Using a time-honored recipe with only the finest malted barley and blend of hops, Rolling Rock is a classic American lager that is as well-known for its distinctive, full-bodied taste as it is for its craftsmanship, heritage and painted green bottle.

Full-flavored, with a subtle bite. Light-to-medium body and color. Brewed with only the choicest ingredients; a perfect blend of pale barley malt, rice and corn.

First review honors to a beer I've bought plenty of bottles, cans, and pints of. I'm a fan of green-bottled skunky beers, and while this one isn't as strong in scent, it goes down smooth and is best ice cold for those hot summer days. Obviously not a high-class, complex brew. It came from small town Latrobe after all. And even after it was bought out by InBev and watered down/cheapened even more, it still hits the spot. It's almost more a soda than a beer. But damn if it's not a guilty pleasure. It's a beer my pops drank; so like father, like son I guess.

For the record:

L: Pours a clear, golden straw color. Almost like water with tint of yellow. One of the clearest, lightest-colored beers I've ever seen. Lots of bubbles, giving it a soda-like appearance at first pour. A generous inch of foam that dissipates in seconds.

S: Less "skunky" than other green-bottled Euro beers. Cereal grain, grass, corn, rice, apple, some malty sweetness.

T: Very balanced for a cheap AAL. Watered-down sweet corn that's been sitting around a bit is the best way to describe it. When it's ice cold (put it in the freezer for a few), it's crisp and has that sweet start up front but a nice sharp, carbonated bite at the end.

M: Super light and thin, high-carbonation, almost like drinking a soda. Slightly dry finish. The sweetness doesn't give a thick, syrupy mouthfeel that other beers tend to have. Makes it easy to down a 6-pack (or more) in one session.

O: A simple beer above any Bud or Coors, in my book. Not the best, not the worst. It doesn't hang around to kick you in the ass the next morning like a PBR or Schlitz would, so that's a plus. A very drinkable, very cheap beer. $4.99/6-pack, $12.99/18-pack, $18 for a case in AZ? Come on. On hot summer days or any day, I'll always appreciate and this have on hand.
Cheers.

Poured from a can into a pilsner glass.

Look: Thick, foamy white head. Decent retention, especially for the style. Very pale yellow. Active carbonation.

Smell: Generic cheap beer with that touch or sweetness. Very slight funk. Overall, not much going on in the nose.

Taste: Very refreshing. Quite a bit malty. White bread. This is actually more flavorful than one might expect based off of the color and nose. There's just enough character to not be completely watery but also works well as a background beer.

Feel: This is where I think this beer falls apart. It's refreshing but not really crisp enough. Very light bodied, as expected.

Overall: An underrated light beer, in my opinion. Beer snobs will hate it but I think it's a good example of the style. Pairs well with pizza.

Rolling Rock is a classic that is not worth writing home about. Even in Pennsylvania where its roots are it is grossly overshadowed by the more popular Yuengling. It’s not a bad beer for its price point, but again it’s nothing more than the feel and taste of malty carbonated club soda.

From the can, it pours a clear light yellow color with a nice white head that soon diminishes to a nice ring and lacing. Light scent of grainy malt. Taste follows nose, with a very light taste overall. Medium to light body.

Easy drinking brew, however. Probably great after a hot day!

Beer looks great in a glass except if one notices the extreme carbonation which usually in my experience said a it has a bad body feel which it does. Not much flavor although not bad tasting either. Like drinking a good club soda. Never had it before won’t buy it again though. There are other cheap beers out there like Hamms, Lions Head and others that have better flavour.

Used to be one of my go to beers, a long time ago. Pours out very light golden, zero head, minimal carbonation. Looks flat. Faint corn/cereal aroma, sweet adjunct grain taste, watery mildly sweet finish.

Was thinking that this one would be a tolerable cheap beer. Not so. Consistency of water. Terrible. Hardly any carbonation. Not worth spending your money on. Buy Rainier instead!

I could smash these all day if it wasn't for the aftertaste. Cheap and light. Barely any carbonation

Short on cash at the time, cheap price, so thought what the heck. Best served ice cold. Beer you drink in the locker room after a sweaty hockey game. The "extra pale" was a warning I should have heeded. It's a lite American beer, thats it.

12oz bottle. Code on label reads '23046 CH2338'.
Clear, pale straw colored body. Thin finger of white head, turns to lingering cap and ring. Leaves behind tendrils of lacing.
Aroma of grain malts, including corn and barley. Slight whiff of floral hops.
Taste is light malts, including corn. Slight green apple fruit. Sweet overall.
Less than medium mouth feel. Wet and clean. Very good carbonation.
Thirst quenching but very thin on the flavor profile. No skunk from the green bottle, but not much of a bite.

Hard to find in SC so when I found it in total wine I picked up a coule 18 packs. aBig mistake. This used to be a unique and tasty brew. Something has changed. Now it seems hardly better than light beers. Very little smell, very mild taste. The only thing good is that its cold. Id rather have beer with some taste, thats cold. Just my opinion.

Presentation: 12 ounce can poured into a pint glass.

Look: light golden color with average head.

Smell: sweet, caramelized malt aroma. Moderate hops aroma and minor citrus aroma.

Taste: strong hops flavor, and minor citrus flavor. Nice floral aftertaste. The flavor is much more distinct than I expected.

Feel: ordinary mouthfeel. Feels like any other American lager.

Overall: this beer is prominent flavors. The taste is more complex than many other “cheap” beers. Very easy to drink. If you’re looking for a “cheap” beer with a unique flavor, this beer is for you.
