500ml bottle poured into a weizen glass
A: Yellow/golden wheat color with a tall three+ finger head that slowly settles; lots of carbonation.
S: Clove and banana.
T: Lots and lots of creamy banana. Probably the most banana I've ever experienced on a beer.
M: Light-bodied and creamy.
O: A solid, refreshing example of the style. Not overly complex but as often as not that's a good thing, nice to sip a simple yet tasty beer. (426 characters)

500ml bottle served in a weizen glass. Best before 2012/11 indicated on the front, right-hand corner of the label. Pours an orange-gold hue with a dense, five inch, bright white head off the pour. There's quite a lot of effervescence happening here as the bubbles rise from the base of the glass to the underside of the cap. Nose is fairly subdued; however, you definitely get the classic clove, banana esters, yeast and wheat aromas that characterize the style, with the yeast and wheat being the most prominent. Taste is somewhat consistent with nose - the banana and clove are definitely in the background. There is a slight bubblegum aftertaste; however, the yeast and wheat dominate the flavor profile and there is also a suggestion of wet cardboard in the mix. Mouthfeel is light in body with a lively carbonation and just a kiss of acidity. Overall, not my favorite German Hefeweizen. Definitely solid, but I can think of three others off the top of my head that I'd go to before revisiting this again in a bottle. I would like to see if this is a different animal on-tap. (1,079 characters)

Best before 2012/09. Poured into a hefe glass.

Appearance. Almost luminous translucent orange in color to peach in color. Pours with 3 fingers of dense creamy head. Quite beautiful.

Smell. Contains the usual banana and clove, but leans more toward the banana side. A very light cinnamon-like spiciness rounds it out.

Taste. This one really hits your palate like a wave. A lot of intense flavors come at you very fast and lead right to a very long lingering finish. The most predominant component of this wave lies somwhere between nuttiness (walnut and almond) and over ripe apple and peach. It really has that taste of baked apple that is just cool enough to eat. Complementing this is some spiciness and cloveiness. The nuttiness really subdues and smooths out everything. The finish, as stated before, is long and lingering with remenants of the apple and some pear flavors. It is also relatively dry.

Mouthfeel. Tight carbonation is not creamy, nor is it prickly. It has well defined, but tight bubbles. Behind that is a fairly thin body.

This one really proved to me how different these beer can really get. The presence of the yeasty flavors in this one are really quite palate punching. (1,201 characters)

Picked this up a few weeks back at the Liquor Outlet Wine Cellars in Boonton. I never tried this before and since I'm a fan of this style in the warmer months, I was eager to give this a go. This had a very typical pour, head, and taste and for anyone who likes a good, cloudy beer that's easy to drink, this would be an excellent choice.

The appearance of this was a deep goldenrod with a cloudy hue and fluffy head that lasted for quite a while. There was quite a bit of sediment at the bottom of the 500 ml bottle that I had to swirl out when I made my way down but it wasn't anything excessive. Lots of least, banana, and clove here but the taste was just a bit heavier than I anticipated. I could see some people taking a piece of fruit to cut this with since this was quite filling but purists would be pleased with just the contents of the bottle.

For a large serving, I couldn't feel the alcohol in this. Had I bought more than one bottle, this would have been perfect to down since this isn't something to chug or let warm up too much. No bubble gum sweetness here and just a hint of creaminess was all that was needed to liven this up. I will probably have this again soon and anyone who's looking for a simply and enjoyable beer for the warmer weather months will be pleasantly surprised by this offering. (1,320 characters)

500ml bottle into a weizen glass.

Pours a hazy rusty orange with a huge billowy head.

Smells amazing. Full of orange and lemon with a great yeastiness. Smells fairly tart.

The flavor is orange along with bubblegum and banana and a little bit of clove. A slight citric tartness is present but it doesn't detract at all. Mouthfeel is smooth and slightly drying at the finish making this an excellent thirst quencher.

Overall, an excellent hefe and wonderful on a hot day. (475 characters)

Hazy yellow color, with a fluffy head. Initially I am getting a big sense of the yeasts in the aroma, in that it is almost 'creamy, or yogurt-like...' This isn't really a bad thing if it sounds that way. It's earthy, grainy, and some tartness and sour apple in there as well. Very complex aroma. The taste is a very soft, with a light breadiness, hint of banana, and not very spicy. Ethereal. I really enjoyed this, and would love to get my hands on more. Great spring/summer beverage. (485 characters)

Pouring a beautiful hazy golden orange, this hefe pours a little lighter than the average. But a huge, foamy head lingers for the duration of the glass, leaving behind a nice lace that clings perfectly.

The nose is a little mild with hints of clove, banana, and pepper, while the mouth adds a bit of lemon zest to flavor. Unfortunately, the beer has an odd finish resembling the flavor of stale rice cakes that sort of takes the freshness from the mouth (the beer has an expiration date of 09/12 – six months later than my review).

