After a rather pleasant Vermont weekend, Alewife and I hit the Goose for lunch on the way home on 11NOV13. Perusing the menu, a DIPA caught my eye. Having missed out (not really) on more Heady Topper, I pounced on this new brew. Was a tad pricey at $7.25 for a 16oz snifter, but wtf, eh?

Color was a medium-deep copper, and it was a little hazy. Head was thin and fine, mostly a rim job, but nice lacing was detected. Nose was all hops, but a combo of some sweet apricot and bitter grapefruit. Nicely smooth over the tongue, the body was medium-plus, bordering on being chewy.

Again, some sweetness alit on the palate. There was apricot and tangerine, and then a load of west-coast style bitterness: rindy, pithy, piney citrus lingering long and hard down the hatch. Made me forget not getting any Topper real fast. Had two glasses and wanted a third. The drive home (and Alewife) didn't allow that. A growler for a later date will have to suffice. Prosit!

VT Brewfest

A-Pours a heavier orange color.

S-Powerfully hopped. Switches continuously between coercive hops and tropical hops. Big grapefruit and grass with a unique underlying hoppy aroma. Has some strong fruit hops too.

T-Citrusy and grassy and also fruity. Bitter grapefruit, some more-forgiving tangerine, peaches, grass, an herby element. After the onslaught, a full maltiness sets in and evens it out a bit.

M-Big, resiny. A bit of heat. Medium carbonation.

O-Under the radar. This was a really impressive DIPA. Came out of nowhere for me. Very memorable.

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass. Pours a dark orange red with a two inch off white head with plenty of lace.

Smell is aggressive marijuana, mango, tangerine, pine, and grapefruit.

Taste follows the nose perfect, marijuana and citrus up front and pine and grapefruit in the finish, really well balanced.

Body is large, enough carbonation, not really dry, and very drinkable for such an aggressive DIPA

This is a really special beer. A huge hoppy beer, that makes you crave the next sip. One of my gate way breweries, didn't let me down with this one?
