I made it to this legendary Piggly Wiggly this past August while vacationing in Myrtle the same way that every other BA is probably gonna find themselves upon this massive selection in the South. I guess the co-owner and operator Mike Byrd has a serious interest in not only crafts but also the their massive wine selection.

This place is tucked into a new commercial district called the Market Common, there's also a Gordon Biersch right down the road. By the way as an FYI, my brother and I went once and missed their store hours by a half an hour. Call and check the time, I was thinking up all night grocery store? Anyway I didn't make it back here until the night before I was leaving back to Ohio.

I went in evening no real service to speak of, other then the friendly checkout girl with a passion for the wine selection. Also I spoke with a guy stocking yogurt, and he gave me a little back ground on the guy who created the selection about his passion and connection to the craft brewing community.

Stellar selection, I got Stone Self Righteous, Smuttynose Saison, Ballast Point Dorado Double IPA, Ston Cali Belgique, Ommegang Biere de Mars, and Hoppin' Frog Barrel Aged Boris the Crusher (holy shit!!!) A beer that I can't even get living in Ohio, never seen a bottle yet up my way though I know it's now in Pittsburgh. I spent well over a hundred bucks and got an Allagash and Ommegang chalice as well.

I hear this is going to be a takeout growler estabilishment in the near future, with a small but high quality selection of drafts. Very nice I hope it works in the grocery setting, I wish this could exist up my way.

This is exactly the type of place I like to buy beer at --great selection, great people, and a local, high quality grocer feel that totally destroys your typical alcohol warehouse or bottle shop environment.

Byrd is an awesome guy--completely helpful, connected with the beer scene in Myrtle Beach, and has pulled stuff from the back he just got in for us a few times. Hundreds of choices well organized on shelves and in coolers. Six-tap growler station is typically very good, occasionally immense in terms of sheer awesomeness (KBS, Mexican Cake, Hopslam, Enjoy By, aged Evil Twin brews, draught only Allagash/Oskar Blues stuff, etc.). Byrd frequently gets new stuff and rotates his bottle and tap selections. Prices have been consistently fair--good, in fact, especially compared to shops in my home state. Lots of nice sales, too.

Here's a sample of what I picked up the last time I was down in South Carolina:

COAST Boy King DIPA (growler!)
2013 Southern Tier Choklat (also growler!)
Evil Twin Imperial Doughnut Break (also growler!)
Stone/Beachwood/Heretic Unapologetic IPA (growler? oh yeah!)
Maine Beer Co. Lunch IPA
Westbrook Citrus Ninja Exchange DIPA
Trappistes Rochefort 10
Bell's Two Hearted Ale (cans!)

Awesome stuff. Bottom line: if the brewery you're looking for distributes in SC, the Pig will most likely stock 'em (or they'll get 'em). I've also struck up conversations with really cool, down-to-earth beer peeps here, and I've never left disappointed. Hard to beat that.

The Piggly Wiggly is a diamond in the rough! It's a great place to pick up some beer when we're at the beach house. For a grocery store it has a great selection. It's not as good as some beer stores visitors may be used to in other parts of the country, but it is impressive for this area. I love the growler station, there's always something new to try. They do a good job getting beers that other places don't stock.

The Best Selection in Myrtle Beach. They have so many bottles to choose from. I always go in thinking I will get 3 or 4 bottles but come out with nearly 10 bottles.

I love the sour selection. Jolly Pumpkin and New Belgium. Im never walking out disappointed. The rotating Taps are awesome as well. Never dull selections there!

Living in Seattle and here at Myrtle Beach is a big transition and sometimes hard to find good brew in Myrtle Beach. Although, ThePig at Market Commons has changed that!

Thanks Byrd

Best beer selection in the Grand Strand!!! Always has what's new and hard to get, Mike has a wealth of knowledge to help anyone find the perfect brew! The growler station is way above par and reasonably priced, only the best of the best at all tomes.

Fantastic selection, would not have thought I would find anything near this good at the SC beach. Just about any Belgian you would want (including the whole Ommegang family), a huge assortment of microbrews and of course all of the usual Coors/Molson, AB/InBev stuff.

This is the best selection in town hands down. Mike does a great job of getting quality beer into Myrtle Beach. Don't go anywhere else....you'll find it here!!! And oh, don't forget to check out the growler selections. Have you EVER been to a Piggily Wiggily and come out with a growler of quality brew? Thanks Mike, for all your hard work!!!

Byrd's Beer at the Pig: The best place in Myrtle Beach to find quality beer and craft brews. They have an excellent selection and a nice variety. They have the beer you won't find anywhere else in town. Typical six-packs and four-packs, as well as individual bottles and even a Growler Station.

Assistance is readily available, if needed, but these guys will let you browse without breathing down your neck. And honestly, with the variety they have, you're going to need time to look.

Excellent layout and appearance - the theme of the beer section blends in with the upscale look of this particular grocery store.

Piggy Wiggly is the place to be in Myrtle Beach

Atmosphere is that of a fancy, upscale grocery store. The beer is located in the back corner and 90% of it is in coolers. Floor plan is open and easy to navigate. The area is well maintained and up to date.

As for service, I did have one employee come by and ask if we needed any help locating anything. I also had no problem finding someone to pour a growler for me as well.

Selection was pretty impressive. I walked out with Founders Backwoods Bastard, an Ommegang gift pack, some Victory, Great Divide Yeti, a Bells Double Cream Stout growler, among other things. Most beers are 6pack only except for the bombers. They do have about 30-40 in the build your own 6pack shelf.

Overall they will definitely have something for everyone. If your in Myrtle, make this your first stop.

Very respectable selection and love that they have a growler fill station. They probably do have 600+ beers (as a number of people have said), though some of them are the standard grocery store crap that you wouldn't have at many good beer stores (how many flavors of Smirnoff Ice really need to be made?). Regardless, they have a good selection, especially for a grocery store. COAST Boy King was the highlight of the trip, evidently they were near the end of the keg and had only had it in 3 days.
