Appearance: Light ruby red color with accents of brown. Thick, creamy head head of about a finger and a half. Sticky random lacing left behind at each level. Low active carbonation while drinking.

Smell: Mild tropical fruit hop tones mesh well with the zinfandel grapes. The soft fruitiness carries into the body as the sweetness from the grapes slowly backs off. Caramel sweetness is picked up for a malt backbone. Pretty simple but inviting.

Taste: Sweet zinfandel grapes jump on the palate right away. Easily transition into easy going tropical fruit tones. Bitterness is extremely low, only really slightly noticed on the back end. Caramel and some nutty tones pop up on the body.

Mouthfeel: Low bitterness, easy fruit tones. Nothing that really challenges that palate but it easy drinking for sure.

Overall: Something that is certainly worth a try from Horny Goat! The zinfandel grapes play along nicely, coming off sweet and easy instead of acidic. Malt backbone is solid. For a twist off cap, I am impressed!

The color is a coppery dark orange/pale red and clear. The head is a full finger of off-white cream with good retention and scattered lacing that's fairly thick.
The aroma is pretty even between malts and hops. Caramel, bread and barley offset tropical fruits, flora and pith with a hint of something sharp in the back.
The flavor really picks up the hops, and it's a pleasant surprise from Horny Goat. It's pithy, leafy and citrusy with a bit more sweet fruits coming in along with the zest, while malts simply balance and add depth. The zin isn't prominent, choosing a more subtle role and contributing just a little dry must and tannins. A little bit of a briny note sits in the finish.
There's a dryness that builds on the tongue, but not harshly, as the medium body sustains itself for the duration. Its combination of soft but creamy carbonation and biting crispness makes for an interesting parallel on the tongue.

12 oz twist-off bottle poured into an imperial pint.
7.1% ABV

A - Heavy carbonation keeps the lumpy and tall off-white head afloat above the fairly clear tarnished amber brew, all the while leaving clusters of clumpy lace plastered on the glass.

S - Sticky hop resin tingles the nasal passages, turning to earth-dusted notes of ripe pineapple chunks and mango balls with undercurrents of lightly toasted amber malt.

T - Wisconzin's combination of hop varietals presents a convoluted flavor profile of slightly earthy resin and pine needle notes with soft tropical fruitiness that dodges being pinpointed but it's quite tasty! Amber malt gives the beer a nice base of gentle toast and caramelly sweetness.

M - Eye-opening, Wisconzin leaves the tongue lingering with a dry, profound bitterness that grabs the taste buds rapidly but remains nicely balanced by a kiss of malt sweetness and tickle of carbonation.

O - Well slap me silly; a Horny Goat beer without any gimmicky branding and, if that weren't enough, it's actually a damn good IPA to boot! Hop forward throughout, Wisconzin pushes the envelope of a conventional IPA into light (in reference to alcohol) double IPA waters with it's big profile and striking bitterness but, it's the overall quality of the recipe that has me wowed. I have no hesitation is saying that I wasn't expecting anything from this Horny Goat offering but I would drink this beer again and again.

A: The beer is relatively clear amber orange in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high beige colored head that died down, leaving just some lacing on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of caramel malts are present in the nose along with notes of tropical fruit hops, the latter of which become a bit stronger as the beer warms up.
T: The taste starts out with a sharp amount of light bitterness and transitions to flavors of caramel malts, sour grapefruit, and tropical fruits. Slight bits of alcohol and peppery spices are also perceptible towards the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied and slightly crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has a lot of different flavors going on, but I didn't find these to really mesh together well. The taste of alcohol is also a little detracting.

The Goat and I go way back, so I am always interested in seeing what he has to offer.

From the bottle: "Carefully crafted famously fun."; "Brewed in [Wisconsin]".

I was pretty aggro about my pour, resulting in wo fingers of dense, tawny head with great retention. Color was a coppery-amber (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity. Nose kind of smelled like hop tea - piney, minty, fresh, very floral. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium and the taste was very pleasantly hoppy. It had a good bit of mintiness to it, but just enough malt to keep it from being over the top. Likewise, the malt did not overshadow the hops, which I have also encountered. It was certainly an AIPA, but it was reserved in its aggressiveness, which is something some hopheads do not like. I thought that it was just about right for a lazy afternoon and given its relatively low cost, it was definitely worthwhile. The finish was semi-dry with the malt keeping the hops from being in your face. Thanks, H. G., for another decent brew!

Pours a clear reddish copper with a finger of head that dissipates pretty quickly, but leaves some lace behind. The nose has a nice hop essence to it, but it clearly also has malty notes as well. The flavor profile is well-balanced. The hop bitterness on the finish blends well with the subtle alcohol essence. This is not a bad single IPA.

As the paradox of American IPA continue to shift, there are traditional brewers who stubbornly latch onto the ways it's always been. But then there are adventurous brewers who gravitate to what it can be. Horny Goat is the later, pushing the taste of tomorrow's IPA with exotic hops for tropical taste to complement the citrus.

The copper ale opens with a bold hop display- leading with red grapefruit and juicy tangerine. Sweetened with the light caramel backdrop of barley malt, the hops seem to take on riper and more vibrant taste.

Over the middle, the ale simply blossoms. Its caramel and honied upstart turns to dry graham cracker and toasted peanut; still in support of the hops that tower above. Its bright citrus taste develops into tropical taste of pineapple, apricot, mango and passionfruit for a medley that's most seen in fruit punch.

As the beer's bitterness grows to dominate the taste, it carries with it the herbaceous character of fresh-cut grass, chive, and sappy pine needle. The sweetness dissolves and allows the tangy citrus and resinous bitter taste to clean the finish with relative ease. Toast and nut hulls outlast much of the taste except for that long-lived bitterness that's quintessential of IPA.
