Without a doubt, The Pig is the best option for purchasing beer at Myrtle Beach, and is well worth the drive down if you're in North Myrtle. Their bottle selection is the second best I've seen in a grocery store (Bestway in Greensboro, NC is tops), and better than many beer and wine shops. They have recently added a small section of 12 oz. singles, so you can build your own sixer if you like. The focus is on American craft brews, but there is a decent selection of imports as well. There is a growler station with four taps, and there is usually at least one interesting option. I've has growlers of ST Choklat and Jahva, and they have had kegs from Foothills (including Sexual Chocolate), Founders, Bells, and DFH among others.

I did not factor the grocery store itself into my ratings, but it's a pretty nice store and their deli/prepared foods section has some pretty good offerings. There is also a Starbucks kiosk, which can be nice for the rest of the family. (970 characters)

Vibe - It's a grocery store, but it's the best display I've seen in a grocery store. Byrd is generous, knowledgeable and friendly.

Quality - Top notch in cleanliness, service, and selection.

Service - See above. Byrd is the man. If there's ever a TV show called, "beer store revival", he should be the dude that trains the staff.

Selection - I made a 2 hour round trip 3 times in two weeks from NC to make sure I didn't miss anything. Came home very happy. You won't find anything better in Myrtle. (502 characters)

This is exactly the type of place I like to buy beer at --great selection, great people, and a local, high quality grocer feel that totally destroys your typical alcohol warehouse or bottle shop environment.

Byrd is an awesome guy--completely helpful, connected with the beer scene in Myrtle Beach, and has pulled stuff from the back he just got in for us a few times. Hundreds of choices well organized on shelves and in coolers. Six-tap growler station is typically very good, occasionally immense in terms of sheer awesomeness (KBS, Mexican Cake, Hopslam, Enjoy By, aged Evil Twin brews, draught only Allagash/Oskar Blues stuff, etc.). Byrd frequently gets new stuff and rotates his bottle and tap selections. Prices have been consistently fair--good, in fact, especially compared to shops in my home state. Lots of nice sales, too.

Here's a sample of what I picked up the last time I was down in South Carolina:

COAST Boy King DIPA (growler!)
2013 Southern Tier Choklat (also growler!)
Evil Twin Imperial Doughnut Break (also growler!)
Stone/Beachwood/Heretic Unapologetic IPA (growler? oh yeah!)
Maine Beer Co. Lunch IPA
Westbrook Citrus Ninja Exchange DIPA
Trappistes Rochefort 10
Bell's Two Hearted Ale (cans!)

Awesome stuff. Bottom line: if the brewery you're looking for distributes in SC, the Pig will most likely stock 'em (or they'll get 'em). I've also struck up conversations with really cool, down-to-earth beer peeps here, and I've never left disappointed. Hard to beat that. (1,496 characters)
