This is one of the best porters I have ever consumed. It simply was a delight to my lips. This beer had everything you could want in a porter, dark, caramel, roasted citrusy, slighlty chewy and highly drinkable.
It was a medium bodied slightly viscous beer with a citrusy and chocolate aroma. Poured a nice deep black color with a nice toffee colored head. Adequately carbonated.
Search out this beer. It is excellent.

Served on-tap at the brewpub in Kill Devil Hills, NC.
A: The porter is a dark brown color, a glass of cola with a short tan head. Ample carbonation keeps the head alive for the first half of the beer.
S: The nose is equal doses of sweet chocolate malt and thick cascade hops. The citrus is pleasant, even overpowering at times.
T: Delicious! This beer nails the fine line between sweet malts and big, citrusy hops. The porter features lots of chocolate and dark malts. The result is sweet not burnt and bitter. That sweetness sets the stage for a barnburner of a hop profile. Thick, luscious hops, citrusy with an orange peel aftertaste, coat the tastebuds with excellent bitterness. The finish brings back both the dark malts and the citrus hops for a pleasant encore.
M: The ale is big and bad, a real treat to sip on. The vibrant hops outshine the porter at times.
D: This beer is outstanding. My last visit to OBBS was not so hot and the beers were mediocre but this one works on all levels. OBBS, based on this beer alone, is back, at least for me.

Thanks to akorsak for sharing this one with me and a tight group of Central PA BA's..
A-Clear ruby tinted brown with a medium tan head that reduced to a thin ring.
S-Chocolate roast wth light hints of nuttiness and a bit of coffee.
T-Chocolate roastiness predominates with the support of sweet nuts and a hint of licorice in the finish.
M-Medium bodied with a pleasant bitter aftertaste and a dry finish.
D-Nice solid, full flavoured brew. A nice effort and one that I would enjoy again if available.

4 years since someone reviewed this? Yikes. On tap at the brewing station. The brew appears dark brown with a mocha head. Strings and patches of lace stick to the glass. Lighter brown clarity is seen around the edges.
The smell is roasted coffee and chocolate. This is pleasantly roasty with a fresh grain and oat-like inclusion. Rock solid aromatics for a porter.
The flavor is bitter chocolate and coffee. It is pleasantly roasty with a mild fruit aftertaste partly from the alcohol esters pushing through and partly feom some hop inclusion. The perceived bitterness is a well rounded mix from the char of the grain and from a touch of herbal hops.
This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. It is very smooth and downright poundable as far as porters go. Awesome example of the style, if this was available to me during the colder months, id gladly accept a growler at a time.

Via growler pour on 9/14/08. Thanks to akorsak for sharing with us!
A - Deep chestnut body with half a finger of creamy light tan head that receded into a thin film and left minimal lacing. Modest amount of carbonation.
S - Aroma combines hints of chocolate, coffee and a nutty maltiness reminiscent of hazelnut. There's also a tiny bit of sourness in the back and a slight earthy hop presence.
T - Predominantly nutty malt character with some chocolate and coffee flavor. Slight tinge of earthy hops in the finish with a slight sour aspect.
M - Pretty full-bodied and robust porter with a thick, creamy texture and minimal carbonation. Finish is mildly bitter with a touch of sourness on the tongue.
D - Solid porter with plenty of flavor and a bit of hops to boot. My first offering from Outer Banks was a pleasant surprise.
