I visit this place when out of town on the reg. Really close to the Hampton Inn off of 14 Mile.(with shuttle service!)

They always have a great tap list with a few rare beers that are not that easy to find. The service is solid with cute girls, a +, even though they really don't know a lot about the beer list. They have tap take-overs with a local MI brew that always is a plus. The pours on the high abv beers is a little light, but the selection is there, so no real complaints. Lots of Founders, Bells, Shorts, New Holland, and other greats.

The food has never failed me. So many menu items it will make you happy no matter what you like.

I will visit Uptown every time in town!

This bar has a GREAT draft beer selection.

I have had my employee holiday party here two years running and have been impressed by the selection both times.

I found all the beers I sampled served in the Proper glassware, at the correct serving temperature and (most impressive to me) the proper carbonation level.

As far as the atmosphere is concerned it was kind of a bummer. Very hard to park, too loud band, and too many D.B.'s but then again I was there on a Saturday night. It might be better on a weeknight.

Well I can't be sure of the prices all that much cuz It was my work christmas party with an open bar. But I have to say we had an italian buffet that was great, Tv's all around which is great cuz we were there on the first day of NFL playoffs. Also the service was impressive with how busy it was, any time I was out of drink someone was right there to get me another.
I was impressed with their beer menu and surprised to see some of the stuff they had. But either way, 1/4 of the place was room for dancing and live bands, 1/4 was a nice bar, and 1/2 was a nice looking restaurant.

Uptown is my favorite local place to eat and drink. Great food and a great beer selection. They are always rotating their taps!! The music is usually good during the week with jazz, jam, and some talented bands. Weekends usually have cover bands and is crowded. I prefer weekdays. It can get pretty loud if you are near the band, but Uptown is so big, you can usually avoid the loud music if you want. I met Joe last time I was there, and he took us into the walk-in-cooler with all the beer and showed us the short lines from the kegs that are cleaned every week. Gave us some samples. Really cool guy and a great system for the beer. My fiance doesn't like to drink, but she loves their food, cookies and smoothies. I highly recommend checking out Uptown if you are in the area or within 30 miles. Cheers!

Went here on a whim to go grab a beer with my girlfriend and walked into probably one of the best places in SE MI to get something on draught at very reasonable prices. They have a huge selection of MI brews along with other notable beers from around the country/world. We ordered 2 samplers at $6 each- very reasonable considering their options.

Went their on a Tuesday around 5 and sat at the bar. It was a very relaxed atmosphere and there was live music which was nice, especially since it was in the background and you could still hold a conversation and not talk over it.

Their food menu looked good so we ordered the calamari and it tasted great. They have food/drink/beer specials throughout the week and beer dinners featuring different breweries from Stone to Founders almost every month which is very enticing!

Will definitely be returning to try more food and drink more beer.

A_Atmosphere varies.Week days and Sundays its a sports bar attached to a great restaurant. Thursday through Saturday its like a nite club. Lots of douche-bags.

Q_Over thirty beers on tap. Always fresh. Food is just as good. Nice bottle selection.

S_Service is usually prompt and friendly. Weekends get hectic and service suffers.

S_One of the best beer bars in Southeast Michigan.

F_Everything I have had has been outstanding. From salads,to burgers, to seafood its all been great. I have heard of the occasional bad meal but have yet to have one.

V_About 4-5 bucks a beer. Some go as high as seven. Cocktails are pricey but they have awesome happy hours.

Uptown Grille is a large newly renovated restaurant and bar located in Commerce Twp. I [purposely] visited Uptown on a Sunday afternoon so I missed the busy weekend night club scene that everyone talks about. As a result, there were no problems with the service what so ever.

Uptown has one of the best [bar] beer selections in southeast Michigan. They offer approximately 40 different beers on draught as well as 45 beers [including cider and mead] in bottles or cans. The offerings include a strong representation of; Michigan Brewers, Out-of-State U.S. craft brewers, German, Belgian and English, and oh yes, they do have macros as well. I am told that they do rotate their selections including seasonal offerings often.

I did not partake in their food so I can't rate. However, I did look over their extensive menu. I would recommend Uptown Grille to anyone looking for good craft beer. I sure will make a return visit.

Unfortunately I've had the misfortune of only going to Uptown on weekend nights when they are in full club mode. I had to practically yell my beer selections to the waitress and attempting to catch up with my friend who took me there was a chore. I would have scored the atmosphere lower but I have on good authority the experience is much better nearly anytime other then the aforementioned.

I was extremely impressed with the service. Even when the place is jam packed the servers will still chat with you and aren't shy about making recommendations on the many beers they have on tap. They are more than happy to bring you a sample of anything from their extensive selection if you want.

Speaking of the selection, it can be defined in one word, wow. 30 beers on tap that they seem to rotate on a fairly regular basis. Almost everything on tap is a craft brew. Selections from all over the US and a few international brews. I had Flying Dog's Gonzo Imperial Porter served to me in an awesome looking goblet. Bonus points for that.

