Served in an authentic one liter dimpled glass at Wolff's Biergarten in Albany.

This beer was a brilliant straw color, clear and nice head which disapted rather qucikly.
Aroma was slightly malty, with a tinge of flowers.

Brilliant clear and crisp beer. Taste was malty with a sharp hop bitterness. A hint of sweetness. Slight honey notes

Mouthfeel is light bodied and spot on for the style. Finished dry and crisp.

This has got to be one of the most drinkable beers I have ever enjoyed. It tastes like I'll have another.

The rocky head gives off more malty nose than a north German Pils and more grassy floral hops than a Helles.

The flavor is spectacularly balanced between the sweet bread-like malt and spicy hops that finish with that lingering noble hop bitterness.

Just what a south German Pils should be. I like Rothaus Tannenzäpfle a touch more, but Würzburger Hofbräu is still an outstanding Pilsner, and more readily available here in the states.

Pours a clear light gold with a small, bone white head. Smell is remarkably similar to Pilsner Urquel: aromas of grassy hops, lemon citrus, a honey on a warm bagel. Taste-wise, this is one of the best pilsners I've ever had. It's chalk-full of flavors: a wonderful honeycomb sweetness balanced by zesty, lemony hops in such a way that that the interplay between bitter and sweet carries into the finish and makes you stare at the beer in wonder. I must have tried several dozen craft pilsners from several different countries by now, but this one takes the take. A top-notch beer.

Great pilsner!!!

Appearance - cloudy, light to medium golden in color, with light, 1/4 inch white head

Smell - sweet, floral notes

Taste - nice, crisp pilsner, not overly hopped, nice balance

Drinkability - nice balance, definitely would drink again, and could go through half a dozen or more pints in a session, no problem

Try this beer if you can find it.

The aroma has hay and grains with floral and grassy hops. The appearance is pale gold with a nice head. The flavor is like the aroma with a bit of the latex flavor that many euro pils seem to have. The palate is thin but well carbonated. Overall it's pretty typical for the style which is good if you happen to like this style.

A: Poured a cloudy, lemon-straw color capped off by a foamy white head.

S: some light malt and vegetables.

T: The flavor starts out with a light tartness of lemons backed by a decent grain bill that gives this some body. Overall the flavor was clean with some spicy herbal hopping and citrus notes. Leaves a nice sour malt and hop coating on the tongue.

M: moderate for a pils with a soft carbonation. Felt pretty nice.

D: Average drinkability, just not as crips or refreshing as one hopes per style.

Ordered a half liter at Zum Schneider in the East Village. It's a brilliant clear yellow with a tall white head.

This is a classic German pils, dry, hoppy, and with a distinct mineral taste and aroma. You can really taste the hard German water that shapes this beer. The malts are a dry bread and biscuit blend while the hops are peppery with a touch of earth. All in all a very tasty a drinkable beer. It went great with my sausage platter.

Had on tap at the Ratskeller in Wurzburg. I'm probably going to up its ratings a half point just for that. It is a deep gold with microscopic bubbles and a thick rocky head. Absolutely gorgeous. The smell is apricots and grass, but it has a metallic note that really knocks me off my game. The taste is surprisingly malty for a pilsner and very, very good. It has a spiced aftertaste and lingering notes of hops that makes me want more. It has a good body and very nice carbonation. I will drink this all day long. If I'm at the biergarten or on the square, you're not moving me until they shut the place down.

11.2 oz. green bottle > Pilsner glass

This is a totally clear yellow-gold color with only mild carboantion for this style. Looks a bit too mellow....the crown rises low and falls quick as a lacy-white sheeth.

Aroma's of: Gentle Bavarian yeast, sour...nut metallic(uh oh) Stale corn and fresh husks with a a cesar salad scent in the hops.

This has a thin, flat malt flavor that struggles to achieve crispy wheat...more like canned corn and stale bread! Metallic, sour yeast runs wild all over the place....nowhere to hide! There's a green peppers flavor to the hops, finishing with a white rice flavor.

Light, nearly crisp at first but a bit to lifeless to be refreshing. Not a great bottle.

Pours a golden straw color with a fluffy white head that fades quicky.

Aroma of herbal hops jump out along with the faint note of cooked veggies.

Very easy pils to drink. The hops are a little overpowered by the malts but nothing serious.

Good brew.

A_pours a clear straw with a soapy white head. Lacing is a strong sut here as is the slow but steady stream of bubbles. This what a pils should look like

S_grassy noble hops and a wierd sort of funk almost like a wet golden retriever

T_totally geared towards the hops. Strong grassy/medicinal hop presence overshadows the light cereal grains. Slight residual sweetness is a nice compliment. Slight skunkiness as well. Not enough to truly distract.

M_moderately creamy for the style. Lightly fizzy.

D_Very nice example of a German Pils. Strong dose of those central European hops shine through in this one.

Purs a clear yellow with a nice, foamy head. Gives off a nice citrusy aroma. Tastes lightly of malt and citrus with a good hop bite common amongst Bavarian pilsners. Mouthfeel is light with a level of carbonation to be expected form this style.

This is a classic example of a Bavarian pilsner. Pairs very well with bratwurst and sauerkraut.

I'm not a fan of Pils as I like more complex beers, but this beer I find fantastic. Here's why.

When poured it responds with some furious carbonation (nothing bad) which is actually a little entertaining to watch. It creates a prominant white resiliant head which leaves behind lots of lacing and caps the beautiful blonde color of this beer.

The only thing I can recall at the moment about the smell is that it had a very hoppy and almost biscuity nature to it in my opinion.

The smell is accompanied by a bitter and tart taste which lingers in the mouth for a quick minute. The mouthfeel is active due to the carbonation.

