds not much flavor. Bailey perceivable malt . This would be a great lawn-mower beer. mouth is smooth, but a little watery. (266 characters)

A: It pours like water, in the glass it looks like chardonnay. Nice white head on top, but it dissipates rather quickly. Very clear. It looks pretty good for the style..

S: Holy skunk ass batman!! Some malt scent in there, just a touch possibly a little noble hop smell, but it is hard to pick out.

T: Slightly sweet, with a little malt. There is a little skunk at the front of it. A slight bit of hops there, but not a lot to speak of.

M: Thin, with fairly high carbonation. It is quite the fizzy beer.

D: One is good enough for me. Not a big fan in general. But it is always nice to try the same lager from other countries. (633 characters)

Bottle: Poured a golden yellow beer with a nice white bubbly head with average retention. Aroma is quite weak but some malt can be detected. Taste is quite not enough crisp with some malt that can be detected and some very light bitterness at the end. Overall, I would classified this as a better then average lager without any skunk taste from the bottle which is a major accomplishment. (388 characters)

Beer is often a point of nationalistic pride. People will proclaim their local or national brand the best, which is why it's so ironic that, by and large, these beers are all virtually indistinguishable. One thing's for sure, they look identical. Croatia's national brand looks no different from Serbia's nor Bosnia's (nor anyone else's for that matter). It's clear, yellow, lightly bubbled, and has a fading fuzz over top.

The aroma smells, quite literally, like chicken feed: corn-y and foul. It less resembles "beer" than it does a "beer by-product" (whatever that could possibly be). It does not smell fit for human consumption. For one, there's little of anything that passes for barley or hops (and a nauseating amount of scents that could pass for less favorable, far less natural things). What the hell went wrong here?

Even chilled to low single digits, Karlovacko has a flavour that is borderline distasteful. Not entirely objectionable (for the style anyhow) but the quality of its ingredients, and the quantity of additives, is immediately drawn into question. It tastes of golden syrup, sweet with a strong chemically solvent-like mouthfeel. That latter feature is especially concerning; it does not come from water, yeast, malt or hops.

Bubbles kick in with the urgency of a mother rescuing her small child from a busy intersection. The cloying texture of corn syrup is a little slower to the scene, it sets in mostly on the finish where it unfortunately makes itself quite comfortable. This aftertaste is regrettable because the beer is relatively unoffensive until that point. The chemical-like note that caught my attention from the outset continues to grow. Could it be alcohol?

There's probably a reason this can of Karlovacko has "EXPORT ONLY" printed across its label: Croatians know better than to waste their money on it. Actually, in truth, the opposite is probably true. If I've taken anything away from this plain, adjunct-ridden lager it's that nationalism can delude people of anything, in particular that their beer is somehow superior. Croatians are free to enjoy this (if they can) but I'll pass. (2,135 characters)

clear, golden yellow color with 1cm white head that disappeared before my very eyes.
skunk, cereal grains, a very classic light beer smell and as many have said, it smells a lot like Heineken. very, very flavorless. there's some cereal grains going on, but not much else. thankfully there wasn't any of the skunk flavor detected in the nose. the finish was dry and again, very flavorless. i didn't get any of the yeasty and spicy notes that others have spoken of. high carbonation. Not that good (495 characters)

12 oz bottle from Cost Plus World Market's "Beers of the World" gift pack.

Pours a light yellow typical lager- white head vansihes quickly, but a steady stream of carbonation keeps up the beat.

Aroma of malt and wheat, slightly sweet, with lemon zest. A definite hop sharpness. Flavor follows through, but initial hop flavor is very difficult- harsh, sharp, bitter, bot good. Mellows as the taste buds are beaten into submission. But still, the hop aftertaste is just not pleasant.

Mouthfeel is moderate, not thin, not rich. But with the flavor, I just could not finish this one. (588 characters)

Pours a very light golden color with a minimal head and little lacing. Nothing special to look at.

Smelled of grains with a slight breadiness. There was a small trace of that skunkiness that seems ever present in so many euro lagers.

Tasted of grains along with some sweetness. It's a very mild tasting brew, nothing either wonderful or offensive going on here.

Mouthfeel was on the thin side and somewhat slick.

Not a bad beer, but there's just so many others out there which are far better. (497 characters)

A: Pours light golden with a white high head that dissipates after a little while leaving a hint of lacings.

S: Not so strong smell, but there is malt mixed with hops - a nice blend.

