*My review from Yelp*

Four stars from me -- five for the fact that they had a free beer tasting when I was in (no idea how often that happes), but then three for the beer prices.

Walked in here on a Saturday before a Twins/Tigers game and they were surprisingly packed. Basically, uncomfortably packed.... there was very little room to move around. The building itself looked pretty nice and there was quite a lot of beer to be bought. The workers are really helpful and all of that good stuff, but the prices of singles at Four Firkins are bumped a little too unnecessarily high for my liking. Still, if you're looking for a specific made-in-Minnesota or shipped-to-Minnesota beer, your best chance of finding it is probably here. (733 characters)

The staff is very knowledgeable about beer and they go out of their way to handle the beer well. They have a steady turnover of product. I find fewer beers past their best by date here than anywhere else in the Twin Cities. Unlike some retailers, they avoid stocking antique beer. (282 characters)

Nice selection. Small place. Beers are overpriced but staff is knowledgable. I don't shop here often as there are far better options in Minneapolis. Kind of a newbies bottle shop. Probably wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. (230 characters)

They pack a ton of great beer into a small space. I love the look of it - the woodwork is beautiful. Staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. The selection is really great here, with a great variety of midwest/MN beers along with some nice imports. I will definitely go back! (276 characters)

Reviewed this spot a few years ago, now that they've moved into a new location it's only gotten better! They feature really good tasting events, the staff is the most helpful that I've found anywhere. I travel to Minneapolis once or twice a year (from Pennsylvania) and I always make a point to stop in.
BTW, if you make the drive, swing on over to Steel Toe Brewing at the same time for a quick pint and/or a growler fill. It makes for a lovely beer day double banger! (469 characters)

Man, I wish there were more stores like this in my neck of the woods. They were extremely knowledgable and most importantly, EVERY beer was available as a single! They had an incredible selection of beers across the world! Sure, it's a bit spendy, but I could live in this place :) (281 characters)

Outstanding service
I can't say enough about the staff at Four Firkins. I work overseas and often place my orders online & pick them up when I get back to MN. I have sent staff member, Bryan many emails and tasked him with finding/ordering several different beers. Each time Bryan gets back with me quickly letting me know he tracked down my request and has the beer standing by for pick up.

In times of automated email & phone service, it is very refreshing to receive the type of service that Four Firkins provides both online and in person. Alvey & his staff truly understand the concept of providing quality customer service!! First rate store!!

PS: Hope you tracked down the jerk that stole the decorative store front beer barrel!!! (739 characters)

What a great spot! A true treat for me visiting from Vancouver, BC. I was hoping to stock up on beers locally available and I was certainly not disappointed. Walked away with Surly, Steel Toe, Mankato, Bells, Founders and so much more. The wall of singles was fantastic as I was even able to find my wife some treats she'd enjoy as well. What a place! (351 characters)

Was in town for a conference and stopped out of curiosity...plus I needed to pick up some Surly. The place was set up great with all beers divided by type. There is a large cooler area with plenty of good brews chillin'. The thing I appreciated most is that this place had more craft beers and microbrews than anywhere else I have ever been. I prefer this to a large number of import beers. The prices were on par with every other specialty beer place I have been in. I didn't interact with the staff much but they were friendly and carried my purchase out to the car. I would go back here in a heartbeat! (605 characters)

The first and only exclusively craft beer store in Minnesota. They have all the outside light blocked out, and keep the store at a proper temperature for the beer. They also have a good amount of the IPA's in the fridge. They have a nice little bar where they tap casks/firkins for tastings.

The beer is top notch here, they carry lots of great stuff, it is easy to spend a lot of time wandering the MASSIVE singles wall, or combing through all the bombers and 750s. You are always guaranteed to find something good.

The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, they are also incredibly approachable and will let you know about what is new or coming out. They also remember what you have bought and are quick to make recommendations accordingly.

Don't mind the naysayers, this place is top notch establishment run by great people. (827 characters)

I stopped in while visiting on business looking for Surly products and some other locals I can't get in Chicago. I was immediately greeted and asked if I needed help. I was able to get Furious and Surly Fest. I asked for recommendations and was pointed to Steel Toe Size 7, which turned out to be a great pick.

While I was looking over the other 6 packs wondering what to try, the employee suggested a mix a six. He asked me what I liked and helped me make selections from breweries I don't have access to. He was great. I wish I would have gotten his name so I could mention him here.

