Recently saw on Horny Goat's Facebook page that they had refined their recipe for this Milk Stout. Figured we were in the change of seasons so I would give it a try.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown. Not as dark as some other stouts but still quite a dark beer. Great (over 1 inch) head that leaves a strong lacing.

Smell: Sweet smells of the coffee and chocolate dominate.

Taste: Light flavor consisting of mild roast malts, coffee notes, and chocolate. All creating a nice balance that is sweet and a little bitter bite to finish.

Mouthfeel: A lighter mouthfeel to this stout.

Overall: A good brew that is worth a try. This makes a great beer for people who are hesitant to transfer to the craft beers.

Pours a jet black color with no carbonation but a nice tan head.
Smell has a nice strong cocoa aroma. A bit of a nice milky sweetness as well.
Taste has a really nice burnt, roasted malt to it. A strong shot of milky chocolate sweetness balances the roasted malts nicely.
A medium body with a little bit of chewiness to it.
Drinkability is nice on this beer. A good balance of flavors makes this beer stand out, but go down easy. Definitely a good beer for a session to sit down and drink a six pack, or more...

This was one of the more drinkable horny goats. You could guzzle these stouts all day. It actually went great with a heavy pizza.

This is a water looking, smelling and tasting stout with a nice roasty flavor. The balance is just right making for an easy drinking experience. I'd like to see where they would go with a double version of this. It's sweet, but not too sweet. Just a bit hoppy. Nice.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a cola color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of coffee, some chocolate. Taste is the same, a bit mild. Coffee up front, a bit of chocolate at the finish. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a pretty good beer.

Pours dark brown with a creamy tan head. Web-like lacing sticks.

The smell is of roasted dark malt, some lactose and chocolate.

The taste is of chocolate, some coffee and a drop of milk. Sweet with a semi-dry, slightly sour finish.

It has a creamy body.

Not as lactic/sour as other examples of the style. It does have a creamy, milk-like texture though.

A - A very clear dark brown, not nearly as one would expect for a milk stout. Color of the head is a mild opaque.

S - Smells of mild roast malts, a touch of lactose, and a nice balance of coffee and chocolate.

T - Not bad it drinks better than your typical light version of Guinness. Roasted malts are a tad subdued making way to sweet sugars and a touch of coffee/chocolate like malts. Slightly enjoyable.

M - Light and kind of watery but more body than I expected for such a poor example of the style.

Overall you could in theory pound these all day but why waste money on a whole case when their are better examples of the style. Still with no off flavors and decent taste this is not a bad milk stout.

Got this from a mixed 12-pack.

Poured a very dark brown almost black color with a tan head. Sweet smell with some chocolate and a little coffee. Flavor is very light, sweet with some malt to it. Chocolate flavor with a bitter finish. Smooth drinking beer. I liked it, but I probably couldn't drink too many of them in an evening.

Appearance: Stacked pours a black color and has some reddish hues to it like a porter normally would look, not a whole lot of light shines through but enough to see the red. It is topped with ½” of tan colored head.
Smell: This beer smells of roasted malts and coffee aromas, tasty smelling beer.
Taste: The taste is a bit disappointing the roasted and coffee flavors don’t pop like I would expect it to but it does have the creaminess that a milk stout should.
Mouthfeel: This is a quite a bit on the thin bodied side and while it is easy to drink the flavor doesn’t hang around long enough to enjoy it.

Pours brown with some amber tones. Poor head and almost no lacing.

Not much smell is present at all... Sweetness, chocolate and malt notes

Sweet malty taste with very little hops. Tastes a bit like caramel and chocolate. Not overly flavourful, but good.

Feels a bit light in the mouth, but it has a nice smooth velvety carbonation.

For some reason it seems quite drinkable. You could bring it to a party and people who don't like good beer would drink it. Only problem is that, for the taste, it should only cost half as much.

Reviewed on July 4, 2012. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a standard pint glass. No date or abv listed on label or on bottle.
Poured a thin reddish brown see through body, looks watered down. Thin head formed and quickly disappeared, no lacing either?! Smelled good; roasty'toasty malts, cocoa, coffee. Tastes thin and watered down, but still has light flavors of coffee and chocolate and a subtle sweetness. Not one I would look for again as there are plenty more Stouts out there that are more flavorful than this one.