T: Malt and some hops (but far to little hops to be a good czech pilsener), some sweetnes and fruit mixed with floral notes.

M: Carbonic acids, with small bubbles. Mediumbodied.

D: The first beer I had from the Balkans, but the Czechs make far better Czech Pilsener than the boys from Croatia. But this is not a bad beer, it just got some stiff competition in the style. (559 characters)

Big 50cl can. All red with a "so-standard-I-could-cry" ellipsoid crest on the front, rather like a red version of Heineken that says "Karlovacko" instead of Heineken. displays medals it has won on the front, along with a proud "Product of Croatia" legend.

Now to the real stuff:

Pale gold body, with lots of carbonation, and a good rocky crown of white foam. Pretty good lacing too, and the retention is great.

Slightly sour, slightly tinny aroma. Some sweetness, some carbonic seltzer water flavour. Not entirely unpleasant, but to be honest it's pretty weak. Not a lot to it.

Taste is initially flat with a little sweetness. Late on the palate arrives a coppery bitterness and a residual husky, grain flavour. Mouthfeel is lightly spiky but otherwise dry. It's not as clean and smooth as some of the other easy-drinking Euro lagers, but it does have some character.

It's reasonably easy to drink, and reasonably unoffensive. It's not a great beer though, and I'd be loath to call it an above average pils-style lager. Don't count on winning too many more medals, guys. (1,075 characters)

Clear yellow in color, with a proud, fluffy, white head. Unfortunately, the aroma department yields up nothing. Dry, slightly vegetal, nothing else. Body is light, texture has some small graininess in it, and a truly cloying sweetness pervades the lasting finish. Ultimately, a lack of flavor and overwhelming blandness is the hallmark of this lager. I'm still searching for the great beer of Croatia...sigh... (410 characters)

Number six in the 10 new bland commie lagers at the LCBO. This one’s pour is a little more on the gold side of pale straw but the same crystal clear fizzy cap vanishing character as most of em. Vague light malt sweetness and some spice and medicinal grassy hops. Same fizzy bland watery mouth feel and mild malt/hop mix....5 of these type of fizzy vapid commercial Slavic lagers is all I can take..quick a porter so I can confirm I still have taste buds!! (456 characters)

500ml Can - from the LCBO

Appearance – Mostly clear yellow colour with a large size fizzy white coloured head. There is an average mount of carbonation showing and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for 2 or 3 minutes and there were some very small particles floating around in the beer.

Smell - Grains, bread, corn, floral

Taste & Mouth - The beer has an average amount of carbonation. I can taste malts mixed with light floral hops and some corn. There is also a bit of a harsh alcohol taste.. It ends with a corn syrup and floral slightly bitter aftertaste.

Overall – When will I learn to stop buying these run of the mill euro-beers. I keep hoping that one day I'm going to find a diamond in the rough, but it never happens. I made it through the can, but I won't buy this one again. (803 characters)

Picked up this 500ml brown bottle with a dull label (couldn't they at least use the famed checkered pattern, like on the flag and soccer shirts?) today at Sam's Blue Light in Durham.

Pours a nice golden color with reasonable head and tons of slow moving visible carbonation. Nose is adjuncts over malts; astringent and barely palatable.

Taste is fairly malt dominatted for a pilsner, but fairly inoffensive. Unfortunately, the texture is limp and lifeless, with little crispness or hop bite in the aftertaste. Far too watery to be satisfying, and too impotent to be refreshing. This beer is inconsistent and not really worth your time unless you just want to try a Croatian beer, like I did. One is enough. (713 characters)

12 ounce green bottle without freshness dating.

Pours a crystal-clear pale golden color. Somewhat flat, with essentially zero head and faint lace. Smells like cut grass, metallic hops, and light-toasted biscuit malts. Generally lacks in flavor. Some hop bitterness is evident, but there are too many oxidized metal overtones Finishes with unwelcome stewed-corn sweetness. The body is painfully thin and watery; disappears down your throat before you notice it.

I suppose the beer-of-the-month club ran out of worthwhile things to import. (540 characters)

This beer pours a clear straw-gold color. The head is one inch in height, and recedes quickly into sparse lacing. The aroma has a faint hint of biscuity malt, but mostly it is of nothing. The taste is has little more of the biscuity malt than the aroma with the addition of some very mild noble hops. The mouthfeel is light-medium bodied with lively carbonation. Overall, this is a decent beer at best. It's not so bad that I can't finish one bottle, but it isn't good enough to rink again. (490 characters)

This beer caught my eye at the LCBO because its Croatian and my dad is also. I wasnt expecting much though.

