Draft of Brother Aaron's Quad served in a snifter at the brewpub where it is listed as "11-12%" ABV.
Slightly hazy dark mahogany with a durable tan head. Excellent lacing.

Aroma is fruity but unappealing due to a clear note of apple cider vinegar. Unfortunately, the taste follows. Wild yeast? (yes, according to staff).

Feel: medium-full body; medium carbonation.

O: Disappointing, but if you like wild yeast, you may feel differently.

On tap at the Abbey. Served in a wine glass.

Appearance - Very dark inside, but its a deep reddish brown. One finger of khaki head. Retains a collar for quite a while.

Smell - Very fruity and boozy. Sugary component as well.

Taste - Strange. As expected, it's really sweet up front. Fruity sugars. Nothing very malty here, just sweet and fruity. Then alcohol and some other tangy flavor kicks in. Not what I expected.

Mouthfeel - Very boozy. Medium carbonation and a heavy sluggish drink.

Overall - Didn't finish this. Not an enjoyable quad.

A: thin head with some lacing on a nice amber with golden hue and moly hazy body.

S: light on the nose with fig and dark fruits, mostly strawberry and plum and some yeasty notes.

T: wow very sweet up front with candy, cherry, raisin notes with a tart and tangy finish.

M: medium body and moderate carbonation with a semi dry finish.

Overall: a little too sweet for me but this one follows the genre well.

The beer poured a rich mahogany with a fine tan lace. The aroma was of rich malt with a hint of dark fruits but as a whole subdued. The taste was of dark fruits, toasted malt, and a nice alcohol burn on the end. The feel was light and dry. This was a very nice go at a Quad, it was a very pleasant drink, and if I had not had to get up the next morning I could have enjoyed it until the bar closed at 5am.

a: pours a lovely dark brown with a fair amount of creamy head...

s: a faithful belgian, the yeasts and sweet malts are all in place...

t: malty sweetness and floral backdrop typify this one...

m: very full bodied and bubbly, smooth and refreshing to be sure...

d: this is a solid Quad, the alc. content suits it well and doesn't deter the drinkability at all. I'd drink it more often if only I didn't live so far from/and detest the search for parking on South Beach so much!! Bottle it up and i'll drink alot of it!

salud!

Draft at Abbey on 04/11/2008.

Poured a dark brown color with an average creamy off-white head that mostly lasted and produced fair lacing. Medium to heavy complex yeasty and fruity aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Good complex bittersweet flavor with a medium sweet & sour finish of moderate duration.

Good complex brew

While I really like Belgian-style beers I never know what to expect from the quad syle, and am as often as not disappointed. This is not one of those times. I felt this beer to be a fine example of the style.

Aroma was a bit fruity and more roasty than I would've expected. Flavor was complex, as advertised, with some sour cherry up front followed by some raisin and backed with a lot of roastiness. And if furrow my brow and pretend really hard, I can even conjure up toffee. Mouthfeel was good but unremarkable.

Quite nice. I'd drink this often if this bar was in Milwaukee. Recommended.

I had this at The Abbey in Miami Beach on tap.

I believe this is called "Brother Aaron's Quadruple". Very nice head of foam for such a high ABV, strong smell of Belgian yeast products, very easy to imagine this as coming from Corsendonk or maybe St Bernardus. Very intensely sweet, so much so that it would be difficult to drink too much (saturates the mouth with sugar).

Twelve ounces poured into a wine glass at ideal temps – not too much, not too cold. Light foam in the head, which may be the biggest separation from the monk’s quad. Ruby red hues in the dark belly of the glass. Aroma, cherries and a hint of other dark fruits like plum and maybe currant. Non-tart cherry met with complex malt backbones are the primary tastes. It’s like the boozyness of the 12% elixir is balanced with tart-fruitiness to leave both tartness and alcohol balanced. Very impressive. Mouthfeel & drinkablity are incredibly smooth for this style – could easily drink many of these. Overall, probably one of the best American efforts on a Belgian archetype Three Philosophers, with another yeast and extra cred for being brewed in the swamps of craft beer-distro-in-need South Florida.

After a long day of travel and work my co-worker and I were looking for a good pint to end the day, after consulting the beer forum and beerfly we settled on heading over to the Abbey Brewing Company and man we were not disappointed.
12 oz pour into a wine glass
It was dark and there so very hard to see the beer, but it poured a deep copper, a bit brown, with a thin white head that disappeared quickly

Nose featured a slightly sour belgian fun that balanced out the sugary sweetness incredibly well. Notes of Raisin, brown sugar and coffee.

The taste starts out a stewed dark fruits, Raisins, and plums, then some nutty notes come out with brown sugar, caramel, and toffee, with a nice coffee bitterness on the finish.

Medium bodied with a slightly slick viscous feel. A very dangerously easily drinking beer, this one could knock you on your ass in a second. Enjoy the hell out of it but be careful!

Appearance: Pours a cloudy copper color with a modest head that looks very nice when presented but fails to last and provides no lacing

Smell: Rum-soaked fruit aroma, primarily cherries and golden raisins

Taste: Very fruity, with cherry, golden raisin, apricot and fig tones, all rum-soaked; there is a touch of malty chocolate flavor; the finish falls apart, however, as it is marred by some unpleasant phenols

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with low carbonation; doesn't really have a Belgian feel

Drinkability: Lacks the depth of flavor or the complex mouthfeel that I would expect from the style; hats off for trying

This is a double, and while there are better doubles, it is a great and tasty draft. A spicyness delivered in the brew with high quality ingredients. This tiny brewpub is open in the art deco area of Miami until 5 am and sells a lot of beer. This is a substitute for Maudite, and Raymond the brewmaster has talked with the monks.
