A brand new Whole Foods that is absolutely enormous, one of the biggest in the state. To go along with the large store is a very large craft beer selection. They get Stone (which is not normally distributed to Santa Clara county) and recently started carrying Russian River. They get most of the rare releases (Abyss, FW12, etc) and seasonal releases. Very large import selection as well, including a great selection of Belgians. All of their beer is in coolers which is a big plus. Since Whole Foods and BevMo are really the only places in Santa Clara County to get good beer, I would encourage people to select Whole Foods. They care for the beer more by storing it properly which Bevmo does not. I highly recommend this place for Silicon Valley BA's.

This is the best Whole Foods Market as far as beer goes. If they independently branched out the beer section, I would still go here all the time. Its phenomenal. I love Japanese beer, because it reminds me of home and let me tell you, its quite difficult to get Japanese craft beer around here. But this Whole Foods carries a variety of Japanese craft beers that I enjoy very much. That alone to me tells me that this stores beer buyer knows his beer. Aside from that personal bias, the selection is phenomenal. If I wasnt looking for a rare limited release, this is my go-to place.

Large Whole Foods, with a busy beer aisle, adjacent to their wine section. Most of the inventory is chilled, though the refrigeration section is bordered by stacked cases of items on sale. Rotation of the non refrigerated stock seems pretty quick, as I often see different beers featured here.
As others have noted, the variety is quite good, with Russian River, Stone, Ballast Point, Sierra, Bear, Lagunitas, Drakes, Port Brewing, Deschutes, Dogfish, Mikeller, and a large selection of Belgians being prominent. The staff is almost always present and available to offer advice, let you know what new items they have just received, and to give opinions.
All in all, this plus Bobby's Liquor's in Santa Clara are the top spots in the Sunnyvale/Cupertino/MV/SC area.

Biggest Whole Foods I've ever seen, surprised that the beer aisle was not much bigger than some of the other Whole Foods in the are
Still, very impressed with the selection - ton of Lost Abbey, some Port Brewing, even Stone: all very surprising for up here. Plenty of the standards such as Sierra Nevada, and it seemed like people could get nearly any level of beer they wanted. Passed on the Rogue dry-hopped Scotch Ale, but to be fair, had never seen it anywhere else
Nearly all the beer is chilled, with the exception of some six pack specials and a few others (Shmaltz on special) in front of the aisle. Plenty of space to navigate, which is always appreciated.
Not a must-stop for any Bay Area person, but definitely recommended for those in the South Bay.

This is the biggest Whole Foods that I have gone to. They have a very large beer selection. I was still able to grab a few bottles of Abacus when I can't seem to find it anywhere else. I was surprised to also be able to find Stone RIS before it's scheduled release.
The only knock on this place is it's beer specialist Keagan. This guy is kinda rude and seems like a total Dick. He also didn't seem to know much about the beers I asked about.
When I asked him when are they going to get Parabola and how much are they getting, his reply was in about 7-8 months from now even though the Firestone website says June 1st. When I told him about the pre- release party they had at the brewery last week, he seemed clueless.
I stated that it should be out in stores in the beginning or mid June. His reply was "That's not what Tony said". The real question here is, who the Fuck is Tony?

I was interested to see the beer selection in California's largest Whole Foods store (Cupertino). If it was bigger than the selection in Oakland or Los Altos, I'd be really impressed.
The beer fridge wasn't quite as large as those, so they didn't have quite as many beers. Still, the beer selection was very impressive, with many high quality beers you can't easily find elsewhere.
As with most Whole Foods, all the beer is kept in a cooler, with the exception of some specials they have on the floor. Also, all the beer has very reasonable prices.
It's definitely a quality selection for a grocery store. A very good place to buy beer if you live in this area. If you want a slightly better selection, check out the Whole Foods in Los Altos just 15 min north.

Keegan has been a full time beer guy at Whole Foods in Cupertino for about a month as I write this in October 2009. He is fully committed to improving the beer selection. He is keenly aware of his competition and believes that he can best even some of the well known names in the Bay Area. Already, he has put out four members of the Lips of Faith series, Lindemans Gueuze Cuvee Rene, Pliny the Elder, Black Butte XXI, Old Rasputin XII, and a host of other things I have seen nowhere else. He even has a comment board with a bunch of different choices to let you vote for your favorite brew to stock - Cantillon Gueuze caught my eye. I hope people start to pick up on his excellent work in time for Whole Foods corporate to appreciate it.
