Picked this up at Total Wine for under $6.
Served in an Elysian tulip that Harrymel sent me in a trade.
A: Poured a fairly clear, bright orange color with a bit of chill haze and a soft white head that didn't add up to much.
S: Orange mallow creme candy with a good bit of booze. More sugary and hoppy.
T: Extremely boozy and sweet and then some. If this were categorized as an English Barleywine, that would have made a lot of sense. Not much on the hop front at all besides tasting like orange juice somewhat.
M: Nail polish in the booze category, low lacing, but EXTREMELY high in sugar.
O: I think I need to check for diabetes after this one. Not a pleasant experience.

on tap at legends ale house in williamsburg
nothing exciting or telling about the appearance on this one. Nary a head..somewhat soda pop like bubbles race from the bottom and cling to the sides...this glass should be a little cleaner.
the first sniff didn't yield a thing. no smell...but it was served fairly cold
The first sip hit my tastbuds like a shot of vodka. Fusel alcohols and solvent and bathtub gin. I believe they fermented this at about 150 degrees F. Abrasive carbonation that really makes the harsh estery gasoline taste much worse. As it warms the incredibly solventy ester profile tears into your nostrils. It tastes poisonous. This was a chore to put down, but by golly i did it and I didn't have to go to the hospital.

Pours a clear orange-amber with a one finger head into a Dogfish Head goblet. Purchased fresh from the brewery in a 64 ounce growler.
Sweet and only mildly bitter, this has rich fruit notes with some smooth earthiness in the finish. Some roasted flavors and well as a biscuit and bread backbone support the semi-dry finish. Brown sugar and caramel linger. Medium to full-bodied. Almost like a light barleywine. Alcohol is well hidden and overall, this is a well-balanced ale.
An interesting riff on the Imperial Pale Ale category; the brewery actually calls it an Imperial English Ale. I've tried a couple of these (i.e., Imperial Pales as opposed to Imperial IPA) and this particular offering is on the lower end of my expectations but is still quite good. With that said, I think it is a great beverage to drink here in the Tidewater area during the early fall.
I actually tasted this while I was making fresh pumpkin pie (i.e., roasting my own pumpkin for the filling) and it was very good. So I would presume this would play interesting with more savory desserts or even roasted game with root veggies.

A: This poured clear gold with some off-white head.
S: It smelled like pear and wheat bread, with a little banana nut.
T: It tasted like banana nut bread, with pear and creamy wheat, with a little floral hops. It had a dirty bittersweet aftertaste.
M: It was watery with moderate carbonation. Decent body.
D: This was not a good double IPA. It was more like a wheat beer than A Little Sumpin Sumpin. I understand this was supposed to be an English style IPA and therefore more earthy, but come on. There wasn't much appealing to me about the scent or taste, with only a mediocre body. At least the alcohol was well hidden, but I still struggled to drink it. Not recommended.

Says English Style Pale Ale on the bottle, so we'll go with that, even though its 10%abv.
Clear amber with a nice off-white head that is quick to disappear. Slippery lace.
Caramel and biscuity malts all over the place, and some nice fruity esters as well. Some earthy hoppiness as well, but they are quickly overwelmed by the malt.
Again, the caramel and biscuit, almost of a barleywine type quality, but somehow lighter. Some fruitiness, and a nice, snappy bitter finish. The hops are there, with a light grassy, earthy, and lemongrass background note, and help to keep it light.
The mouthfeel is much like you would find in the better DIPAs, on the heavier side of medium, but not syrupy or full bodied at all. Low carbonation, in keeping with the English theme.
If you pick this up and think it will be a DIPA using British malts, hops, and yeast, you will be sorely dissappointed. The hops just aren't there that much. It's more like an English Barleywine made to taste and drink like an ESB. Goes down very easily, is light and refreshing for a beer of its strength, and is very well balanced. A Double Bitter, perhaps? Not bad at all for the price tag, ($5.50 for a bomber) either.