Nice store that I will visit again when I'm in town. (641 characters)

Another stop during my family visit time and I came away impressed. Firstly, there's some dedication here to the collection of labels and artifacts of beer's place in the past. It's a nice feature to kill some time in between choosing your quaff to look at these things rather than, say, Skinny Margarita displays with Skeletor.

Wood all around. Great collection of bottles once head on the rim of the island where checkout is located. Shelving is easy to browse and four to five coolers fill one side of the store. All the local brews are represented well. Was only place I could mix a Surly six pack which is nice for the out of towner.

The selection isn't over the top and won't intimidate you but it felt like they did a great job of finding the quality brands needed to fill out a store that reflects their appreciation for the art. (840 characters)

Very nice place, tucked away in a strip mall somewhat next to a Target and about 10 minutes from downtown Minny. The interior is woody and smells nice, the crowd is friendly as can be, and the beers are grouped together by style, instead of brand.

This last feature deserves commentary: it rocks. Why? Because more often than not, I'll be in the mood for a certain style of beer, not a certain brand. I don't think "gee I'd like some Rogue today," so much as I feel in the mood for an IPA or a porter. On top of this, more and more brewers have been getting cute with their beer styles, either refusing to list them on the bottle/can or else giving them some asinine name ("spunk lager" or "old timey ale"). I don't care for mysteries, especially when I'm shelling over 10+ bucks a sixer.

Local beers came in single servings, they had a very wide variety of affordable local bombers, and a decent Belgian selection. Overall, the selection wasn't world class spectacular, but it was plenty wide. The staff all knew their businesses, too. The only reason I say this place is "a bit pricey" is because that's how nearly every single beer store is nowadays, since things are so goddamn gentrified. (1,196 characters)

Stopped in on my way back to Denver earlier this week. Wow. They say Colorado is the Napa Valley of Beer, but we don't have a store like this. People in the Twin Cities are fortunate to have a store that takes such pride in craft beers. The low lighting was especially appreciated and the selection of warm beers on the shelf was a pleasant surprise. I "import" a lot of beers from Minnesota and the warm beer makes it easier to transport. The prices were on par with everything else I'd seen around the Twin Cities during my stay. Sure, most liquor stores can put something on sale and beat out other stores with volume. But what struck me about the Four Firkins is that as a niche retailer they can jack up prices, but choose not to. I can tell these guys have a commitment to competitiveness and that's as refreshing as good hefeweizen. They even carried my beer out to my car for me. I'll be stopping here every time I'm back in the MSP for sure. (950 characters)

I realized it was only a mile from my work and then one of my bosses described as Disneyland for beer lovers. When I walked in the store I could see why. Great selection refridgerated and dry selection. They have the build your own 6 pack which is pretty common but a great supply of 750ML and pints bottles. Some great small micro beers from Minnesota as well as great selection from around the country and world. Bring a credit card because with all the eye candy you drop 3 digits but get some great selections. (514 characters)

Stopped at the Four Firkins while in Minneapolis for work, and was looking for a good place to score some local beers. The store itself was easy to find and get to, and not very far from downtown.

The interior of the store is styled like a pub, with all of the beers on display and easy to find. Some beers are out on shelves and some are in the cooler, so be sure to check both. I stocked up on quite a bit of Surly, and some selections from lesser-known Minnesota breweries.

The service was good, and the staff seemed to be knowledgeable about the beers they carry, and made some good recommendations.

The best part though, were the prices. While the price of beer in Michigan has been increasing steadily, the prices in Minnesota are very reasonable.

From my research, the Four Firkins came up as the best beer store in Minneapolis, and my experience backs that up. A must-stop if you're in town. (925 characters)

The best beer store I have ever been in. The service is exceptional.and friendly, they do tastings a few nights a week, not pretentious or snobby at all, and they almost gave me a discount because I have excellent taste. Events put icing on the cake. I met Garrett Oliver. Selection is good, but you have to get there quick for in-demand beers because they go fast. The ambience is amazing, I would live there if Alvey would let me. A little expensive on some items but average on others. THE world class beer store. (516 characters)

Overall, i love the Firkins. What they do in the community, the variety they offer, the e-mail newsletters, etc.

I've shopped here half a dozen times and have always walked out with something however the problem in the past has been variety - of which, they partially solved by moving to a new larger location off of Hwy 100 in SLP. My issue with the new location IMO carries too many belgians. I'm a big fan of the style however devoting nearly a 1/3 of the store to one particular style seems like overkill a bit. I also dont look to drink belgians in the winter time here, so that section of the store i tend to ignore for half the year. They do have a nice selection of coolers, i think 5 or 6 total and offer a great BYO6P setup. I was also very happy and pleased to see that local Minneapolis area breweries are giving the Four Firkins first choice at their beers. I found all of the Steel Toe bombers at Four Firkins last time i was in, which was great. I'm on their newsletter and really like that they inform the community about new releases and limited quantity brews that they obtain.

