Appearance: Moderately hazy, golden body with a large, long-lasting, white head.

Smell: Lightly toasty, lightly tangy malted wheat replete with the usual, expected notes of clove, unripe bananas, and lemon zest. Also some sweetish flourishes of honey candy.

Taste: Toasty, tangy wheat with some sugary tastes of light caramel and wildflower honey. Light touch of spicy cloves and cinnamon. Faint hint of citrus. Fruity bananas. Fairly low Noble hop character and bitterness. The malty sweetness bounces back soundly until you hit the drying, lightly crisp, yeasty finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-high carbonation.

Drinkability: Fairly good, fairly enjoyable hefeweizen with a well-balanced, refreshing taste. Let's be sure to do this again sometime, J. Echter!

Had this beer right before I drank the Dunkel version of it. This one poured out as a hazy golden color with a fluffy white head on top. The smell of the beer gives off the typical banana and clove aromas that a true hefeweizen should. The taste of the beer has the soft flavors of wheat and grains with just a hint of lemon in there. The mouthfeel of the beer was smooth, lightly carbonated and refreshing. Overall it's a pretty good brew.

On-tap at Home Tavern in Chicago.

2 glasses, served in a Konig-Ludwig glass, maybe a 12 oz.?

Opaque orange, frothy lacing. Head tries to escape the rim of the glass. Banana aroma, slightly bready and sweet. Spicy clove undertone.

Rich malty flavors, sweet with a very smooth body. Extremely silky, it goes down very easy. More banana and light citrus flavors. Mild bitterness. To me this is a quintessential Hefeweizen. Top notch.

500ml bottle into a nonic.

Cloudy straw yellow, just barely translucent. The body is topped by two fingers of white foam that slowly settles to a 1/2 inch cap.

Bready, doughy aromas greet the nose first. Clove, a little apple. Banana-like esters are reigned-in but still present.

The palate opens with flavors of wheat and whole grain bread, followed by apple, lemon and faint banana. Spiciness emerges in the dry finish, leaving a lingering flavor of spiced apple cider.

This beer uses a fantastic yeast strain, it provides a perfect level of fruity, spicy flavors. Many hefeweizens cloy the palate with excessive esters and phenols, but that's not the case here.

A - Poured out a cloudy, golden color with some orange highlights. It had a large (three finger), pillowy, white head of bubbly foam.

S - It smelled of clove, banana, and sweet fruits. There were also strong notes of yeast and wheat.

T - It tasted much like the smell only weaker. Clove, banana and wheat were the dominant flavors. There was a spicy yeast bite.

M - It was crisp and very sharp with a dry finish. A light to medium-bodied beer.

D - This is a very nice hefe. I'm glad I found it in Milwaukee.

Carefully poured it's a surprisingly clear yellow-gold, however, a yeast swirl towards the end of the bottle will bring on the orange-cast and haziness that's desired. The bright white head is creamy and tight. It holds exceptionally well, buoyed by an effervescent carbonation that continually adds to its foundation. It maintains a solid surface covering to the end, and leaves very nice sheets of lace. The aroma is lightly fruity (with some green banana, apple, maybe berries) and sweetish with some bubblegum and light caramel. The body is light with a very fine and lightly effervescent carbonation that caresses the tongue before becoming luxuriously creamy and smooth. Very nice! It almost appears as if the body is fuller because of the creaminess. The flavor starts with some gently tangy malt and fruit; becomes sweeter and more malty with some banana as it crosses the palate; gives a light flourish of clove-like spice just before the swallow; and displays soft bubblegum in the finish along with some drying bitterness, a very light smokey phenolic and some gentle clove. Really nicely done! It's exceptionally well-balanced with a good amount of character and a great drinkability. Well worth trying.

Presentation: Sleek 16 oz brown euro style bottle, no freshness date.

Appearance: With this sample the yeast was swirled and decanted into the glass. Very cloudy pale orange with a creamy white lace.

