On tap at Love and Regret... did not know it was by Pub Dog. No offense to them. They seem like good people and their pubs are a lot of fun, but the beers just don't do it for me.

Honestly, it was the best Pub Dog beer I've had, but still got blown away by the Stillwater offerings.

Looks, smells, and tastes like a really well excited recipe from a Mr. Beer kit. A thin bodied, rather generic stout with minor yeast off nodes that are blotted out by chocolate nibs.

Poured from a bottle into an Orval glass. Beer is black and has almost no head or lacing. Its clear at the corners, almost a dark brown / light black if that makes sense. Carbonation is low. I think oatmeal stout and I see a big head, nothing here. Strike one.

Aroma is slightly sweet and smokey, almost rauch-like. Smells fine.

Tastes fine, its medium to low in body, some sweetness up front, slight roast in the back. I guess my complaint about this beer is that there isn't the body you'd expect from an oatmeal stout, there isn't a lot of sweet or roast. Where is the black patent malt? Hello....flavor? Its unoffensive but boring.

This beer is part of the Stray Dog series. It was brewed using cacao beans and vanilla nibs.

A: Poured a semi-dark brown, but ends up almost black in the snifter. Tan head receded very quickly. Decent lacing.

S: Dark coffee and oatmeal, but not just oatmeal. Maybe oatmeal cookies. No chocolate to speak of. There is some sourness as well, and a bit of smoke.

T: Starts off with a faint sourness. Towards the middle the coffee comes into play. There is a moment where I can taste the oatmeal cookie, but it moves into the background as the sourness takes over for the end of the sip, and a brief aftertaste.

M: Creamy, with present but not over-powerful carbonation.

D: Pretty good, what with the low alcohol and nice mouthfeel.

Not a bad effort, but nothing to seek out if you're not from around the area. It was doing fairly well for the first few sips, but then that sourness came in. Reminded me of Rugbrod a bit, which I was not a fan of.
