This brew pours a weak head and leaves little lacing. A ring and island stay throughout. The smell is vinous, and caramel...smells a bit like a barleywine. Suprise...tastes a tiny bit like barleywine. Sweet, plum or raisin, alot of biscuit and a little caramel. Whoa! Where did all the hops go. Weak sauce in the hops department, passable though...flavorful..just not really bitter. Malt is a little too strong and hops a little too...absent. Unbalanced. Mouthfeel is medium, creamy and good though in it's own right. . Drinkability department is lacking. Had to tough my way through this one. Not a horrid beer...but not one I'd soon try again either.

Edit: After letting it warm up just a bit it was better. Spices came out and hop profile was enhanced. Not that bad after all. Still a bit unbalanced.

A: pours a fairly clear copper with a dense white head, excellent lacing.

S: Bright orange peel hop aroma, with some bready caramel malt. Some wheat and Belgian type character.

T: Quick flash of caramel malt character overtaken by floral, citrus and bitter orange peel. Bright and slightly acidic flavor. hop forward brew that leans more toward bittering than aroma. Dry finish.

M: Moderate carbonation, some astringency and light body, a bit thin.

O: Not a bad beer. The bitterness is I the forefront with some floral hop notes. The malt flavor is short lived and is taken over by the hop bitterness. Overall, not bad. but I'd like to see more hop aroma.

No born on date.
Purchased on vacation at Wine Cheese & More at Chincoteague Island, VA.

Golden orange in color with a mounding 3 finger white head that recedes leaving almost snowflake-like lacing.

Pleasantly citric with a sweet malt backbone.

Disappointing. A bit of sweet malt and a hint of citrus, but it's all overshadowed by a harsh, nose scrunching bitterness. I think this first bottle, at least, is past it's prime.

Light to moderate in body with moderate syrup and a slightly harsh, oily burn in the throat,.

When I uncapped the bottle and took my first whiff, I thought uh-oh, this may be a skunk, but the aroma in the glass was much improved. The taste however, confirmed my earlier suspicions. Not a taste I would want to pay for again, but I'll have to give it another chance, and hope for a fresher bottle.