I'll always stop in if i'm driving by or in the area (to browse) but i'm not sure i would drive from my house to this location unless it was for something special that was in stock that they could get from a distributor that another store closer to me could not.

I think the pricing is also a tad high compared to others. (1,421 characters)

My favorite place to shop for beer. I cannot go there and not get something and I find myself stopping by 4 to 5 times a week! The staff is very friendly and I believe they've even started to recognize me when they come in.

Everyone that works here knows a lot about beer, but they aren't snobs about it to people that don't know anything about beer, it's great!

The selection is by far the best in the state (at least from the places I have been to). When I first started getting into craft beers I used to go to First Grand Ave Liquors on Grand Avenue in Saint Paul. I'm not a fan of the staff there, but I'll save that for another review. From here I started shopping more at Ale Jail which recently added beer to there store in the last year or two I think...Great place also, but once again I'll save it for a different review.

The Four Firkins just has it all, with their new store, I give them 5 stars without hesitation! Thanks for supplying us with such great beer to share with others! (999 characters)

Stopped by the Four Firkins before I flew out of Minneapolis to load my suitcase with some goodies to take back to the East Coast. The place isn't very large but they cram a ton of good beer in there. The owner and staff are real cool, friendly, very knowledgeable, and not pushy at all. The beer is laid out in sections by style, with one wall having all singles, and some coolers that have popular beers and hoppier beers. Picked up a batch of Surly Wet as it arrived about 30 minutes before I got there (lucky me) and the prices are very reasonable. Nothing super exotic as I'm sure the limited/rare beers sell out quite quickly but if you can't find a beer to try in there then you aren't a BA, haha. Definitely a high recommendation in my book. (749 characters)

This place is GREAT. Avery is the man!!! They are so cool and knowledgable and you gotta love a place that offers you a taste of a beer when you first walk in the door. This is a must stop if you are in the twin cities. The store is tiny (until tomorrow, when they move to there new location) but they make use of every inch. They have local micros (Surly) and a large number of imports. They also take pick up orders and allow you to hold beer over the phone with a credit card for pick up. I recommend this place to any friends coming to visit me and flying into the twin cities. (581 characters)

A- Well this is the downside to this place, currently. It doesn't look like much, and once you get inside it is cramped. Between the high selection of beer and virtually no walking space, you walk in fear of knocking stuff over. They are apparently moving to a new location soon, so I will re-review this aspect at that time.
Q- No quality issues. All beer is of high quality and stored well enough.
Ser- Very friendly, without being overbearing. Always helpful to point out new stuff or help you find something.
Sel- Solid selection with a good mix of styles and locations.
Overall a little pricier than Zipp's in town, and, as is now, far far far more cramped, but it's a solid selection and great service. (709 characters)

An excellent and true "craft beer" store. The breadth and depth of what is on the shelf is truly amazing. The staff is very friendly and highly knowledgeable. Seems like tastings are perpetual so this should be kept in mind when having sticker shock. I wish I still lived in the area, I would hit this up more often. Keep an eye on their website, they update with what is new and incoming regularly, and it looks like they are relocating to off HWY 100 (much better location), so maybe the space issue (small size), will be resolved. Would I make this a regular stop, probably not, but when looking for something special or something new you have to go here. (658 characters)

I was a bit surprised at my first visit to this highly acclaimed retailer. My main issue was with the organization. Although there were signs indicating the style I felt the place was messy and hard to find what I was looking for. Seasonals seemed to be wherever they cold find a place for em. And the prices were a bit high as well. I also heard a sales guy say something wasn't available after what they had left and I know it was.

Otherwise, after spending some time, I found some cool stuff that I couldn't find elsewhere. I am looking forward to what they will do with the larger, new spot. I imagine that will relieve the organization issues. (649 characters)

As an out of stater placed into the Minnesota winter for several months due to work, The Four Firkins was one of a few places I could go to keep my boredom at bay as well as feed my thirst for delicious beer.

These guys sell craft and only craft, and they treat their product to lower temperatures and UV filters on the lights, so beer on the shelf stays fresher longer. They are always up to date on what is out, when new beer will hit the shelf, or to give a recommendation if you can't get something you want.

The only drawback is the store size, which they do a great job of maximizing. Keep up the good work guys.
