Poured a golden almost clear color with almost no head or lace. Skunky smell probably due to the green bottle and had the taste of a poor German pilsner. Not much on the mouthfeel dept. either. A very drinkable beer for the average American beer drinker but not something for the educated palate IMO................CHEERS

Filled up growler at New Beer on 10/29/11. Review from notes:

Poured into Sam Adams pint glass.

A - Poured slightly hazy bright orange color with medium white head that quickly dissipated leaving light lacing around the glass.

S - Grains with citrus zest and light floral scents.

T - Grains with light amount of malts and light honey sweetness. Has a slight bitter citrus finish.

M - Light bodied with high carbonation.

O - Very crisp and refreshing but resembles more of a pilsner than oktoberfest. Other than that a good brew.

Appears to be a pale marzen. Poured into a Wurzburger mug, a large head is produced over the pale yellow/orange body. The smell is like marzen-llite, a little biscuit-y. The taste is crisp and less sweet than your typical marzen, hops are a little more noticeable in this dry take on the style. With a velvety mouthfeel and just the right carbonation, the beer drinks nicely.

this is a great festbier.

pours a bright golden color with thick head. notes of rich maltiness. insanely refreshing and quaffable.

i wasn't a big fan of "pale" marzens before, but lately i've been absolutely loving them. the sessionability of this beer is unbelievable. don't get me wrong, amber marzens are great, but ones like these are brews you can slam down all day (and isn't that what oktoberfest is all about?)

On draft at the Waterfront, Brooklyn.

Poured a medium to dark straw hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a soft bready malt and a musty hop.

The taste consisted of soft malts, a light caramel and fresh baked bread. Noble hops cleaned the flavor a bit.

The mouthfeel was toward the lighter side of the style.

Overall a tasty and light bodied Octoberfest. Very quaffable.

My first tasting this marzen prior to the Bronx Ale House's Oktoberfest starting the day following.

A_Head was finger plus of soapy white with golden tints and a lighter color than I would expect from the style.

S. The nose was full of bread, grain and Saaz.

T. Following the nose with a crisp cracker biscuit followed by hops and a quick bitter end. Dashes of malty and sweetness but overall more and the bitter side.

M: Light and crisp.

D: The ligher side of the spectrum and good benchmark for the style that does not want to overload you. Nice bready beer for the most part with mild buckering bite at the end.

I've been trying to take advantage of the availability of Octoberfest beers these days although it is not my favorite style. This is among the better ones as it is lighter. Golden copper color with great carbonation and aroma. Nice flavor and easy to drink, perhaps too easy.

Enjoy this beer if you see it on draft.

On draft at Home Tavern in Chicago, served in a dimpled BBK mug. The bartender was drinking Stuttgarter Hofbräu Volksfestbier, but told me I had to drink this since the keg cost over $100. Lucky me ;)

Golden color with a soapy head that fluffed up over the top, momentarily defying gravity. The foam trickled down the side in slow motion, like a beer commercial. Aroma was a little grainy, pretty light and nondescript. Flavor was light and biscuity, buttered bread and dry saltine cracker with an easy bitter finish. The body was light and very drinkable, almost too much so. It was finished in no time, leaving crescent rings of lace in the empty glass. This was a serviceable festbier, lighter than most and well put together.

On tap at Max's yesterday.

Light orange with a thin white head. Retention is poor, but the color and clarity make up for it, though. The nose is rich with reserved bitterness. Malt character is complex, with a beautiful blend of honey, perfume, sugar and brown sugar. Light in body, this beer opens with a mild hop bite and all the malt complexity that the nose alludes to. Great balance between all the flavors, this is great. The dry and mildly bitter finish is great, and thoroughly enjoyable, making for a very drinkable beer.

On tap at Mahaffey's last night.

The beer pours a solid gold color with pretty good head retention and lacing. I don't get a lot on the nose, just some light sweet malt and bitterness. On the palate, the flavors are pretty nice. There is some very nice sweet malt in this one, giving it something of a baked apple and melon flavor. There is just enough light citrus to back up the malty presence in this beer, which adds to the enjoyment. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and drinkability is exceptional. This beer is very easy to take, and the slightly reduced sweetness (for a marzen) ensures that there is no palate fatigue.

Although this beer falls well short of the lofty standard I've come to expect from Ayinger and Hacker Pschorr, nevertheless this is a very solid Oktoberfest marzen. Nicely done.

A_On the soapier end of the spectrum head wise. Liquid is golden with hints of brown. A bit too light for the style.

S. Rather mild. Some bread dough. Bits of sun dried grain. A little noble type hop

T. Sweet biscuits up front. Lots of medicinal hops at the end give this a very bitter finish. There is some pineapple estery quity as well. More malt comes through as this warms. Too hoppy perhaps

M_on the lighter side of medium.

D_This drinks as more of a Pilsener than a Marzen. This is very similar to the syles of some of the brewers(Hofbrau) in Munich rather than the more traditional ones(Spaten). Not a bad beer but not what I look for in an Oktoberfest.

Very light brown body with lively carbonation bubbles. Slight head, no lacing, almost no retention.

Smells pretty damn hoppy for an Oktoberfest, some malts come through in the background.

Tastes pretty hoppy too. Lots of grassy, earthy, spicy flavors along with a good amount of bitterness. Malt is an afterthought with some toffee and caramel notes.

Mouthfeel is very thin, almost watery.

Fairly drinkable, definitely not one of my favorite O-fest beers.

This is a pale copper in color with a somewhat hoppy aroma. It has a creamy malt body, but it tastes like a generic lager. Better than American macros, but it tastes like a stereotypical import lager. IMO, it is too hoppy and does not have enough maltiness to be an Octoberfest. It is drinkable, just not to style.
