I went here on the reputation of having a good burger and some good beer. We walked in and there was no hostess, so we wandered around in the spacious rooms until a waiter seated us in his section. The beer selection was good, not great. delirium tremens was the highlight, a lot of German beers, and Rouge Dead Guy thrown in as a US micro. The waiter recommended the burger with the dark rye, and it did not let us down. I thought the bread was great but the meat wasn't up to 5 guys. I guess overall if you want a good beer and a decent burger go here.

This is the suburban Glenview Hackney's location. It's in a large old manor-style house with a ton of space for banquets and special events.
The decor is fun because it's wood-paneled with a ton of glass-mirrored beer signs from around the world. The bar area and in fact the whole restaurant have a throwback feel, but in a good way.
The food consists of burgers, fries, grilled cheese, cheese-steaks, etc. but they make some of the best variations on those treats possible. The Hackney burger is among the best hamburgers I've ever had and the grilled cheese is wonderful, too. A gem on the menu you might miss is the "onion brick." Yes, fried onions are popping up on menus everywhere, but this one has a great mix of actual onion slices with a light flavorful batter. Not too heavy, greasy, or overseasoned...just right. I give the food a 5, BUT you have to understand that is in the context of burgers and bar food. The Capital Grille it is not.
What about the beer? They shockingly have a great beer selection. Delerium Tremens, Hofbrau Helles, Stigl Pils, Reissdorf Kolsch, Anchor Steam/Summer, Goose Island Honkers/312, and others are all on tap. There were at least 10 craft and import taps as well as bottles and cans of craft brews and the local macro favorites like Old Style and Schlitz. It's not the kind of place that has 100 taps, but everything they have is good.
They also have green river lime soda for the kids or non-drinkers.
Good food, a shockingly great beer selection, and a fun atmosphere make this a great stop. This is a "must visit" spot for me when in the area.