Overall this place has to be one of if not thee best beer bars in Southeast Michigan. I will certainly be returning there on a regular basis. I just have to remember to come during the day.

Update: I went to Uptown for the 2nd time last night and I was extremely disappointed. It was a Thursday night, the atmosphere was still completely club centric. It took around 20 minutes for me to get my first beer and it was slower than the last time I was there. The first beer I ordered was out, no big deal. So I ordered a Life & Limb instead, which turned out to be a Gonzo Imperial Porter. The guy obviously knew nothing about craft beer, because he tried to sell it to me as the Life & Limb. All beers were served in standard pint glasses this time. No specialized glassware.

If I go back again and the service is more like the first time I will readjust this. I am just completely flabbergasted that the place could be so inconsistent.

The Uptown Grille is a restaurant/bar located in Walled Lake just north east of Novi. On the corner of M5 and Maple Rd you will find the restaurant.

I was over in the Novi area spending the day with mom and I recommended we grab a beer at the Uptown Grille. I had never been to this establishment so I was curious to try it out. I knew they had some craft brews on tap so that got me even more excited.

The atmosphere was pretty dull but that's because I was there at 4PM on a Thursday afternoon. There was a man in business attire sitting next to us drinking vodka on the rocks.

The quality was pretty good. A very nice establishment...clean and well kept. Lots of high def tv's for your viewing pleasure. I watched the Dodgers vs Rockies because the Tigers had a day off.

Service was good as expected. Overall they were slow therefore the bartender was right on top of everything. My beer never got empty before she asked if I needed another round.

Selection was nice. I love how all their taps are nothing but crafts and all the BMC is in bottle. That put a smile on my face. They had Founders, Bell's, Short's, Stone, and many others. They advertise that they "pour Michigan beer" which is a plus in my book.

I didn't try the food because we were planning on getting a pizza on the way home. I had a Short's Soft Parade and a Founders Double Trouble. My mom is not a beer drinker at all although she is slowly getting into "craft beer." It's the BMC she can't stand. She thought my Soft Parade tasted good so she got one. Not to mention she came up to Short's in Bellaire with me so she trusted she would like Short's. My beers were real tasty and I enjoyed them very much.

Value doesn't need to be talked about much. It's a good value. $4 Soft Parade and not much over $5 a pint. Overall a great value.

I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good craft beer. The atmosphere sure was different from my regular bar, Ashley's, but it still worked for me. And like I mentioned before...they leave the BMC'ers out in the cold with bottles! Got to love that!!!

Edit 9/20: Yesterday I called Uptown and asked if they filled growlers. I really didn't think they did but I was wrong. I took my Grizzly Peak growler and they filled it up with DFH 90 Minute IPA for only $17! Surprised to say the least, I'm enjoying it as we speak. I almost got the Gonzo Imperial Porter but I went with the DIPA. Another plus to an already awesome bar.

This is a really excellent stop for some good food and great beer.

On my recent trip here, I was able to have KBS on tap, as well as the Stone Old Guardian aged in wine barrels that is very rare on tap. One of the beer guys actually came out and talked to me about it because I was interested, and he was very knowledgeable and happy to lend more information on their selection.

Tap selection is very good, especially for a place not really advertised as any sort of "beer restaurant." About 25 or so beers on tap, maybe 2/3 Michigan micros and the rest USA craft and Belgians. They have an excellent variety of styles with which you can plan a very tasty pairing session with your food.

My food was very good (a steak pesto pasta, the steak was cooked perfectly), and dessert was great as well.

This is definitely a bit of a hidden gem in the area, be sure to check it out if you are within a decent drive.

This place is wonderful for a beer drinker. The tap selection is by far the best in the area. You can choose from many Michigan micros to Gouden Carolus and Chimay White. The food is consistently good and the waitstaff is attentive and for the most part knowledgeable. If you can get Dave, he is as much of a beer geek as I am. My wife feels the wine selection is good too. As you enter there is a nice selection of beers for carry out. When I was there last they had Goose Island's Matilda and Bells Expedition a in 4-6 packs as well as individual bottles of Stones Smoked Stout and their Vertical. I highly recommend the Uptown Grill.

The beer selection in this place is absolutely unreal. They have 30 beers on tap with about half being Michigan beers. The majority of the taps are beers that you don't find in bottles in an above average, let alone on tap anywhere.

Pricing was very reasonable on the beers. Food selection was good and the service was great.

They have a nice little shop in the front area where they sell several premium beers, many of which are from the tap selection. Pricing on these was actually pretty good, New Holland Dragon's Milk was the same as I've paid anywhere else.

The only negative is that the bar area seems to be overly smokey on busy nights.

This place is great. I have stopped in a few times and love the draft selection.

The atmosphere is great. A winding bar with tons of flat screen tvs above the taps. This is not a beer bar only. Whenever I have stopped in after work it has been hard to find a seat. There are always lots of people smoking and drinking macros in bottles taking up valuable bar space. I wish they didn't carry all of the macro beers.

