I usually make it to 1702 when I was in town for spring training. There isn't a ton of top end beer places in the desert, but this does stick out as an oasis of high quality suds. Anyway, the selection is always quite impressive. You can see that on their website. They seem to do a good job rotating the selection as well as keeping them tapped.
The food is quite good. The taste is average, but the portion size is gigantic. The calzone I got here was as long as my forearm, and as thick as my calf. They did go a bit overboard with the ricotta cheese, and a bit underboard with the fillings, but it was still good.
Where they have problems can be service. Sometimes you get someone who gives a crap about you, but often times you can be ignored. It should never take 15 minutes before you are greeted after sitting down. plus, once I had a beer half done almost taken away by some grumpy old guy who was muttered some stuff. he seemed friendly with the 4 or 5 employees/regulars who were there, but he seemed to hate us, To be honest, i actually felt unwelcome here. It was an odd feeling. Oh well, I like the food, and love the beer, so I guess I can put up with it.

Despite a huge number of craft brew specialty bars opening recently, this is still handily the best place to sample brew in Tucson. 40+ constantly rotating taps and not a macrobrew among them means there's always plenty you want to sample. Treat the process and staff right and they are generous with samples. I really like that they offer 5 oz pours for nearly the same price per ounce, and hope that never changes, as there's maybe no better way to drink beer than through rotations of a couple complementary brews at a time. Keep the good stuff going Austin and crew

Where did this gem come from?
In Tucson for a business trip, and got in late. Not much open beer wise...but POI said check out 1702...very good BA rating, and might be open. Lots of taps, some house beers and supposedly spot on pizzas.
Got there about 5 minutes before close, place full/everyone having fun...but last call had already sounded...depressed.
But very nice bar lady spoke with manager...and he comes over and makes it seem like they just opened. Outstanding! Grabbed a glass of their Imp IPA, and a solid taste of their Imp Red. Both great. Then ordered their Hop Bread ( based on BA reviews). Didn't order their pizza...but aroma was amazing coming out of kitchen.
Lots of great conversation; learning about their beers, aims...and beer store. Beer store?
Well, since no one was pushing me out the door...grabbed a full pint of the Imp Red.
So to say the least...really good people matched up with really good beer and really good food.
Came back next afternoon and checked out beer store...OMG again. Relatively small, but....
Oracle, Hop Slam, 4 different years of Odell Woodcut, Mirror Mirror, great western breweries as well as serious Belgium...and on and on. Just a diamond. Again great people, great conversation.
Been to Tucson a number of times and kinda know the breweries, bars and stores I like...
but after this trip 1702 will now be my first stop... for beer, food, and a few bottles for the suitcase home.
Congrats to the 1702 team...they are what beer places are supposed to be!
Can not recommend enough.