The beer is crisp and refreshing, and up until the odd finish, a real winner. However, the flavor of rice cakes is off-putting enough to cause lower my overall enjoyment. (706 characters)

Poured from a 500 ml bottle into a pint glass. This pours a hazy yellowish color with a massive white head. The smell is of wheat, yeast eaters, lemon. The feel is medium to light high carbonation. The taste is good, light and crisp, wheat, no real hop presence, lemon, banana. (277 characters)

Reviewed while listening to Queen's greatest hits.

A - Pours a pleasant hazy golden with a big foamy head. Looks like a hefeweizen should. Appears well carbonated, a myriad of bubbles are rising in my glass. "Under Pressure"

S - Smells sweet and wheaty. Very slight banana and yeast aroma.

T - Extremely refreshing. A little on the light side, flavorwise. Not too many typical hefeweizen banana/clove overtones. Still, it's quite tasty. I think I would like their Dunkel. The after taste is reminiscent of my first sniff of the beer's aroma. "Killer Queen"

M - Mouthfeel is pretty light and subtle. Definitely smooth. "Fat Bottomed Girls"

O - I wasn't disappointed... although I was craving some stronger weizen smell/flavor, which leads me to believe I should try their dunkelweizen. This beer is highly drinkable, tasty, and pretty to look at. Can't really note any negatives, other than the fact that I would have like a stronger flavor experience. That doesn't mean this isn't a fine example of a hefeweizen. "Bicycle Song"

This whole beer/Queen synergy reminds me of a song from The Simpsons:

"When I was seventeen, I drank some very good beer
I drank some very good beer I purchased with a fake ID
My name was Brian McGee
I stayed up listening to Queen
When I was seventeen"

Pours a hazy, straw yellow color with a white head. In the aroma, banana and fruity wheatiness. In the taste, wheaty, small banana, and quite watery and muted flavors. A small spice like bite and a medium to lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry remnants of banana. Better nose and color, quite watery and lack of flavor. (326 characters)

Had this beer right before I drank the Dunkel version of it. This one poured out as a hazy golden color with a fluffy white head on top. The smell of the beer gives off the typical banana and clove aromas that a true hefeweizen should. The taste of the beer has the soft flavors of wheat and grains with just a hint of lemon in there. The mouthfeel of the beer was smooth, lightly carbonated and refreshing. Overall it's a pretty good brew. (440 characters)

Bottle poured into weizen glass: freshness date: Feb 2012

A: Looks like a weissbier, thick three finger head

S: Smells like wheat and barley

T: Tastes like a regular pale lager rather than a like a hefeweizen.

M: Feels like a weissbier, it has that moderate mouthfeel

Overall, this is a most forgettable beer. (314 characters)

Appearance: Cloudy, gold color with a big, fluffy head that fades slowly with chunky lacing.

Aroma: Pretty standard, yeasty with some banana over grassy, light malt aroma.

Taste: A little thin on the front with some light wheat malt, then a building of some spiciness which picks-up some chemical taste towards the back end. There's a touch of clove in the finish and then a lingering phenolic taste.

The Rest: A decent German hefe. As I look at the bottle, I noticed that the best before date is 6/11, which may explain some of the off notes. (546 characters)

500 ml bottle poured into a weiss glass.
Best Before End 2011/04, no info.

A - Poured with bottle-swirled yeast, this hefe is a cloudy goldenrod yellow in color and crowned by a relentless white head. A little lace is left covering the glass, but not as much as the typical hefe.

S - The pungent aroma offers lots of earthy clay aroma with mild white pepper and balanced clove. The aromatic banana livens it all up, bringing the esters full-circle. Soft wheat stays in the back.

T - A little lighter in flavor than anticipated, this hefe is certainly yeasty and potent with esters of earth, clove, and banana, but lacking a nice light malt backbone. Soft wheat is there though.

M - Light-bodied and soft in feel with a well-carbonated but non-intrusive spritzy finish. Pretty clean and lightly dry finishing.

O - Solid across the board, this hefe isn't stand-out amongst the sea of great German ones, but it's certainly drinkable and refreshing on a warm day! (964 characters)

500 mL bottle,

A: Pours a cloudy gold with a medium white head, very good retention, some lace.

S: Wheat malt, lemon, quite fruity and yeasty, banana.

T: Dominated by the wheat flavour with a clear lemony tang. Very light esters, no real yeast flavours, I'm missing those.

M: Light-bodied, crisp carbonation, biting, creamy, nice feel.

O: An OK hefe, the flavours aren't really there, but the overall structure is good. (424 characters)

Pours a hazy golden on a weiss glass. 2 inch creamy head that faded quickly into a tiny lacing.
Sweet cloves on the nose, citrus fruit, a bit medicinal too.
Some tartness on the tongue, chewy mouthfeel, a bit of banana and cloves again.
Hint of hops, way back there.
Very smooth, very drinkable.
Overall a decent Weiss. (320 characters)

500 ml bottle poured into an imperial pint glass.