Smell: Soft oily clove on the nose, fruity and lively with hints of earthy yeast.

Taste: Medium bodied that is meshed well with a marvelously textured mouth feel. Light lemon twang with a very evident snappy spicy clove are followed by warming fruity esters and a fresh baked cracker malt flavour. Hop bitterness is nearly non-existent which is perfect for the style. An earthy yeast character picks up the finish and lends a nutty flavour.

Notes: A little robust and lively, a hard Hefeweizen to beat. Goes really well with a smoked ham and havarti with spicy mustard on marbled rye … a.k.a. a great lunch time brew.

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a weizen glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color, with a large white head that fades very slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of bananas, wheat, spices, light malts and a touch of hops.

T: The taste is very well-balanced with flavors of wheat, bananas and a touch of spice. The malt character is thin and there's a mild hops presence, but everything seems to mix together nicely. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and very smooth, light-to-medium body, medium-to-high carbonation, finish is very clean.

D: Very tasty, goes down quite easily, not too filling, mild kick, excellent representation of style, this is a very good beer to drink a lot of throughout the whole evening.

Pours cloudy straw gold with minimal head bit decent lacing on the way down. Nose is wheaty, yeasty, and with a very distinct tar like character. Underneath there is a citric tone to it as well, but it is overpowered by the other fragrances. Flavor is smooth and even with a yeasty wheat flavor that is heavy on lemony citrus. Feel is very nice. Silky smooth with a lower level of appropriate carbonation. Highly drinkable. Damn good. Worth trying.

Pours bronze with 4+ fingers of fluffed up cream colored head. Good head retention & average lacing

S: Band aids & a little fruittyness

T: Band aids& fruittyness, plus a little bit of salty taste up front. Lemony hops, tartness & a little banana & cloves shows up as this warms. Finishes tart, peppery (almost rye-like) with juicy-fruit gum & a little grapefruitty hops

MF: Light bodied, medium carbonation & little slickness

Drinks easy, a real nice hefe to session on, nothing earth-shattering here, but solid none the less

No date on the bottle but I'll assume its relatively new. Working my way through the hefes pretty well at this point.

Beer served in a wheat beer glass, 0.5L. Beer is dark yellow / straw and completely hazy. Forms an insanely thick white head of medium and small bubbles that eventually falls away to a two fingered head and leaves a lot of lacing on the glass.

Aroma is slightly sweet but lacking the esters department. They are there but muted, still smells fine.

Good, slightly bitter but there are some nice fruity esters in the palate and in a slight aftertaste. Very nice. Beer finishes wet and starts wet with a mild sweetness up front. I am really enjoying this beer a lot. Drinkability high and mouthfeel good. There isn't much carbonation on the palate but its ok. Body is a little thin. A very good example.

A: Huge 3 finger fizzy head fades semi slowly w/ a nice fluff. Super hazy wheaty golden pale yellow color.

N: Bavarian wheat, lots of nice wheat malts, light spicy and banana, touch of grassy floral hops.

T: Bavarian hefe again! Wheat, light malts, some banana and darker fruit, almost a fig taste, slight creamy, almost light Belgian candi sugar, light and fizzy with a slight chewy malt, and some richness.

M: Lighter but rich, tons of carbonation.

F: Pretty dry with lingering wheat, fruit with banana and fig, touch of stickiness, and a touch of orange and citrus.

Poured into weizen glass.

Pours clouded golden with a towering head that slowly descends to a rocky head, then eventually settles to a lasting cover.

The smell is of banana, mint and hints of toffee.

The taste is banana with a toffee and cherry-like sweetness. Sweetness balanced by wheat crispness. Very smooth, tasty and refreshing.

The feel is light, smooth and refreshingly dry with a very nice texture.

More than a typical banana/clove HW. Unique but clearly in-style. One of the best of style that I've had.

