I was in town for the day to visit my mom. We had originally planned on checking out the other place in town, but wanted to get away from the family scene and since this place was close to her house, so we decided to check it out. It is located in a shopping plaza, along with most every other restaurant in this town.

We ate a relatively late lunch and were not famished so we decided on some sushi and appetizers to satisfy our evening food needs. We proceeded to order up some Calamari which was lightly breaded and accompanied by a spicy chili aioli dipping sauce. This was followed by the trio of vegetarian spreads which was comprised of three different kinds of hummus; a regular hummus, a roasted red pepper hummus, and finally a garlic and herb hummus.

We also enjoyed a Spicy tuna roll and Yellow Tail sashimi. The sushi was served with generous portions of pickled ginger and wasabi. I was impressed, as I usually have to ask for extra wasabi anytime I get sushi out.

As for beers, they were having a special on the Green Flash West Coast I.P.A. I enjoyed that along with an Alt from the tap that was German in origin. Sorry I misplaced my notes.

In all they had about a hundred different bottles, and what looked like around ten to fifteen beers on tap. The bar area was quaint with a few wide screen TV's., seating for about twelve, and no bartender in sight. The waitress tried to be helpful, She readily admitted that she did not have great local knowledge about the local stuff. There were enough other beers to keep me occupied, so no loss there.

The atmosphere in this place was okay, not great as the place is huge, and seemed empty for a Wednesday night, but then again it was Wednesday. I tried to imagine what this place would be like on a Friday or Saturday night.

If you find yourself in Gastonia looking for some good beer, I recommend checking it out. It's locally owned and a far cry from the cookie cutter restaurants that seem to be ubiquitous in the area.

This is - hands down - the best place to find beer you've not had before in Gastonia. The draft list is sparse - maybe six taps, usually of good local stuff with an occasional big-time-hard-to-find brew mixed in. The bottle list is pretty spectacular - one of the few spots anywhere near Gastonia that I'm able to constantly find beers I've not tried before. There are some whales on the menu too - and you'll pay for them, but they're available nonetheless. Last time in I drank some Hitachino Nest, for instance.

The food is stunningly good - perhaps my favorite sushi anywhere. There's a sushi dish that's covered in grilled grouper that floors me. Everything I've had there was wonderful.

The vibe is amazing - feels more like NYC than most places in Charlotte.

Check this place out - awesome stuff.

My wife and I are self proclaimed foodies. Only having lived in the area a short while we think that Lotus is hands down the best food around. Its the type of place one would expect to be in downtown Charlotte. It is a bit pricey but when considering the other options around it is well worth it. ($15-$30 for entrees) The beer and wine list are extensive (beer selection one of the largest I have seen at a restaurant) and the food is fresh and much if not all of it is organic, and the portion sizes are generous. There is also a sushi bar, which we have not tried yet. I really believe this place is an oasis for food in Gastonia with a great beer selection.

I visited this place last weekend on three separate occasions while I was in Gastonia for the weekend. My friend and I stopped in on Friday evening for a short visit and to try a couple exotic beers. The bartender was extremely friendly as he could see we came only to explore the selection of beers. He was extremely knowledgeable about the selection and made excellent recommendations.

We stopped by again for the lunch hour on Saturday and again early Saturday evening before we had to leave for other plans. Business was really slow for the Saturday lunch crowd but seemed to be near capacity for dinner on both evenings. We had other dinner plans, plus, the menu is a bit pricey for dinner, (more reasonable for lunch) so our eating experience only consisted of an artichoke dip appetizer and a caesar salad. The artichoke dip was complimentary, given to us at lunch by one of the owners of Lotus. I can say that what little food we had was outstanding.

We also were able to sit and talk extensively about the beers they offered with the co-owner that we met. For all of the exotic beers they had from Africa to Japan and Lebanon and Brazil, etc., he was able to steer us to the exact direction we were looking for in a beer. I highly reccomend this place and will be returning soon on my next visit to the Charlotte area.

Excellent restaurant in Gastonia at the Lowes Foods shopping center.

This is the best restaurant in Gastonia IMO - excellent food that actually draws patrons from Charlotte.

In addition, they have a way above average selection of bottled craft and foreign brews on their menu.

I was recently there and had a 22 oz. bomber of Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye.

Other bottled beers available included i.e.: Stone Cali-belique, Delerium Tremens, several Mikkeller single hop IPAs, Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard, Great Divide Titan IPA, Dieu De Ciel Peche Mortel, Gulden Draak, Westmalle Tripel, Racer 5, etc.

The food is the real draw at this place - but the fact that they also have a really good selection of quality beers (including some hard to find ones) is a huge bonus...
