This one is infected, unfortunately. I can taste the underlying English porter flavors I want, but it's masked by sourness. The nose is similarly off, reminding me more of sour milk than dark ale. I'm willing to try another one at some point, but this was one I poured out.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a very dark brown color. The head is a one finger mocha shade. Retention isn't very good, sadly, but at least it tries to leave some lacing on the glass. Not a lot, though.

S: There's a good chocolate note to the aroma, even more prevalent than a lot of (average) examples of the style. Beneath that is some subtle roast, brown sugar, coffee, and even a faint fruitiness. This has a really nice mocha-esque nose which I really enjoy. If the nose were a little more intense, the nose would be propelled to the stratosphere.

T: This does a good job of bringing the coffee-tinged roast typical of a good porter, but with the added bonus of a subtle yet prevalent chocolate flavor. To a lesser extent, there's a slight fruity tone near the finish. There's a strong mineral component to this beer - which some might mistake for metallic notes, but I don't. These brewers did a good job of giving this a load of chocolate flavor without the ridiculous sweetness (Choklat, I love you to death, but you're still a sugary fucker!)

M: Like most porters, it's thin. I won't go so far as to call it too thin, simply because it's only 5%. The carbonation is prickly and the finish is rather dry, and you know what that means. CHUG CITY. Wait, no, the chocolate flavors are too nice for me to chug this one.

O: I was surprised to see that this has a 90. After drinking it, let's just say I'm not. I'd even say it's top 10 among the style. This has great chocolate flavors, yet the roasted/hoppy bitterness balances it beautifully. A classic example of an under-the-radar gem.

Purchased on vacation at Wine Cheese & More at Chincoteague Island, VA

Almost black with a ruby ring around the base of the glass. A near 3 finger tannish head that receded quickly, but left some thick, clingy lacing.

Aroma of sweet chocolatey caramel with a whiff of metallics.

Even more metallics in the taste. Dark burnt and bitter malt. Only a hint of sweetness.

Full and creamy smooth in body, with a substantial prickle of carbonation. Warming.

This beer was better than the St. George IPA I reviewed last, but apparently it was also past it's prime. Hopefully I will get a chance to try them both again with fresher versions.

Poured into a Florida Beer Co. tapered glass. No freshness date.

A- Pours a 99% opaque black color with a full inch of light brown head that retains very well before eventually becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a mostly full sheet of surface foam. Resilient lacing slowly crawls down the glass.

S- Very chocolate-forward aroma with some coffee and nuttiness. There's also a small note of vanilla.

T- Standard porter flavor of subdued dark roast, some chocolate and a hint of metallic taste. Easy to drink as there's little alcohol to get in the way. Not bad, but not great. Minimal hop bitterness.

M- Once again, standard for a porter if not even a bit thin for the style. Medium carbonation and a fullish body.

O- Not sure why this has such a high BA score since it's pretty much like every other average porter I've had. The only thing that makes it stand out is the aroma.