Service has been great every time I have been here.

The draft selection is unbelievable.

The food is pretty good, not great. But did I mention the draft selection?

Prices are very reasonable.

About time we have a real beer bar in this area. They have the best draft selection within 30 miles. And after many visits I'm impressed with the great rotation and interdiction of different beers. Nice emphasis on Michigan beer. Service is good and beer comes in the proper glasses. The owners always seem to be on hand overseeing the operation. The menu seems to be a bit disjointed. I think they could improve by reducing the huge selection to only the best dishes. I would not mind some more dishes utilizing the draft beer on hand. Also hope they cater the menu a bit more to the older couple and family not as interested in beer because that is the only way they will survive in this area and tough times. I will be a regular. But might even come more if they add the typical chips, guacamole, and salsa appetizer. Can't wait to see what great Michigan beers they rotate in over the winter.

What a great place! This was my first visit and I was very impressed. It's a beautiful building with soaring ceilings. However, they still make this Sports Bar seem both cozy and fun. The beer selection is *amazing,* there aren't too many places that have this many interesting craft brew selections -- from Michigan, the US, and International. 4 Shorts taps -- heaven.

The burgers came out quick, were cooked perfectly to specification, had fresh toppings -- yum! Their beer & mead selection in their store out front was good as were their prices. My only complaint -- needs to be closer to my home! If it was, I'd be there several times a week. As it is, I'll only be able to make it several times a month!

Finally got a chance to spend some quality time at the Uptowne Grille. This place is awesome!!! Its set up as a sports bar with 30 taps of craft and import beers. Where else can you go in Southeast Michigan and find four Short's taps. The place is huge, with high vaulted ceilings and seating for 30 or 40 people at the bar. Eight high definition TV's are mounted above the bar, kinda like Vegas style.

The food is awesome and the prices are reasonable. The Uptown Brown Ale and Cheddar soup is delicious. The menu has everything from steaks, seafood, pasta, burgers and sandwiches. Lots of great choices to ponder.

The wait staff is friendly and not bad to look at either. They know whats on tap and what new beers are on deck. The beer mangaer Joe is a great guy and more than willing to talk about beer. He gave me a personal tour of the keg cooler and showed what other goodies he had. Nice, short, clean and very well organized tap lines. Every line has its own pressure gage and no line is over 10 or 12 feet long. They take pride is serving good, clean, fresh beer.

Its nice to finally have a high caliber beer bar in the area. Also, to have people that are passionate about serving good craft beer. I see many return visits in my future. A must stop when visiting Southeast Michigan!!!

a large newly renovated building. expansive on the inside, with a wine and beer to-go section at the entrance. 30+ taps, with an emphasis on local and american craft beer, but also has a careful selection of imports as well. pleasant waitstaff. an excellent bar, selection is great and i hope it does well.

the knowledge of the bartender wasn't great but she could make reasonable recommendations based on preferences and similarly-colored or similarly-tasting beers, which is always appreciated.

i'll be back, probably often.

I have visited the Uptown Grille a total of five times now. Three times for dinner and twice for the beer selection.

The Uptown Grille represents a chance for my wife and I enjoy good food with good ale. Few and far between in SE Michigan.

The service is very good, the wait staff's knowledge of their offerings is improving with every visit. Good selection of food as previoulsy mentioned.

The beer has been reasonably priced ar $4 per pint (so far). The beer menu hasn't changed since the opening - but I haven't grown tired of it yet. Management seems open to suggestions, I am hoping to see some new beer with the change of seasons.

It opened today and I think I am in Love. I have seen this place develop from an early stage which I think ups my review a little as i have seen what detail has been used in all aspects of the company.

The atmosphere is great. It is very large but seems to be well designed to give it a homely feeling as well.

Quality is top notch everything is done in regards of quality. From a food point the ravioli is freshly made, the fajitas were top notch and the beer battered fish and chips were very true to English style. Deserts were great too. From a beer point of view I do not know a larger selection, it is the closest competition to HopCat for taps.

Service is the weakest part, but it was opening night. I may come back and change this rating up or down. Knowledge was lower than average but this is quite a tap list they have and for 90% of the population it is daunting. The servers I talked too had enough knowledge to point people in the right direction. I gave it a 4 as the staff were extremely friendly and positive about beer even if they do not yet know to sell it.

** 10/1/08 - Rapidly improving service warrants the new rating. Up from 3.5 to 4.5 **

Selection is great. 30 taps of all craft beer (minus Guinness and Stella Artois) plus six special beers hidden in the cooler. Bottle selection is low compared to taps but it was still exceptional overall.

Rarely am I equally excited about food but everything was exceptional. A lot of things are a little upscale for my liking but there are tons of options. A very large menu that anyone should find something they like. (Pizzas, Pastas, Burgers, Steaks, Fish, Fajitas, Salads, sandwiches)

Value of the beer was great, some of the food was pricey but the quality was worth it and was not that much more than I normally would expect.