Golden in color, cloudy in clarity, Echter Hefe-Weiss fits the category wonderfully. The white head was on the small side.

The aroma featured powerful citrus and wheat as would be expected in this category.

The esters of banana were the first notes in taste. The wheat/hop finish would be expected. I also enjoyed the honey flavors that came in the middle.

With a puckering tartness, this beer is slightly heavier than I would normally expect. In terms of drinkability, this is excellent example of the style and would work well after a long summer day.

This beer is quite murky and has an orange tinged, light amber color when held up to the light. It is topped by a frothy, initially three-finger thick, pale tan colored head that leaves lacing on the sides of my tulip glass. This has a bright, fruity aroma of bananas, some pear notes and apples as well as a touch of clove phenolics. Actually the aroma really has quite a lot of the fruity esters of the apple / pear variety; this is almost the dominant aromatic note. Touches of grassy grain, crushed pale malt and tart, aromatic wheat notes are noticeable if you dig around for them. Perhaps a hint of herbal hops is all that is noticeable of the hop contribution.

The flavor is fairly light, but does have a certain heft to it that adds some chewiness / viscosity to the brew. Lightly sweet tasting, which accents / is accentuated by an apple and pear like fruitiness. The finish has a nice, spicy clove character to it and as the beer warms up a bit, typical banana flavors become evident. This has a nice tartness to it that makes it quite an appetizing brew; it seems to offset the grain sweetness and play up some of the fruit notes too. A yeast dump yields a softer, perhaps more chewy mouthfeel as well as contributing some bread-like yeast notes. It also seems to soften the fruit impact a bit too.

Much fruitier than your typical Hefe Weizen, but still it is quite tasty and I like the apple / pear notes that are in this beer. This would pair quite well with the traditional Bavarian breakfast of Weisswurst. What I like about this beer is the balance that it strikes between banana, apple/pear, light grain notes, tartness and spicy clove in the finish. This is quite an appetizing beer, even if I am a sucker for Hefe Weizens.

500 mL bottle,

A: Pours a cloudy gold with a medium white head, very good retention, some lace.

S: Wheat malt, lemon, quite fruity and yeasty, banana.

T: Dominated by the wheat flavour with a clear lemony tang. Very light esters, no real yeast flavours, I'm missing those.

M: Light-bodied, crisp carbonation, biting, creamy, nice feel.

O: An OK hefe, the flavours aren't really there, but the overall structure is good.

Pours a dark cloudy golden yellowish orange color with some light burnt orange hues when held to a light source and a two finger frothy white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Minimal lacing.

Citrus aroma with hints of orange and lemon peel as well as some subtle clove spiciness and ripe banana. Hints of bready yeast and subtle hops.

Medium body with a very nice balance of citrus peel, banana, bready yeast and spicy clove. Very quaffable with a lot of lemon flavor and peppery zest with a prominent clove presence.

Best before August 11th, 2007...
Appears a hazy, light gold with a thick white head of foam that slowly fades out. Tons of scattered lacing is left with each passing sip.
Smell is yeasty, tart wheat, bananas, mild cloves, light citrus, and vanilla cream.
Taste mimics the aroma with a light tartness and pungency that reminds me of a vinegar base for sauerbraten, which I'm sure this would go nicely with.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, estery, with pineapple citrus lingering.

(Served in a weizen glass) best before 2010/07
A- The hazy straw yellow body has big bubbles of carbonation sliding up the sides. There is a white creamy head that last but turns pretty rocky.
S- The classic banana and clove aroma is soft with a slight plastic note to the finish.
T- The taste of club soda and carbonic acid is soft and gives way to a soft white bread flavor which finishes dry. As the beer opens up there is more of a butter note in the finish.
M- The light mouthfeel is crisp with no alcohol heat and the creaminess of the head is great.
D- This is a nice drinkable dry hefeweizen with some soft flavors and aromas. The plastic and butter notes are a bit annoying but not horrible.
