On tap @ the Moosejaw Pizza & Brewing Company (Wisconsin Dells, WI) on 8/12/10. Served in a pint glass. This was actually listed as an APA with an ABV of 6.8%.

Pours a clear copper, with a finger of eggshell-white head. This retains with a thin creamy layer of forth, leaving some thick sticky lacing behind which rings the sides of the glass. The aroma is grassy and bitter with citrus peel and grapefruit, and some light tropical notes that, along with some bready grains, help sweeten the nose up some.

The taste some aggressiveness to it from the hops, with a bitter bite laying earthy rind and grapefruit accents down across the tongue. This is decently balanced by the malty notes of bread and caramel, which sit in the back and mix with lingering fruit to give this a tangy backend. The finish is dry, spicy, and warm. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and crisp feeling throughout with some slickness mixed in but I think that I'm getting just a little too much of that ABV working itself in here to. Nothing too distracting but it does hold the feel back some.

Yeah, this is definitely more of an APA here, with bright hop flavors and a lighter malt presence working well together. The only drawback is that ABV, which hangs its hat on the high side of the style and keeps this from feeling absolutely refreshing. Still pretty solid though and a good example of some of the more assertive stuff that they do put on here.

New offering from Moosejaw, sampled on a recent trip. Review from notes.

Reddish orange, lasting lace and retention. High clarity body, allowing the occasional rising bubbles of carbonation to be seen.

Good citrus aroma, not too expressive but definitely citrus.

Dry, hoppy citrus flavor, orange rind, with a medium bitterness. Slightly watery feel, could benefit from more body. Finishes dry also. Had a couple pints, probably the best thing i've had from Moosejaw. Hope they do an imperial sometime... maybe for the Taste?