This is a great, clean, satisfying and refreshing pilsner. This is the type of beer i'd buy for a family member or friend at a bar.

I poured this beer into my tumbler at 50 degrees. The beer was a really pretty blonde beer with a white head. The beer also had good lacong qualities. The beer stunk to me and smelled skunky. The taste was bready with tomatoes and bitter tasting. It was nor refreshing and in fact dried my mouth out. I will not buy again.

Golden yellow, without any bubble. Beautiful hat of foam, white. Laces.
In the smell delicate herbal hop, hay.
The taste is bitter, very bitter, again with herbal hop.
The aftertaste too is well hopped, bitter, quite long in the mouth. Right dryiness.
Not too much to say, but ok. Bitter, dry, clean.

Serving: I poured the 11,2 ounce bottle into a pilsner glass and washed this brew down with a cornbeef reuben on rye. Aw . . . heaven!!

A: Pours a translucent golden brown with plenty of beautiful tiny bubbles working their way up the glass all the way to the end. 3cm of head remained for a long while, leaving a nice lacing. This beer looks like it will please you and quench your thirst!

S: Hoppy, about what you'd expect from a pilsner . . . I can't wait to taste it.

T: Great hop character (those bavarian hops didn't travel far), walnuts, and a sour grape-fruit like aftertaste.

M: Silightly acidic (not to much) and the carbonation lingers on to the aftertaste.

D: I could have about 5 more of these; very refreshing and perfect for a lunchtime treat with a Reuben on rye.

Notes: This is a great German Pilsener! Nothing extraordinary, just the perfection of everything ordinary. I've found it's hard to convince my American buddies that pilsners can be more than frat party specials; this is great place to start!

The beer pours a luminous gold with a generous bright white creamy head that lingers long, after its final demise; the lace forms a velum like sheet, to circumnavigate the glass. Nose has a soapy malt sweetness, citrus like in its crispness, pleasant to sniff. Start is modestly sweet, light bitter bite at the back, top is light to medium in feel. Finish has a sparkling acidity, the hops delectable in their spicy bite, quite dry aftertaste, and a fine drinking beer that would definitely make a nice session beer.

Poured from a 12-ounce bottle, was a little cloudy with a great deal of carbonation and lacing. Nice hop taste that stick with you. Better than some of the more popular and famous German pilsners I've tried. A good choice for the price ($8.99 for a six pack)

Poured a light golden with a big, creamy/fluffy white head. Lots of small carbonation seen rising slowly.

Aroma is sweet, somewhat flowery with malt underlying. Light hops and some slight grassy aroma.

Taste is sweet with light flavors and some hops. The bitter/dry finish dominates.

Mouthfeel is light and cleansing.

Overal, an OK brew. Finish is too bitter/dry for me [for the style] but it was still quite drinkable. Certainly worth a taste.

Ours straw, clear with white laced head.

Nose is slightly hoppy and fairly clean.

Palate is a traditional, dry & crisp pils taste. Nicely balanced by some spice in the hops.

Finish is rather clean and refreshing. Excellent accompaniment to pretzels and authentic mustard I would imagine, but good enough to imbibe on its own.

Poured a medium straw hue with a two finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a a sharp noble hop spice and a bready malt.

The taste was upfront leafy noble hop with a complementary grainy malt. Nice lingering bitterness.

The mouthfeel was clean and a bit lighter than average for the style.

Overall a nice standard pils Tasty and highly drinkable.

This pilsner gives off the typical hints of bitterness, closely mocking the fragrances of freshly mown hay and a slightly lemony aroma too.

This brew pours with a lot of carbonation and produces about a two and a half inch thick head, which is brilliantly white. The head retains for a very long time. I believe this is due to the fact I'm drinking it in Germany. Normally imports in America don't seem to retain head so well. This is likely due to oxidizationThe body is golden and crystal clear.

This tastes very crisp and clean, but has a weird stone like finish to it

Overall this is a very clean and well balanced brew. Good bbq beer.

When I pour this beer into my beloved Prima Pils glass, I get a decent one-finger white head that falls quickly. The body is a hazy yellow gold. The lacing is quite slick, having little staying power. The nose is erbal, and slightly metallic - telltale signs of edelhopfen. There's not much to it, though. The taste is mellow, with only a mild hop bitterness, and some cereal sweetness. The mouth has quite a bit of carbonation, but perhaps an over-thick body. This beer doesn't really offend in any way, but isn't a standout, either. That said, I could certainly enjoy putting a few of these away if it were the best available, but my favorite Pils remains Prima.

Purchased at Eagle River Liquors in Fulton, Illinois.

Excellent pour! Dark, hazy champagne gold with a large and remarkably retentive rocky white head.

Smells a little dull, big grain, strong fruit esters, and only a little bit of hops.

Tastes as it smells. Maybe a bit old, but as there's no dating system on the bottle I can't say for sure. Tastes like big, huge fruit--plums, apricots--against light, flowerly pilsener grain. The hops are faint but there, especially present as it warms. Slightly above average.

Drinkable. If I can try a fresher bottle, I will.

From notes of 08/20/2006 visit to The Map Room, Chicago IL.

Presentation- a large Wurzburger Haubrau stien

Rich golden in color with amazing clarity. The head was a sudsy and white in color, lace was pretty good for the style.
The smell was subtle herbal hops, a grassiness, faint sweet malt, and light cirtusy notes.
The taste was lightly sweet malt with an herbal, almost grainy hint. Crisp, light mouthfeel.
Light to moderate carbonation. Light bodied.
This one is a bit on the subtle side, which actually could be the whole point. Light and easy drinking with good flavor and balance.
I also noted that quite a few of the other patrons were drinking this one too.
For sure worth a try.