Apearance: The beer right off the bat poured a crazy 2-3 finger head. Unbeliavable head folks. Golden yellow straw color with signs of a lot of carbonation running up the side of the glass.

Smell: The smell of sweet malts, cloves, apples, and bananas like a true hefe should smell.

Taste: Everything in the smell, but nicely blended amongst all the flavors.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, medium amount of carbonation, light bodied, and easy to drink.

Overall: This is a great tasting and enjoyable hefe-weiss beer. Will be enjoying and ordering more in the future. (608 characters)

Poured on tap into an official Julius Echter wheat ale glass at Laschet's Inn in Chicago.

A stupid off white creamy head, stuck with stupid retention that will not budge. Shape of glass pulls of great lemon hues of yellow to dull orange and brown throughout the glass. Just sick looking.

Nose is a very light clove, even some mild char, not so much fruity with a dense wheat.

Taste is a dense thick cream and sweet sugar hints of clove and wheat. Taste on the palate matches creamy feeling with not much carbonation.

Overall a great solid Hefeweizen on tap with a glass that really showcases off the beer. (609 characters)

I poured this beer into a large Wheat Beer glass and the resulting head was enormous raising almost 3 fingers high above the rim of the glass and as thick as shaving cream, But my excitement soon ended with my first sip because it was flat and tasteless, I thought I may have gotten a bad one so I opened two more and both were the same both in appearance and taste. (366 characters)

First beer of the night at Porter Cafe in WR. Expertly poured by my server into a Julius Echter hefe glass. Huge white head atop a creamed corn colored body. A very nice looking glass of beer to behold. The aroma was a nice combination of banana and bubble gum. Taste hit on all cylinders as to what a German hefe should be. Bread, fruit, and cloves were all present in the flavor. Mouthfeel was nice and smooth. A great beer to enjoy, with no real faults. A tasty example of the German style. Drinking it from the cool glass was an added bonus. (545 characters)

.5L, purchased stateside, best before end of January 2012.

Pours a very light and cloudy straw orange with the requisitely fluffy Hefeweizen head. Nice lacing and retention.

Aroma is tart at first, with some faint banana in the back. Not at its freshest.

Flavor is pretty good, if slightly watered-down tasting. Bready and lightly banana-like, with a pretty dry finish. Yeasty, but not heavy. Definitely on the lighter side for the style, which is fine. The mouthfeel is excellent: fluffy and effervescent.

A good, not great, Hefeweizen. (541 characters)

Pours a massive 4" all white head of velvety foam which lasted a long long time. Hazy naples yellow color body. Smells of spice and yeast. Taste is more spice including white pepper plus even a hint of smokiness. Medium length finish. A step up from many of the Hefes out there. (278 characters)

I poured from a bottle into a weizen glass.

A: The head was thick and hearty. It had a hazy golden color.

S: There was not much of a nose, a little grassy and faint citrus scents.

T: There were banana notes with hints of apricot or apple, which were the prominent flavors though no one flavor was overpowering, it was a smooth drink.

M: Very effervescent and refreshing.

Overall: This is an easy to drink beer refreshing, not overly hoppy or malty well balanced and good example of a hefe with the banana notes, and thick head. This is a regular beer in our stock. (569 characters)

Poured into a pint glass...

Appearance-Maybe the best head I've ever since on a Hefeweizen. Considering many hefeweizens bodys look similar this is getting a 5. Frothy 3 Finger head that I'm enjoying just sit there and watching the bubbles slowly pop. Body is dark orange, hazy as hell.

Smell-Banana, Orange, Lemon. A tropical drink. I decent clove and wheat as well.

Taste-Very sweet, and lots of carbonation. Banana and Clove are there along with some orange and some light funk.

Mouthfeel-Carbonation is rather prickly and a little bit too much. Still pretty refreshing and drinkable.

Overall-Another pretty good Hefe, the appearance of this really turned me on. Another reasonably imported Hefeweizen that I can get at my local liquor store. (752 characters)

Poured from a bottle into a Weihenstephaner Weizen glass.

Large, 3-finger fluffy head dissipates in an average amount of time leaving a thin ring of sustained head like a crown. This beer has a classic golden hue while sitting in the shade.

Can pick out banana and yeast in the nose

Tastes like it smells. You can taste banana, yeast, and some slight citrus maybe orange. Cloves and spice are not overly present here. Really easy drinking.

The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. There's some light initial carbonation, but mostly a flat smooth feeling that coats the mouth with lingering remnants of a bready feeling.

I could drink 3 of these in quick succession and keep going. A very solid Bavarian Hefewiezen. (715 characters)
