A: Pours a crystal clear medium yellow in color with light amounts of active visible carbonation rising slowly from the bottom of the glass and some faint golden yellow highlights. The beer has a half finger tall fizzy white head that quickly reduces to a couple of small patches of very thin film and a very thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of slightly sweet corn adjuncts and grainy malts.

T: Upfront there are very light flavors of grainy malts and corn adjuncts which add just a hint of sweetness. No perceptible hop flavors and only a hint of bitterness.

M: Light bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly watery.

O: This is a beer for people that do not really enjoy the flavor/aroma of beer. Very light in flavor and mouthfeel though it is easy to drink.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Maybe I'm too much of a ticker these days... Regardless, this stuff pours a clear pale sallow (wow) topped by a half-finger of short-lived off-white foam. The nose comprises sweet corn and mild wheat. Wait, a Rolling Rock bottle that wasn't skunked!? The hell!? Not gonna argue... The taste holds notes of old corn, funky wheat, and hard water. The body is pretty light, with a light moderate carbonation and a slickly watery feel. Overall, a sad, weak little beer. 'Nuff said, really.

I am an avid drinker of light lagers, and am of the opinion that this is one of the contemporary beer industry's least developed genres. Perhaps this is due to an overwhelming disdain for the style among beer connoisseurs. Perhaps it is because brewers themselves feel limited by its constraints. Whatever the case, it seems to this reviewer that producing a light, crisp, refreshing lager with a balance of flavors ought to be a challenge that the industry can meet.

Rock Light pours nicer than expected. A typically light golden body supports a foam that is frothier than any I have seen on a light beer.

The nose is pleasant. Very lightly toasted biscuit is complemented by a hint of floral hops and lager yeast.

The taste of this beer is fuller than I expected. Its slightly bitter and yeasty hang distinguishes it from other light lagers, which typically have little more than a watery aftertaste with light notes of sweet toasted malt. Rock Light's flavor is sweet, too, but is also more complex than most beers in the style.

The frothy mouthfeel of this beer stands out among light beers, which are usually excessively carbonated to the point of being offensively gassy and sharp.

Rock Light stands out among American light lagers. I can understand why it has received such low ratings on BeerAdvocate.com: This beer cannot stand up against the kind of robust, complex, flavorful beers that we all love. But this beer does not pretend to offer the drinker that kind of experience. This beer is designed to be a mild, light complement to a meal or to quench one's thirst on a very hot summer afternoon when even pale lagers and ales weigh too heavily on the palate. If this is what you are looking for, you will be hard pressed to find a beer that delivers as well as this one.

Aroma is - well, it’s weak but at least it’s malty and not watery. Not at all impressive. It pours a wan clear straw yellow with a fairly thick white head that fizzles out quickly. Flavor is actually better than I expected - unlike most light beers I have tried, it really does taste like beer. It’s malty, and that’s about it - although it doesn’t seem watery. Body and fizz both leave something to be desired. Good only when compared to other light beers - otherwise fuhgeddaboudit.