It pours a pale straw with a decent foamy head. Lacing is very good, the only thing hurting this beer's appearance is its pallid color. The aroma is of a typical macro lager, very sweet and lacking in hops and barley malt. the taste is grainy and husky with a distinct adjunct corn flavor. The hops are imperceptable except for a tiny bit of floral flavor. The mouthfeel is light with chunky over-carbonation.

I would pass on this beer again. There is really nothing that distinguishes it from other international macro lagers. (642 characters)

11.15oz. bottle. This pours a clear golden color. Mine had minimal head, even though there was moderate carbonation. The aroma is actually pretty decent. There is a bit of a pleasant malt sweetness to the beer. The taste is not as good as the aroma. It is a bit thin, with a mild malt flavor. It doesn’t taste light, however. Definitely lacking in the hops department. I suppose this would be good if I were in Croatia, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy one here, except to add another country to the list. (513 characters)

A: Pours a clear golden color with a big head that fades quickly to bits of lacing.

S: Aroma of malt sweetness, grain and just a bit musty.

T: Taste of malt sweetness and grain. No real bitterness and a fairly clean finish.

F: Light body, smooth and bland.

O: Another standard Euro Lager in an ocean of lagers. (317 characters)

Well since I needed a beer from Croatia I decided to grab a sixer! Truth be told I had been considering purchasing this for a while and finally decided to since pickings were slim at the grocery store. Aroma is faint and consists primarily of nothing, not offensive but far from appealing. Pours a straw golden into my glass with a quickly diminishing head and some sticky lacing. The mouthfeel is solid, slightly creamy with a good finish and pleasant aftertaste. The flavor is also solid, nothing spectacular. In a sense it is typical euro lager that is slightly more mellow than say Grolsch or Heinekin. I enjoy the taste, but overall par at best. (650 characters)

Came in a brown 500ml bottle with best before date stamped on back label. Is an average clear straw hue, big white head upon pour that recedes to a thin ring. Smells of very light malt and metal. Metallic flavour is most predominant as well, a bit of graininess, it's pretty dry though, aftertaste of iron. The mouthfeel is rather watery. Actually my mouth tastes like I just sucked on some loose change. I'll be passing on this stuff next time. (445 characters)

Ho hum euro lager from a part of the country formerly known as Yugoslavia. Pours pale straw with a short-lived white head. Little discernable aroma apart from some adjunct graininess and a faint floral note or two. Taste is not very pronounced. Not offensive just light and sweet. Little body and no finish to speak of. Might do well if served on a hot day as a quencher before you drink something nicer. (404 characters)

Karlovacko is an average European Lager. Nothing exceptional to report, nothing awful either.

Pours a bright golden color with a large, fizzy head that dissipates quickly. Slight hop aroma. Smooth mouth-feel, a bit over-carbonated, with clean malt and slightly predominant hops. (279 characters)

First Beer I tried from the Balkins. When I saw this at the store the other day, I picked it up almost immediatly.

The reasoning behind my average score is because this is a very average beer. Not bad but not to great. This is a very light tasting beer, almost watery and heavily carbonated. There is a small hint of malt. Apperance and smell wise, meh. It looks like your average popular beer, not as exotic as expected.

Prehaps this beer tastes better on tap in Croatia, but the kind imported was only a bit different from dollar beers such as Carling. (560 characters)

500ml bottle poured into a dimpled mug. Best before on back 05 06.

Pours a nice, clear gold colour. White head is 1/8 inch and just sits level with the top of my mug. Head quickly reduces to a very thin ring around the edge. Head is completely gone after a couple sips.

Nose is sweet with touches of malt and corn. A faint grassiness is the background.

Taste is fairly mild at the start. Slightly sweet with a hint of malt then after the carbonation rush the hops kick in to a mild bitter skunk/grassy hops finish. Aftertaste is dry and mildly bitter.

Light-medium body with moderate carbonation.

Pretty much a run of the mill pilsener. Not enough malt spine and the hops lacks some bite, both of which would make this better. All-in-all it's not bad, but nothing to write home about either. (807 characters)

Pours a clear golden. One finger head, but not much retention,or lacing. Aroma is of faint yeast, and malts. Weak at best. Body is thin, and watery with some carbionation. Taste is sweet, and bready with a honey edge that is not unpleasent. Not my favorite style, but if it's yours, give it a try. (293 characters)
